- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2010I remember getting an SNES when I was a kid specifically for SF II. It is one of the few games I still enjoy playing now as an adult. Even with SSF IV being released (which I love playing), at times I still like going back to the old-school fighting games for that nostalgic action. If you're like me, then definitely pick up SFAC if you haven't already.
This is one of the few original Xbox games that lives of to the Microsoft promise of backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360. It is fully compatible with the 360; I didn't notice any glitching or slowdown on the SFII games and only minor glitching on SFIII during the SUV bonus stage. Other than that, the gameplay is smooth and clean. The controls are, of course, faithful to the games and very responsive even with the 360 controller.
I like how the SFII games lets you choose the speed and even character styles from all the different SFII releases. I wish they would've done the same for SFIII; making it a mix between the three strikes (I kinda miss the cut scenes from SFIII 1st strike). But regardless of any small detractions, this is still a very worthy release of some of the best classic 2D fighing games ever!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2008It's a good collection to have, it was very smart how they include all the Street Fighter 2 games all in one. I enjoy it a lot brought back some good memory's and best of all Street Fighter 3 Third Strike :) so I'm satisfied.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2005Ok this game is only good if u want to get your A** KICKED.......but u know what even though I gave it one star overall It is still a good game it's just the difficulty levels pisses me off
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2005I wasn't expecting a graphic overhaul or dazzling gameplay, but there's something about this version (Xbox) that just doesn't carry the same fond memories as the Genesis version did. The controls are just this side of flaky, and doesn't lend to that smooth action the Genesis pad carried. Don't buy this unless you are the most hardest of hard core fans.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2009Street Fighter is a series that I once avoided, but have recently opened up to. It's a game that rewards perfection, both mentally and physically. The players who play it are either new or hardcore. If you have patience, it will reward you. The graphics were top-notch in the time it was released. The music is a catchy urban rap. The voices of the characters are still the same iconic voices you've remembered since SF2.
The game offers over 20 characters, from the African dancer Elena to the massive wrestler Hugo. There are many styles of fighting and variations of a style too. Not all characters have returned however. Overall, it's a large line-up, but there is an unbalance of the characters.
The singleplayer affair is typical and expected. You fight your way through a dozen stages and fight a boss at the end. In between levels, there are bonus levels where you break a car or parry balls. The final boss, as usual with Capcom games, is over-the-top and has moves that can take off half of your life. It feels like a cheap way to continue playing.
The heart of the game lies in its gameplay. You'll throw moves left and right in order to damage your enemies. Your opponent will do the same. It really depends on how well you can adapt. If your opponent is constantly blocking, you should approach them with blocks. If they are jumping, do an anti-air attack. The gameplay of SF is essentially countering as well as launching moves to dwindle the life of your opponent.
That's great, but the key to this game is not in the singleplayer. You can forget what I just wrote above if you are just going to play it by yourself. The game truly comes out with multiplayer. The AI simply does not learn, nor adapt. The value of this game lies on the possibility that you can play this online or with a friend. And even then, it would be best if the skill level of your opponents were aligned with yours. There is online play, but matches can take minutes to find and lag is to be had.
SF2 and the movie is thrown in there as well. It's a classic to some, but the AI is extremely difficult, even on easy. If you want to take it old-school, this would be the place to start. The balance of the game is still the same, so Sagat is the best and glitches can be performed. I personally did not like the confusing character selection screen that has you choosing which edition of SF2 you want your character to be from. I would have rather had a stream-lined menu that Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix has.
So again, SFAC has the possibility of being a great game, but the two requirements are that you have someone to play it with and that this person is as good as you are. Otherwise, it might be best to invest in a singleplayer game, or a multiplayer game that has a light learning curve.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2009I could not help but buy this when I heard it had a release on Xbox. Yes, it's backwards compatible with the 360 which makes the purchase even sweeter for those of you who like Street Fighter. It comes with SSFII and SFIII: Third Strike.
Not as thrilled for Street Fighter II because I play Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on Xbox live but the big purchase is Street Fighter III: Third Strike.
I definitely recommend it since it's the best Street Fighter game in my opinion if you are looking to get away from Street Fighter IV for a while. Lots of replayability, classic characters, sweet music, and versus/online play. I wish I had found this sooner.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2016I love this game. It combine to great classics, and made appreciate today's graphics and game play.I bought this used and it played like it was new. Plus even though I opted for a slower delivery method to get a Prime deal it still got delivered faster than it should have. I'll be buying from this retailer again in the future.
