Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Had a different brand for our house, but it broke. We had to steal this Good Grips can opener from our camper. This is our second purchase to replace the missing one from our camper.
I was almost sucked into buying a matching colorful can opener, but after reading the reviews, I took a chance on this one. I have been extremely pleased with it, smooth action and ability to easily open Cans. It’s not complicated to use and it works well every time.
This is my second time ordering this can opener. My original one that I bought from a few years ago still works without any problems. I bought this one just to have in my camper. I love this can opener because the handle is really comfortable to hold and I never have a problem opening cans. It is a very good value for the money. And All of the metal parts are made of stainless steel, so there are no parts on it that rust.
Update on February 3, 2021: I STILL ADORE THIS CAN OPENER. But today, I thought I had found a hair in my can of tomatoes (the first one I opened). While I was opening a second can of tomatoes, I noticed that the can opener made a threadlike shaving of metal as it went around the can, and I mistook this for a hair in the first can. I have no idea what happened - the can opener never did this to other cans. It's hard to know what is actually to blame, because the new can opener has worked flawlessly up until these 2 cans of tomatoes. I will continue to test and try to report any further problems. I LOVE THIS CAN OPENER. I hope it is not putting metal in my food. It hasn't rusted after about a week of fairly heavy use. I'm going to investigate the company that packs these cans of tomatoes, because it could be a flaw or inherent weakness in their cans too (since this doesn't happen with any other cans so far).
Original feedback: I really like this can opener. It has nice non-slip grips, and the crank you turn is a nice large size. When you put it onto the edge of the can and try to pierce the can, it pierces very easily. Turning the crank is very easy. The can opener stays on the can and does not try to jump off, and it does not try to shred the paper label on the can. It doesn't mangle the can lid, although you are left with a sharp edge on the lid like is normal for this type of can opener, so be careful when handling the parts of the can where you have cut. I detected no metal shreds from this can opener. The can opener was easy to remove from the can.
This can opener opens much wider than most manual can openers than I have ever seen. It will let you open it so far that the two halves of the can opener form a straight line. This made it so much easier to clean than any other can opener I have used before.
I have not owned it long enough to tell you anything about how rustproof it is. But it works great so far, and I have owned it a week now. I'll try to update my review after more time has passed.
I previously had what I thought was the world's best can opener. It was a Zyliss brand manual can opener that was a dream to use and took little to no effort. It has aged however and, though it had a good 12 to 15 year run, it had recently become very difficult to use. I looked for the same model and the closest I could find was this OXO brand. I thought surely the good reviews had to be exaggerated, but even if only half were true it should still be an okay opener. So, I tried this OXO for the first time today and it is great!! It's even more ergonomic than my previous favorite, it seems very sturdy, and it was really effortless to use. It bites through the cans with a very decisive puncture and a very audible & resounding snap. This thing means business!!! It actually startled me on first use. It was then so easy to turn thanks to the giant comfy knob, and it opened my two cans quite quickly and smoothly and with no effort at all on my part. I'm also impressed by the wonderful finish on this and it looks like it should hold up well against moisture and take a long time to rust, if ever. It's very substantial in its build and seems to be made of quality materials. So happy to have tried this. I think I like it even better than my old one. And it's so easy on my hands!
Our jillion year-old electric can opener finally put up the white flag. We bought a new one. It was the type that doesn't cut the top of the can but it cuts the sides just below the top. It didn't work very well. It left vary sharp edges of the can exposed. (We had it past its return by date so we junked it.) As a stop-gap, we bought this manual opener. It works great. We eventually did give in and buy a second electric opener that removes the top. But, reviewers of it commented that it didn't last very long. We're still waiting for it to fail and while we wait we have the OXO at the ready.
Could be that my previous can opener should not have been put into the dish washer. This one cannot and I will abide. It works great. The first can I opened was tuna for the cats. They were very happy! Ha!
Excelente abrelatas, supero mis expectativas. Corta la tapa sin problemas, no se batalla al girar y es muy facil de usar. Se me hizo un poco caro, pero vale la pena.
This is the favourite can opener in our house and the only kind I ever buy now. Points to consider:
1) I have lots of experience with can openers turning rusty after a few months of usage – not this one. It works well for years and is very reliable.
2) Other can openers get yucky grime caught in the gears but not this one. I put it in the dishwasher all the time and it shows no signs of wear. Other can openers have been ruined in the dishwasher – but not this one.
3) It is lightweight while still being strong, and the large knob is easy to turn even for kids. The handles are comfortable to hold. I can tell it is well designed and constructed with quality. It grips the cans tightly and cuts through the metal easily.
4) It even has a bonus bottle opener.
So many things in life can be hard – OXO Good Grips Can Opener, I am glad that you don't have to be one of them.

So many things in life can be hard – OXO Good Grips Can Opener, I am glad that you don't have to be one of them.
I was fed up with cheap, difficult to clean can openers that would warp, lose their cutting edge, and get harder to use over time. If they didn't end up breaking, they'd still be useless.
The OXO Good Grips range is more pricey than the budget alternatives but I find that they are worth it. I have an OXO Good Grips Garlic Press, and it's the best garlic press I've owned. So I took a punt on their tin opener, and I was happy to find that it's worth money.
The build quality is very good. The design, especially it's ability to open beyond 180 degrees, means that they are easy to clean (I hate how difficult the cutting wheels on so many poorly designed can openers are to clean). The OXO is also much easier to use than the last few can openers I've had. I think that's the result of the sturdier, less wobbly build, and the chunkiness of the bit that you turn.
Tin lids are left with a nice, clean cut, free of any jagged edges. Which is fantastic when you need to drain tuna, or a tin of kidney beans.
