More About Weller
Weller Manufacturing Company was founded in 1945 as a family partnership near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Over the years, manufacturers of many types of products – from televisions to washing machines – came to rely on Weller for its quality and reliability. The Weller brand has a long history of innovation. In the 1950's new technology from Weller maintained heat better while lowering energy consumption. Weller continued its innovation for years to come. Legend has it that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak hand-soldered the circuit boards of the very first Apple computers with Weller tools.
Today, most of the manufacturing for Weller happens at one of two locations. Besigheim, Germany and Queretaro, Mexico. Virtually every major manufacturer of consumer electronics equipment uses Weller tools. Go with the brand that has stood the test of time. Happy soldering!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2012Well worth the price tag. The best iron for any electronics board work. No adjustments to worry about. Buy a low cost 700 degree tip and it keeps it at 700 degrees so that the solder tinning doesn't boil away every few seconds. Apply solder and more power is automatically fed into the heating element to maintain solder flow. Better than the TC (thermocouple types) because the tips cost one tenth of the price. You can have 3 or 4 tips for any purpose: 1/16 inch for fine work; 1/8 inch for normal work; etc. System is grounded to protect components from static charges.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2016I bought this to replace the military equivalent version that had a bad power supply. The thing I needed was a Weller that would work with the magnetic tips that I already owned. Perfect fit form and function and I couldn't be any happier with this purchase. I like how the pencil fits perfectly inside the holding spring. The sponge holder is somewhat useless to me as I prefer the brass cleaner and so far I haven't found one that fits well inside the sponge area. It was a little pricier than what I wanted, but in the end, it was well worth it over the cheap Radio Shack irons I used to buy.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2014There were a few options available; this iron was about $10 more than the next model.
Haven't used it much yet but for the projects I have completed it works really well.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2013I spent the money to buy this product thinking it was top of the line equipment. WRONG. It's garbage. I use this for hobby only so it's only used occasionally. It worked for a couple months, then it started to work intermittenly, and now not at all. I don't know what is wrong with it. The replacement pencil unit costs $98. a few more dollars and you can buy the thing over again. Must be the intent. Good luck finding any kind of warranty information. Don't waste your money.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2016i love this iron its reliable gets to temp in about 2-3mins, it has temp controlled tips, allows you to work fast heating components quickly lessening the risk of damaging them or lifting a trace. tips come pre tinned and can last a long time. a major shortcoming of this tool is the lack of a auto-powerdown feature so if you forget to turn it off like i did and notice it the next day you will come back to a ruined tip as the tin will burn off and will oxidize blunting the tip. not a major issue for me as i have extra tips of various sizes but most of the time i just use the one that came with it.i use this and the hakko fr-300 desoldering pump on my bench, for solder i use kester rosin core 66/44 .80mm which has a more stable melting point than the normal 60/40
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2018I've been a Weller fan since high school. The quality of this version isn't as good as my older one. I bought 7. One had a broken strain relief. Two had plug housings(the cord on the iron) that didn't turn until I forced it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2015I bought this iron to replace my original WTCPT that I bought back in 1996. I only replace it because I lost it while moving. It is my favorite soldering iron for the type of work I do. HOWEVER, the current production model is made in Mexico not the USA. This shouldn't really matter I guess, but the silicone cord does feel thinner than my old one. The current stand/holder for the iron is now Aluminum instead of plastic but doesn't attach to the main unit like the older generation. I guess the aluminum is an upgrade, I rarely clipped the two pieces together anyway. As to the function, it is every bit as perfect as the original. It's still the iron I prefer.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2015I have been using the WTCP iron for over 40 years. I used it during my service career in the US Air Force as an Avionics Commt/Nav Tech/Instructor to teach high value soldering techniques. I also used it after I retired to repair business band radios for more than 15 years. The iron was turned on in the morning and stayed on for more than 8 hours and with regular cleaning and lasted for the above mentioned years ans probably still working well after I sold the business. I used a variety of tips and I never burned a tip or heating element. This is the reason why I bought this iron because I am sure of it's quality and workmanship.

Love Weller stations. Have several! The balance of the pencil, to the ultra flexible cord. Makes all the rest in the price region pale by comparison.
