The reason why the plastic top doesn't fit after you open the can...

This stuff is great, but as other folks have mentioned, they have trouble using the can of dip more than once.

The can comes completely sealed along with a plastic lid that can be snapped on once the can is open. Its sort of like a can of tennis balls. You pop off the plastic lid and then pull back on a ring to open the can for the first time. Then (theoretically) you can use the plastic lid to help keep the contents fresh (unsolidified) for later use as well.

Many folks mentioned that the top doesn't fit tightly. Well, it actually does when you attach it after opening the can for the first time. The problem is that the chemical compounds in the dip (fumes) actually attack the plastic material in the top and cause it to expand quite dramatically. I noticed this because I read these reviews and when I first attached the top, I ran some electrical tape around the edge as an extra seal. I was quite amazed the next day to be actually able to wiggle the top back and forth (even with the electrical tape seal) after it had been exposed to the fumes. So I cleaned out a glass jar and transferred the contents to that and now I have a nice twist off metal lid to protects the dip... Pickle jar, Salsa Jar, etc...

This is either the most ingenious and diabolical choice of materials to virtually guarantee that you'll only get one use of the contents (and then be forced to buy more), or its a complete FAIL in packaging. (Personally, I think its the latter).

Try it yourself - you'll be amazed at how much the lid expands when exposed to the vapors in the can.

Great product, lousy packaging (with an easy fix)...

Expensive Goo

Expensive for what it is. After 3 wrenches, there was not enough depth of material to do more, so I had to brush it on and let gravity do its work. The resulting last few items did not look anywhere close to as professional as the first several! Maybe I need to invent a narrower sleeve to do more than a few wrenches!

Great product, bad container.

The actual rubber dip works great! I use this to dip pliers in and bend delicate metal. It coats it perfectly and is very sturdy. My only problem is the container. It does not seal well, so if I left in this container it would dry up. I poured it into a mason jar and it has worked great! Four months later and it still works great!

Dried up after third use

My lid was not cracked. I got about 3 uses out of this but after a month it turned into a gummy mess and had to toss it out. I guess I should have put it inside the house instead of leaving it in the hot garage?
Even when it was brand new, I found it to be messy and difficult to work with, never was able to get a clean finish, always messy looking

Plasti Dip Multipurpose Rubber Coating

I've used this product before and it holds up great for dipping any tool handle, scissors or anything you want rubber coated. The only problem is use all you plan on using as soon as possible. The original container will not keep it usable for more than a week or so. The manufacturer says their container wasn't designed to store the unused product in, the label says nothing about that. I don't know if an air tight container will keep it any longer other wise a great and long lasting product.

I was wondering if i was wasting my money when I ordered Plasti-dip, but it works well. It is easy and near fool proof. A couple of tips would be to move slow. Dip slow, extract slow. Start with a good clean surface and don't try to push the drying time. Again, be slow; with patience the results are great. Take extra care in sealing your partial can. If air gets to it it will start to harden. I found a bit of grease inside the rim of the plastic lid makes an effective seal and keeps my product ready for long periods.
