Works for guitar amp foot switch with a little modification

I actually needed this coupler to connect two lengths of guitar amp foot switch cable. I have a Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 which uses 5 Pin DIN connectors. The only problem is the shield on both sides of this coupler are not electrically connected. I added a piece of wire around the coupler and it then works great for my use. It would have been nice to know that the shields are not connected before purchasing.

I have not tried using this coupler for MIDI.

Midi cable was too short, my other one was just as short. With this little gem now I have a long one which can convert back to two short ones when needed.

This female to female MIDI connector works like a charm. Be careful that you don't end up with too much MIDI cable when you connect two cables together. I connected a 10 foot and 15 foot MIDI cable together with this and didn't have any problems. I wouldn't recommend connecting together a run of MIDI cable longer than a total of 30 feet (i.e. two 15 foot cables). Supposedly you can have a maximum run of 50 feet if you have a high quality cable - patching together two 25 foot MIDI cables might cause problems. Remember, MIDI is digital signal so it's not a matter of the signal quality degrading (like analog) - it's a matter of signal strength being impeded by too long a cable run.

Don't Move The Equipment. Extend the Cable

This midi barrel connector solve the problem I had when I moved my equipment. The computer was too far from the keyboard for the interface device (MIO) to reach both the computer and the keyboard Midi Out port. THis little puppy allowed me to create an extended cable, and solved he problem.

It does the job and doesn't ask for much. Feels heavy and sturdy in the hand, it connects securely on both sides.
I use it to connect two 3m long cables together, the MIDI out of an Alesis controller powered by a 6V adapter to the soundcard, so not super long cables but no issues for me.
Cant tell how the increase in impedance might effect connections across longer cables or with weaker USB powered devices.
