Product Description
All ages will enjoy playing Dancing Eggs by HABA! One of HABA's most popular games, this is a winner of the Major Fun! Keeper! Award and the National Parenting Publications NAPPA Honors Award! Caught the dancing egg? Great, now run around the table with the egg under your armpit or between your knees. As soon as an egg drops, the game is over.. and beware of the egg thieves! A boisterous bouncing action game that fosters hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Game includes 9 rubber eggs, 1 wooden egg, an action die, and an egg placement die. Recommended for 2-4 players from ages 5 and up.
CONTENTS
- 1 wooden egg
- 9 bouncing rubber eggs
- 1 red action dice
- 1 ”where to place the egg“ dice
- 1 set of game instructions
Place the box with the 10 eggs on the table. Keep the center of the table clear as the eggs will be bouncing about there.
What symbol appears on the red action dice?
Laying an Egg
You’ve got lots of hen luck. Shout: “cluck, cluck, cluuck!“ and take an egg from the box.
Egg bouncing
Take a rubber egg from the box. Hold it about half a meter above the center of the table and let it drop. The other players try to catch the egg. Whoever catches it first, keeps it. Watch out: The wooden egg can’t be used for this!
Egg Pinching
All players try to catch the red dice as quickly as possible. Whoever catches it, may take an egg from the box.
The Egg Dance
Now things start to move! Everybody stands up and runs around the table as quickly as they can. The player who gets back to their place first gets the egg from the box.
The Big Shout
It’s time to wake up the neighbours! Whoever shouts first ”cock-a-doodle-doo!“ takes an egg from the box. If various players are equally quick, no one gets an egg.
The Big Hush
Look closely: this symbol looks very like the “big shouting “, but not a single sound may be emitted. Whoever shouts here “cock-a-doodledoo“, has to return one of their eggs to the box, only, of course, if they have already got one
Hey, what’s the wooden egg doing in the game?
A precious wooden egg has mingled with the bouncing eggs! It will score two points at the end, while the bouncing eggs only score one point: therefore it’s very popular with egg thieves.
Wild dice rolling!
This game involves a lot of dice rolling and quick reactions. Nevertheless you have to be careful! Whoever lets the dice drop or pushes it from the table has to pick it up by themselves and without help.
Try it: it really is not so easy to stoop to pick up a dice with an egg jammed between your knees or underneath your chin …
WHERE TO PLACE THE EGG?
The eggs collected are not simply placed in front of oneself on the table. Whenever you get an egg you roll the dice which determines “where to place the egg“. The symbol shows where one has to position the egg:
Important
Do you already have an egg in the spot shown on the dice? The player can choose for themselves if they want to jam the second egg in the same or another location.
It is not allowed to stick an egg underneath clothing or use any other means
END OF THE GAME
The game ends as soon as one of the players lets one or more of their positioned eggs drop. The other players score one point for each of their eggs. The wooden egg scores two points. Whoever scores the most points, wins the egg battle.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2013This game is a blast. Get 6 or so 6 year olds together and watch chaos ensue.
TYPE OF GAME:
I would call this something of a dexterity game. Players chase eggs and then do silly things to hold them.
COMPONENTS
As the picture shows, everything comes in an egg carton. There are nine rubber bouncy eggs, one yellow painted wooden egg and two large wooden dice.
GAMEPLAY:
All players stand around a table. The first player takes the red die and rolls it on the table. This will instruct the players to do an action. One side just instructs them to take an egg from the box. Another tells everyone to shout ”cock-a-doodle-doo!“ and whoever does so first gets an egg. Another looks like the shout side but has the beak closed, so anyone who goes ”cock-a-doodle-doo!“ loses an egg.
The other three sides are where the action is. One instructs players to grab for the die. Whoever gets it gets an egg from the box. One tells everyone to run around the table as fast as possible. Whoever gets back to their spot gets an egg. The last is where the name of the game is drawn from. The player drops a rubber egg onto the table and everyone tries to grab it. Whoever catches the egg gets it.
