Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
After thirteen years living in ashramas, Vaiśeṣika transitioned to married life, wedding Nirakula Devi Dasi, also a disciple of Srila Prabhupada and a serious bhakti yoga practitioner. Together they have developed successful businesses and preside over a bhakti community of over four hundred families in northern California (ISKCON of Silicon Valley).
Vaiśeṣika travels worldwide sharing the knowledge he’s gained from five decades of bhakti yoga practice integrated with his university studies, interactions with people from various cultures, and his calling as an entrepreneur. - Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2024'The Four Questions' by Vaisesika dasa is a remarkable, compact book that summarizes the ancient wisdom of Eastern wisdom texts into four multi-layered questions*** that are extremely relevant to the complex dilemmas and frustrations that face us all in today's life.
The author provides wise, nuanced, and multi-layered answers to these four questions. Interspersed with these answers are sub-questions and answers to those questions, as if anticipating challenges and doubts of readers.
The author is a brilliant scholar of ancient Eastern texts known as 'Vedic texts'. He is well-read and experienced in practical life wisdom as well as life in general. He has a large number of students drawn from all walks of life and nationalities, most of them brilliant, highly-educated professionals who were raised to be sceptical of authority and yet are drawn to fully follow this teacher due to the genuineness, depth, and humility of his character.
He is frequently invited to speak at large corporations, universities, and other institutions globally. He practises these teachings himself, in partnership with his wife of several decades, which lends added impact to his words and writings.
***The four questions that the book answers are:
1) What is my purpose?
2) How may I be of service?
3) What is the lesson?
4) Where am I investing my attention right now?
Taken together, the wise answers provided in this book add to the growing body of literature on emotional intelligence, resilience, and happiness, and are in line with numerous studies done on these topics. Readers from all walks of life will find inspiration in this book, which is deep yet written in simple and direct language.
Highly recommend buying and reading this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2025In a world that often feels overwhelming with its demands and distractions, this book serves as a gentle yet profound guide to finding balance and meaning. The author masterfully bridges ancient Eastern wisdom with the realities of modern Western life, presenting insights in a way that feels both accessible and deeply resonant.
At the heart of the book are four transformative questions. These questions act as a compass, guiding readers to explore their inner world with honesty and clarity. Through this process of self-inquiry, the book invites us to release old patterns of thought and behavior that no longer serve us, clearing the path to a more fulfilling and joyful life.
What I found most powerful is how the author encourages readers to view themselves from a fresh perspective. This shift in awareness isn’t just theoretical; it’s practical and actionable, offering tools to genuinely change how we approach our daily lives.
For anyone feeling a yearning for something deeper—something beyond the material chase—this book is a treasure. It’s a reminder that the answers we seek are within us, waiting to be discovered. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone ready to embark on a journey toward greater self-awareness and happiness.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2025“The Four Questions” is a powerful guide to process your physical and spiritual growth. Before I even started the chapters on the four questions, I took away one thought: “What question are you trying to answer?” It resonated with me immediately as I thought about what is important to me at any moment.
As the author discusses the four questions, he shares ancient wisdom that supports all the important learning: What is my purpose, how can I give service, what lessons have I learned, and how did I invest my time? These questions are your opportunity to reflect, question, and practice daily.
I stepped back and considered the challenges or not-so-good news in my life to see what I could learn from them, as every opportunity is a chance to learn—as the author states, “Our life is our teacher.”
The other question was, “How did I invest my attention?” Everything we do is an investment of our time, effort, and overall well-being. I immediately thought, “How have I used distractions during the day to not be fully present in what I needed to do to support my overall purpose?” The action step is to write down what is important to you and your priorities.
This small book offers a deep understanding that can enhance physical and spiritual well-being. Though simple, these four questions provide clarity to improve your life journey.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2024I didn't know what to expect from this book, but I'm happy I read it. It's a guide to help one understand their purpose, and how you can serve other and learn life lessons. One interesting point in the book, that stood out for me is, "the road to dissatisfaction" and how it's built up and can guarantee disappointment in one's life. The author mentioned how one can reverse dissatisfaction. I like the author references to other similar books. Great read, a game changer.

AvraReviewed in Canada on January 4, 20255.0 out of 5 stars Asking the right questions is bang on!
This book was profound in a very simple way to get the reader to think about their life, their priorities and equipping them with questions for reflection. It emphasized, preparation, habits, and lessons over assuming the role as a victim. I also appreciated the the background and historical context of words which I found to provide me with deeper understanding, appreciation, and meaning of the word (e.g., question = quest). Glossary at the back was a fun read as well. And the focus on asking the right question really resonated with me.
