- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2021I have been a long time fan of the Shadowrun world, especially the various novels over the years. This is a superb book. Great plot, well written characters along with some good examples of character growth. All around excellent addition to the Shadowrun world. I will be checking out the author's Urban Fantasy line too.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2024I’m not a gamer or graphic novel reader but I’m loving R.L’s novels in this genre. It’s a great story with cool characters! I think Winterhawk needs his own bigger series!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2015I enjoyed reading the book, but I wasn't able to connect with any of the characters. I can't say that is the author's fault. I think that my concept and perception of metahumans in the Shadowrun Universe doesn't mesh with the author's.
All the elements of a typical Shadowrun RPG adventure are contained within the story. However, these elements are broader and deeper in scope than a typical adventure played as an RPG. The initial plot setup made me interested enough in the story to continue reading. I wanted to see how the story would resolve and the narrative did that successfully.
I would read another of King's books and see some more of how she portrays the Sixth World.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2016An incredible book! The characters were fun, diverse, and worked very well off each other. There was enough humor thrown in, sardonic and otherwise, that had me chuckling aloud several times. I'll even admit that I cried a few times, enough so that I had to stop reading and clear the tears before I could continue reading. The main characters are very well developed and can't wait to read more about them. I'm already on the way to purchasing more of the writer's works and look forward with great pleasure to my reading time for a while. Read it! Do it! Compel the writer to fill my mind with more of this!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2015Okay, I'm a Shadowrun junkie, much like the author of this book, so, I'm always glad to have new Shadowrun fiction to read. I started reading and didn't want to stop. I have to admit, there is a certain predictability to most Shadowrun stories and this one hit a lot of those notes but I have never considered that a weakness in any genre if it can be well done. Detective stories, for example, often have much the same elements in story after story but you read because you like the people you are reading about and you love following along with the adventure. Borrowed Time definitely did all that for me. The runners were interesting, the bad guys had believable and interesting motives, there were a few twists and turns that felt natural for the story and the writer managed to make you feel like you were firmly in the Sixth World.
So, other Shadowrun fans should have fun with this book. If you aren't, know nothing about Shadowrun, you can still get into the story with no idea that there is anything else you need to read. I hope R.L. King gets to write more Shadowrun stories, I will certainly be willing to read more!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2015Need more. I'm only giving it a 4 star because of the lack of a sequel. You put out a sequel, and I'll change it to 5. I was addicted to the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2015Great Shadowrun novel! Very interested in the outback. This wasn't just glorified fan fiction, it had a complex plot and different locales. I liked Shaken (No Job Too Small) slightly better because of the main character but cannot recommend this book and Shaken enough.
