This book is so weird. The first page has the turkey chained by her ankle. Is that a thing? The illustrations are so odd and unsettling. I am all for vegan books for kids, but this one is a dud.

I wish this book had been available when my own son was small. We need this book and many others like it that counter the prevalent cultural confusion present in most children's' books. In the pages of most childrens' books, kids encounter animals who teach them the alphabet, help them fall asleep at night, and take them on fun adventures while those same young book lovers are wearing leather shoes or eating chicken nuggets. This book is different. Libby is a friend, and the children learn that her safety and happiness are their responsibility - a responsibility they gladly take on. I love a happy ending, and this one is especially gratifying because it means Libby is home and the children who hear this book likely have parents who really see who Libby and all animals truly are.

I don't have small children but I live in a community that has a library and I was so taken by the theme of the book and beautiful illustrations that I decided to purchase and donate to the library. I know of many young couples with children who are vegan and have spoken of the difficulty they sometimes face in trying to find books, games, etc. that speaks to their lifestyle choices so I know that this book will be a welcome addition to our community library. I should say that you don't have to be vegan to want to read this book and enjoy it's theme of love and empathy for all living things.

Very cute, but too simple. Lacks something. But as always I'm glad to add a vegan book to my children's library!

I think this is a lovely little book for young vegans. There aren't enough vegan toddler books around. My daughter is 2.5 years old and enjoys this book, I've found it easy to read to her and for her to understand what's happening.
She looks sad and upset when she sees the turkey chained up but smiles as we get into the book and realizes the turkey is ok.
The pictures could be better but the story is good!

3.0 out of 5 stars ... year old daughter loves this book so I do recommend it and of course I support all things vegan

My 2 year old daughter loves this book so I do recommend it and of course I support all things vegan, but I must say I was quite disappointed with the basic/amateur illustrations... Sometimes scary even (on one page the cows looks like the squeleton of a cow) Anyway, such a shame, it could have been a great book if it had professional illustrations!
