Although the regular StowAway containers work well in most cases, sometimes you want finer control over individual compartment sizes, which is where the CDS StowAways come in. First off, I will mention that the price for these on Amazon seems to change often and can vary by quite a bit, with the highest price nearly twice that of the lowest. Therefore, I kept watch and didn't purchase them until the price came down.
I got the 3771 model, which is the thin version. I've found that this model is perfect for unboxed N scale train cars when laid on their side. There are 4 permanently fixed dividers separating the interior into 5 compartments of about 343 mm long x 36 mm wide x 28 mm deep, although the one on the latch side is not as wide in some places due to the latches and handle. Included are 24 straight dividers and 12 angled ones. The slots for the dividers are spaced about 6 mm apart, except at the ends and around the latches and handle, where there are gaps. The ends of the angled dividers are 7 slots apart from each other. Due to the flared edges on the straight dividers, the closest they can be placed is 2 slots apart, producing a smallest possible compartment of about 9 x 36 x 28 mm in the center. However, due to the flared edges, the top opening of that compartment would be about 4 x 36 mm.
One further note: Plano has been releasing redesigned versions of some of their StowAway containers lately with slightly different interior dimensions and divider slot spacing from older versions. The version I received was the newer design and I don't have an older one of the same model for comparison to see if the measurements given above are different.
