This book was required for one of my Graduate classes. While the book itself is simple enough and doesn't overwhelm the reader, it has horrible grammatical and spelling errors. These kinds of errors are not expected in a Graduate level book. My three stars are entirely for the simple approach to IT investment and the fact that this covers both financial investment models and more complex decision-making models from management science. For such a highly priced book, I was disappointed with the erroneous content.

The book has a lot of good information for IT managers, but for the observant eye, you will find that there are mathematical and typographical errors sporadically throughout the book. Unfortunately, those mathematical and formulaic errors have a domino effect since the author will start with an example and then carry this through the chapter to build up towards other problems, but due to the initial errors, all subsequent calculations will be incorrect. The majority of the book seems fine, but you will find these "goofs" tucked in a few of the chapters waiting for someone to find them like Easter eggs.

I would have put this book down before getting through chapter 1 if it weren't required for a graduate class. While the subject matter seems to be relevant and insightful, the sheer amount of simple grammatical and spelling errors makes it difficult to continue reading. What frightens me even more is that my instructor commented that this second edition is much better in terms of errors. I cannot believe I paid $120 for this book!

I never before put IT and the word investment in the same phrase. This book help from a managerial perspective on how to work with your IT and not just consider IT as an expenditure.

Good book about IT investment techniques

Format: Hardcover

This is a good book if you want to learn about the information investment techniques and ideas. The book talks about the various techniques involved in IT investment like NPV (net present value), benefit/cost analysis etc. I have given a 4 star because many times I felt that many topics are not explained very well. All the discussion questions are not very well defined in the book. It also assumes that you have a fair understanding of IT incestments.

This book in two words: TERRIBLE EDITING. Definitions are not clear, sentences have grammatical errors, and problems at the end of chapters are either poorly worded or relate to tables that are not anywhere near the actual question itself...leaving one wondering what set of data you actually have to work with.
