In a grim apocalyptic future where mankind lives underground, a woman struggles to save her son from dying of mechanical lung failure. After all other options fail, her only hope is to venture to the desolate surface and face the ferocious monsters that drove mankind below.
Four and a half DETERMINED Stars. “The Surface” is a compelling Sci-Fi short film about the future where mankind has fled from the surface of the Earth to dwell underground. In the plot, a desperate mother has to do the unthinkable for her son. The film is driven by a storyline where CGI is not necessary, but there are a few gadgets and some makeup. It features a fabulous, touching, emotional performance by Liz Christensen. It also features very good performances by Aiden Beagley, David Webb, Karli Hall, Meagan Bloxham and Reese Purser. Jarom Cowan is the director of photography. Written and directed by Willem Kampenhout, and produced by Kirsten Anderson. Highly Recommended. Four and a half RESOLUTE Stars. (A Brigham Young University film presentation. Rated PG-13. Color. HD. CC. Time-20:00.)
