This is a really fast drive that holds a large amount of data. When I purchased it I was nervous because many people had talked about it melting down. I am using it as a back-up drive so it is not being read all of the time. I do want to mention that this Hard Drive does get very warm. Much warmer then the main HD that I am using. Caveat Emptor!

I'll tell you a short story about maxtor hard drive. I bouthg a Maxtor L01p200 Internar 7200 RPM 200 Gb Hard DRive. A firts, I was very happy becasue my system reconoized this hard drive. I made three partitions from it. I put different data in each one of the partition. For example, I put music, movies, and photos. The bad story is that its third partition wich one had my photos didn't want to show up. Windows asked me to format the mentioned partition. I had to format and lost all my data. days after, the other two partition were undefinied. I have the hard drive, and I m ready to burn it because i don't have guarantee.

This is the first new internal hard drive that I have ever bought on my own.
I had hit a bit of a snag during installation as a matter of formatting the drive for use.
There were bad sectors, but I was able to repair them with Seagate SeaTools (as Seagate officially acquired Maxtor).
I've had 3 Maxtor drives running on my desktop computers with no problems.
I'm amazed that the L01P200 hard drive complies with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.

I've been buying Maxtors for years now and have had them come through earthquakes in CA, a move half way across the country, and being carted around in two hurricane evacuations. Other than during severe weather, they run 24/7 and are usually retired because of size, not failure. I know nothing of Maxtor's customer support as I've never needed them.

This one is running like a champ, quiet and fast. Seems to run hot but pretty much every computer component these days is putting out a lot of heat. Good ventillation is a definite must.

Was concerned with the specs listing a drive that would not fit my computer. Did some checking and this unit is a standard 3.5 inch wide drive. So bought it. Installation was quick and easy to do. Necessary to point out that one does need to first verify what is in their unit, by using information from Systems / Device. Match the drive you need to the drive interface that is in you unit to avoid problems.

I should have backed up all of my files because my old harddrive has failed, and with 200GB of storage, you won't run out very quickly. Mine came with the ATA card, and it was easy to install.
