-this is the right stator for my 1995 ford f150 (lightning model), need to pull the distributor (mark the pointer position first!), knock out the two roll pins, press the gear and the spacer off with a press (no, don't hammer it), replace stator (you need small sockets or nut drivers), put back together, then set timing (10 degrees advance in my case). easy breezy. unit failure symptoms include: the vehicle won't start, or may cut out intermittently.
My '94 Mustang GT had a crank/no start condition. After verifying that the injectors were not getting a signal and the spark plugs were not getting spark during crank, I ordered the replacement stator. Used a press to remove the distributor gear so I could pull the shaft out of the distributor body and replace the stator. Used a press to reassemble the gear. Car fired right up with replacement stator.
