Update: The secret to pouring from this is to slow down. I've taken care to pour slowly enough that the liquid surface does not extend beyond the pour spout and have successfully poured without spillage several times now. It's not even all that much slower than I would naturally pour, but just enough to make a difference.

Now that I'm reading many of the reviews for this item (there are too many to read all of them), I'm sort of glad I didn't read them before buying, but also glad to read the information now. I did not know there had been a change in the consumer Pyrex products.

I worked in chemistry labs for decades and Pyrex glassware was standard. We put it through some radical temperature changes and fully expected it to survive. I might have expected the same behavior from this measuring cup.

I bought this so that I could heat 4 cups of milk all at once. I make yogurt and the milk is heated to 180ºF, cooled and then culture is added. Heating the milk in the microwave just worked better for me than stovetop, but I needed a container that I could heat and pour.

What a mess! The first time I poured from this cup, milk went everywhere. I poured safely yesterday until I became overconfident and thought I could just pour the last of the contents swiftly. Oops.

I believe I can learn to make it function, but it shouldn't be this hard.

That said, the numbers and demarcation lines have been holding up with no problem. I've taken the cup containing the heated milk out of the microwave and placed it on cool surfaces without incident. I like being able to measure and heat my milk in a single container. Other than the messy pour, it has performed as expected and made my yogurt better.

Maybe I should just practice with water. As far as I can tell, the key is simply to pour slowly. Once the liquid reaches the area beyond the pour spout it wants to run down the outside of the cup rather than maintain a tidy stream of liquid. The pour spout is narrow and only allows for a small, and hence, slow stream of poured liquid.

I still like it and couldn't find anything that looked like it would work better.

When this is full or near so, you have to pour VERY VERY slowly or liquid runs past the "spout" lips and down the side of the cup. All other PYREX brand units we have work fine, The lip is molded to shallow for the volume of liquid. Come on Pyrex, how many centuries have you been making this design to have such a basic problem.

I must admit that I am not terribly mean to my measuring cups. Pyrex dishes, yes, measuring cups, no. I use them for measuring and sometimes I melt frozen butter in them for cooking/baking. After reading all these reviews about temperature changes cracking people's Pyrex, I was a bit apprehensive about sticking a cup with a frozen stick of butter in the microwave, but I've had no issues. I love that these cups have metric conversion on the other side as I am european and a lot of my recipes are in the mL/L measuring units. I've had my 1 cup and my 2 cup sizes of measuring cups for at least 10 years and just saw that I can get a 4 cup one and it was under 5 dollars! So, I ordered one. It is wonderful quality and looks just like my 10 year old measuring cups. The only thing that startled me is the fact that it is wide and shallow as opposed to the tall shape of the smaller measuring cup sizes. I guess they designed it that way so that it fits on the smaller shelves height wise. However, I find it to be a slight bit annoying as I am always worried that I will spill the contents. It reminds me of carrying a shallow bowl of soup to the table... you have to do it very carefully, no filling and dumping it in the pot with the same ease as the smaller sizes.

This measuring cup is not traditional PYREX.

It turns out that the traditional PYREX that Corning made is not only no longer made by Corning, but that the company that licensed the brand also substituted soda lime glass for the thermally stable borosilicate glass that Corning always used. You can tell them apart by whether the word "pyrex" is lower case (soda lime) or is in upper case "PYREX" (borosilicate). The soda lime glass also has a slight blue or green tinge to it when viewed through the thick part of the glass. Do not subject soda lime glass to temperature differences above 100 degrees C, for instance placing boiling water in the glass and then putting it on ice to cool. It may shatter.
