The Presto 05466 Stainless Steel Dual Basket Pro Fry Immersion Element Deep Fryer has completely changed the way I cook fried foods at home! With its simple and efficient design, frying foods has never been easier or more enjoyable.
First and foremost, I have to mention the convenience of having dual baskets. This allows me to fry two different foods at once, saving time and making meal preparation a breeze. Whether I'm frying up some crispy chicken tenders or golden onion rings, having the option to cook multiple items simultaneously is a game-changer.
I'm also impressed by how well this deep fryer maintains temperature. Even when adding frozen fries or other frozen foods to the vat, it regains temperature fairly quickly, ensuring that my food cooks evenly and comes out perfectly crispy every time. Plus, the stainless steel construction feels durable and looks sleek on my countertop.
However, one downside worth mentioning is that it takes a bit longer than expected to heat up. While this isn't a deal-breaker for me, it's something to keep in mind and plan for when preparing meals. Despite this minor inconvenience, the overall performance of the deep fryer more than makes up for it.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the Presto 05466 Stainless Steel Dual Basket Pro Fry Immersion Element Deep Fryer. It simplifies the frying process, produces delicious results, and offers excellent value for the price. If you love fried foods and want to enjoy them at home with ease, I highly recommend giving this deep fryer a try.
I’ve been searching for a good deep fryer for years. I love fried foods, especially chicken wings. I can’t get great wings where I live so I started the adventure of making my own.
There are TONS of deep fryers to choose from, but this caught my attention because of its size. I’ve fried foods using the stovetop before so I knew I needed something that can fit more than 3 chicken wings at a time. Also, I needed a fryer that was durable. I am clumsy and break stuff all the time so I needed it to be tough, durable, and easy to use.
Setup was a breeze. Not too many sharp edges or anything I can hurt myself on. The cord is super short, maybe a foot long. It’s magnetic so I needed to make sure I had a power supply close. I mounted a surge protector on the back of a table in my garage. This allowed me to not cook in the house so it doesn’t stink it up, but I can easily plug and unplug the unit with no issues and it’s not in danger of getting pulled out.
The thermostat actually lies in the oil so you get a good idea of the oil temperature. It’s extremely easy to put on an take off. There is even a safety function so if it’s not on correctly it shouldn’t power the unit on. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR OWN DIGITAL THERMOMETER TO ENSURE EXACT OIL TEMPERATURE!!!
One the fryer is set up, just dump your oil in and it’s ready. Heat up time is about 20 minutes. I would fill it more than 4 quarts if you are planning a lot of frying or doing real big fried chicken. Great thing about this is you can take the baskets out and just use the fryer alone and it frees up some room. Plus batter doesn’t stick to the basket. You need some fryer tongs or a strainer if some sort but the option is there. I’m looking forward to making donuts this way.
I used this fryer 6 times before I had to change the oil (I use peanut oil. It has a low smoke point and tastes identical to restaurants. I’ve been able to find it by the gallon for as low as $12 on sale, Wallymart usually sells 3 gallons for about $35 which is a great deal.) Cleanup was much ‘easier’ than I expected. I saved the old oil bottle so I had a place to put the used oil (just use a funnel). I had no idea if any of it was reusable so the whole 4 quarts were dumped and sent to recycling. I’m not sure how us regular folks strain oil to reuse it. Restaurants have big machines they use to filter it again and again. Once oil was out just wiped it all down, rinsed the baskets (the handles even fold in for easy storage) and filled it back up with fresh oil to the fill line on the oil container. And done.
I’ve had the product for about a month and a half and have used it well over 10 times. It doesn’t get too hot anywhere on the unit that I have noticed. The cover is great because it helps with splashing and spitting of the oil. When the unit is full and turned on, ALWAYS BE CAUTIOUS OF THE BASKETS IN THE FRYER!!!! It’s easy to get a sweatshirt or something to pull the basket while frying and then you will have a giant bad accident to deal with. BE SAFE AND SMART! READ THE DIRECTIONS! If you do this you shouldn’t have a problem.
I am successfully making chicken wings, fried shrimp, mozzarella sticks, fries and more with ease. I’ve started making most of it from scratch and the food is definitely restaurant quality. some of it is very tough and it’s a trial and error process but the reward is delicious!!!
Great little deep fryer. If u don't have storage space or counter space it may not be for you. We leaves ours on counter because we use it often. Love the double basket. Works great. Feels like a commerical fryer.
Bought this fryer to replace a cool daddy primarily because I just could not keep the plastic body of the cool daddy clean.. So opted for a stainless exterior which hopefully will lead to much easier cleaning. The two baskets are also handy as the wife likes sweet potato fries and I like regular, so doing both at once means she doesn't get cold fries while I cook mine hehehe.
On the negative side, based on reviews I checked the temp and sure enough highest temp was around 330 degrees. Tried disengaging the temp sensor and that got it to 340 but I didn't like the sensor in the way of the baskets. As this unit is relatively inexpensive (and walmart has one with the exact same interior and heating element and includes the wide basket too for 20.00 less, but the stainless steel on that one is more like aluminum foil so I may get it just for the baskets and spare element). anyway I decided to tear this thing apart to see if I could "adjust" the settings.
Before continuing.. make the call to either return this or keep it.. and I'm sure if you perform any tweaks the warranty is probably voided... just sayin.... I also do all my frying outside which probably makes me bolder about messing with hot oil as far as smoking it.
onward: There are two sensors.. one fat and one thin. The thin is the thermal overload which trips the unit on over temp and is connected right against one of the elements. The fat goes to the thermostat and is in the middle of the holder between the elements. if you remove the back of the unit ( Needless to say, don't do this if you're not comfortable tinkering) you will see the thermostat housing behind the dial, you have to pop the dial and remove the two screws to remove the thermostat from the body. You should see that the base of the thermostat is notched (on the dial side) and mine was loc-tited, which I just scrapped off. I had a tool used to pop car trim fasteners that worked well enough to rotate the base. I turned it about 5 degrees Counter-Clockwise (so very small adjustment) When I reassembled and retested.. the oil temp got to 415 at the max setting.. oops.. so you may want to make a VERY small change.. Instead of trying another adjustment to the thermostat, all I do now is set the thermostat to 350.. which gives me 375 to 380 oil temp.. I always check the oil temp before frying and will keep an eye on the adjustment to ensure the thermostat cycles properly, but so far all is well, I will update if necessary.
One other suggestion for a product improvement is an attached lid.. I hate having to remove the lid and have some place to set it down, it's pretty big.. my cool daddy just popped open and was much more convenient.
End of the day, this fryer works well for me.. good size, easy to clean and now good temp control.
Bought it from Amazon Warehouse at 50% discount due to damaged packaging. Upon receiving it I found a 1 inch dent in the exterior housing but seeing as it was on the back side I wasn't worried about it. It heats up hotter than my previous T-fal for a crisper fries and calamari rings but it does take about 7 minutes more to get to temperature. Satisfied nonetheless.
I use it mainly for French fries. Perfect for our family of six. heats up fairly slow but keeps temperature well and McCain frozen fries were never as good as now!
