NOT AN OEM BATTERY

This is a bait and switch Amazon Partner. The add shows a photo or an OEM Lenovo battery and the text indicates that the battery is a Lenovo Battery. BEWARE, these are not OEM Lenovo replacement batteries!!! They are a third party battery with a look alike Lenovo label. The battery does not contain the Lenovo OEM battery ID chip. Once installed the Lenovo Power Manager will identify this battery as "...the battery installed is not a genuine Lenovo battery..." and the dreaded exclamation triangle will appear ever present in the Power Manager status icon field.

AVOID THIS AMAZON PARTNER. This battery is a bait and switch third party product. NOT OEM. Shame on Amazon for continuing to allow this scammer to sell products based on bait and switch tactics and lies.

Beware - apparently not a 'tier 1' Lenovo battery

(My order was fulfilled by "CRTECH", so this review may not apply to you since many vendors fulfill orders from this page.)

I ordered the battery back in September 2013, and FINALLY have resolved my issues (5 months later!). The first battery took over a month to arrive. From all looks, it was a true Lenovo battery. When I put it in my ThinkPad, it didn't complain about it being an "unsupported" battery, either. However, the Power Manager would not report anything on the battery - it wouldn't show the serial number, # of charges, capacity, nothing! My suspicion is that while it was a true Lenovo battery, it had failed quality tests so it wasn't being sold by Lenovo (and probably should have been destroyed), but CRTECH had gotten it and sold it to me.

I filed a complaint with CRTECH, and they only offered to give me a refund. "No," I said. "I have paid for a Lenovo battery, and that is what I want." When I finally threatened to call Lenovo to have it swapped under the Lenovo 1-year warrantly, CRTECH suddenly became very cooperative. (Hmm.)

Six weeks later, I finally got the second battery. Power Manager reported it was a true Lenovo battery (although it was manufactured in 2011, which wasn't a good sign). I used it for about a month, then noticed that Power Manager was reporting that the "full charge capacity" had dropped by over 20% (and after only 3 charge cycles). At this rate, the battery would be completely dead in 6 months. My suspicion was that a couple of cells had gone bad. Again, I contacted CRTECH, who offered to refund 60% of the price, "since I had used it". (Remember, I'd only had it a month at this point.) I again refused, and again suggested that I could just call Lenovo and have it replaced under the 1-year warranty. Again, CRTECH suddenly became very cooperative, and has refunded me 100% of the purchase price (although I did have to eat $5 for shipping it back to them!).

Bottom line: you get what you pay for. If you expect to get a "fully-functioning" Lenovo-branded battery for 1/3 of the normal price, something is amiss. Don't accept these "bait and switch" companies - hold them accountable!

Works perfect (so far) on Lenovo Thinkpad T500

Purchased T500 in April 2009. The original OEM battery that came with the Lenovo ThinkPad never really charged up to the advertised 5+ hour level. I got no more than about a 4 hour charge level at best. Being a 9-cell battery, the battery charge should have been at 5 hr minimum. (NOTE: I'm talking batter charge levels. Not usage levels. I've got all my power management settings tweaked to run everything at high performance so I wasn't expecting 5 hours of battery life. You can setup different power management profiles and create one that uses lower levels of power consumption when needed.) Of course, slowly but surely, the OEM battery life shrank until I was only getting a measly 2 hr maximum charge level.

Finally, after doing lots of reseach and reading other reviews, I bought this particular replacement battery. Works greats so far. Not getting the "not genuine IBM/Lenovo part" icon message that another reviewer had mentioned. In fact, the laptop boots faster and runs better on battery than it did before. (I used to have to plug in the laptop just so that the boot-up wouldn't take so long.)

While I've only had the new battery for a week, things are running smoothly. If I run into problems, I'll come back and let ya'll know.

Genuine OEM 9 cell battery for T61P

Buying a genuine Lenovo battery at a great price was a bit more complicated than I thought. Whether to buy a genuine battery or a generic third-party battery at a lower price is completely a personal choice. But, I didn't want to see the ugly message from Lenovo battery manager software reminding me that it is not a genuine battery. In addition, I wanted to avoid even the slightest chance of overheat or some other potential problems that might be caused by generic batteries.

Given my preference, I ordered one from an Amazon third-party seller at almost a half the Amazon list price. However, what arrived is a counterfeit product, which looks exactly like the genuine one. But, Lenovo battery manager did not recognize it as a genuine battery and kept showing the irritating message. After my inspection, I found more evidence that confirms my initial suspicion: e.g. inconsistent product numbers among the label, the barcode, and the battery manager software. Its temperature rose rather quickly. So, I returned the product for refund.

Then, I tried another third-party Amazon seller, Origin Micro, at a great price (cheaper than the current posted price) based on positive reviews. Fortunately, I received a genuine Lenovo replacement battery. My T61p uses more power due to a discrete graphic chip than T61, but the new battery can hold up more than 5 hours with both wireless and bluetooth on. This is more than I expected, and I'm happy with its performance. I didn't give five stars because the battery's full capacity seems to deteriorate rather quickly: the full capacity went down to 99% of its original capacity in two weeks. Well, this is not bad at all because my original 6-cell battery lost 50% of its original capacity in 15 months. I assume Lenovo battery was designed that way and expect to buy another one in a year or so. Overall, this is a reasonably good battery for my hard-working T61P.