Regardless of how a player gets an egg, they now roll the white die. It will instruct the player where they have to hold the egg. They may need to hold it under their chin, in their armpit, crook of their arm or between their knees, for instance. This, as you can imagine, creates some hilarity as players with several eggs need to run around the table with one between their knees or grab at an egg or die with one under their chin and another in the crook of an arm.
The game ends when someone drops an egg. The player with the most points wins.
SCORING
Rubber eggs are each worth one point, and the wooden egg is worth two. Please do not try and bounce the wooden egg!
WHO IS THIS FOR
This is primarily a children's game, and is best played with several. However, this would be an entertaining game for drunk adults as well. A group of fun loving sober adults could find some enjoyment here, but I doubt too many of those groups will form consistently.
FINAL VERDICT
This game is a hoot. It is great filler at a birthday party, and takes just a short time to play, so it keeps the kids attention. I highly recommend this to anyone who will have several children over to their home consistently.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2018As homeschoolers we have quite a few games and Haba have been favorites since preschool. I usually buy strategy games or those that have some sneaky educational value to them for my 7 year old. We play games often so he is surprisingly good at them.
I often watch game reviews from Tom Vasel on the Dice Tower when considering new games. Honestly, we had been moving away from the Haha games and into harder games so I was intruiged when I stumbled on an old YouTube top ten list of Haba Games from Tom Vasel. Based on his reviews, I decided to add a few more Haba games into our rotation and I started with this one.
Let me tell you, we laughed so hard playing this silly game. The premise is brilliant in its simplicity. When you just want a bit of fun and a chuckle, this will be awesome. We played twice in a row and both laughed so hard as it is much more challenging than it looks.
Another reviewer pointed out that this could be played with just about any household items if you mark a couple of dice properly. I find that is true for many games. This one is so charming however. and I doubt other random items would bounce so unpredictably nor most of us have big dice like these.
I expect we will be packing this to family events, homeschool meet ups, and cub scout meetings. Just nice light hearted fun without dumbing us down or taking ages to learn and play.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2011A great game for kids 5 and up. Kids who are younger may not have the coordination to play the game. This is a great running-around-laughing-your-head-off game. It's hard to play in cramped quarters, so make sure there will be room to run around the table. The game pieces are very durable, but the little latch that holds the "egg carton" game box closed is very flimsy and stopped latching within days of game purchase, but the box is just for storage so this doesn't affect game play.
Lots of fun!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2015This is a great game for all ages. The first time I played this game, friend brought this carton of eggs to game night and we were all like, "That's a game?!?" I loved the package and couldn't wait to play.
Basically, you take turns rolling a die to collect eggs in various ways, which you then have to hold in various places on your body (elbows, knees, armpits, etc...) eventually someone will roll a picture of a person running around a table, so everyone gets up and runs around the table and the first one back to their seat gets another egg. The game is over when someone drops an egg, usually the result of frantically running around the table while avoiding people and chairs.
Super simple and insanely fun. We were laughing so hard, I couldn't hold onto an egg to save my life, I ordered my own copy straight away! But when it arrived, I quickly noticed it came in a box. I thought, "Oh, they must have put this carton in a box, seems a bit wasteful..." Nope. It was just an oddly shaped box with the eggs and dice rolling around inside. I was super disappointed. I guess I'll have to put it in my own egg carton and bring that to parties.
Other than that, it's an "egg-celent" game. I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2015This sounded like a great game but hasn't been as much fun as we'd hoped. My 4 year old still likes to play it occasionally, but some of the more active aspects (racing around the table, catching the bouncing egg) don't work well with kids at a full size table. This means we have to play sitting on the hardwood floor and that gets old pretty fast. We've also had to modify the rules as there is no way he is able to hold the eggs in the various positions on his body. It's difficult even for me and pretty uncomfortable as the eggs are surprisingly heavy and need to be held fairly tight to keep from dropping them.
