Getting this grommet in the valve cover would be MUCH easier IF the valve cover were OFF the engine. However, that was not possible due to the time it would have taken to remove, clean and reinstall the valve cover. It took some effort using a flat blade screwdriver to get the grommet into place. Of course, the old grommet had to be removed first, and that meant using a vacuum to remove the small pieces that were created when the grommet came apart.
Maybe someone will invent a tool to remove old and brittle grommets and keep the pieces from getting into the top of the valves. That would necessitate removing the valve cover. The tool could incorporate something like a tiny upside down umbrella.
