As soon as I put it in my laptop, I was disappointed. True, it works perfectly well with SD and Memory Stick Pro Duo cards (that's all I have so far to feed this Express Card), and it reads and writs very fast.

BUT, unlike both of my PCMCIA Compact Flash adapters (one from Sitecom and one from San Disk) where the whole thing fits into the PCMCIA slot (that is, the adapter AND the CF card completely!), this Express Card does NOT fully host the cards.

In other words, more than one third of the SD card (almost about half of it!) overtops the notebook; and even the Stick Pro Duo, smaller than the SD, still overtops by a couple of millimeters. This kills the adapter for transporting the laptop with a card in it!

I don't see why this Express Cards can't fully host a tiny Stick Pro Duo or, even less, an SD card into the adapter (which is almost as long as it's older sister: only 1 cm. shorter) while PCMCIA Compact Flash adapters fully host a CF card, three times bigger than an SD!

Great Reader with Compatible Cards

Had this reader for over 6 months. Works great most of the time. Cannot support anything higher than 1GB on SD cards, though I wonder if this is really a limitation on this card reader or on the Mac Book Pro.

Also, Amazon's description of compatible cards may be incomplete. Here's what the packaging says on compatible cards: xD-Picture Card, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Secure Digital (SD), miniSD, TransFlash, and Memory Stick.

The transfer speed and card pluggability are nice when it works, but it:

(1) sporadically goes through phases where Windows complains that it can't recognize the device

(2) consistently fails to read common SD cards (e.g., two different SanDisk Ultra II cards) that consistently work in several other SD devices and readers

Works fine, haven't broken it yet

Nothing spectacular, but then for a product like this, what would you expect? It correctly presents a flash memory card to an ExpressCard slot, allowing it to be used as a removable drive, just as it should. Works fine on both Mac and Windows...again, no surprise there.

Plain doesn't work.

This is the biggest piece of crap I have ever bought. I am shocked that it says "Belkin" on the label. It plain doesn't work on any of my memory cards.

I bought the Belkin Multimedia Reader & Writer Expresscard for my new Macbook Pro, and it works exactly as well as a piece of ham. Well, that's probably not fair. I imagine it ejects from my Expresscard slot cleaner than a piece of ham would; but functionally it is the same as ham.

I have tried five different SD cards of various capacities in it, and it failed to read any of them. I am surprised at the poor quality from a Belkin product. After all, this isn't a no-name EBay special freshly shipped from China. It's a BELKIN!

Sometimes ok, often frustrating

I've had this card for about a year in my MacBook Pro. Here are my observations.

First, the good: it fits in the slot just fine, it doesn't require anything special to operate, it doesn't cause any issues outside of itself. It works fine with my 1 and 2 GB SD and XD cards.

The bad, though: XD cards are a tight fit. Inserting or removing an XD card while the reader is in the MacBook is tough -- it will often cause the reader to come out of the slot. Not a big deal, more of an annoyance. It will not recognize my 16 GB SD card. This severly undermines the utility of the reader. What's the point of keeping this one if I have to have one for my bigger cards?

Works great - with certain cards -

I was a big fan of this card when i got it. It sits in my otherwise unused expresscard slot on my Macbook Pro, and I never had to worry about having my USB cable or a USB reader for my digital camera.

Unfortunately, I just bought a new SD Card (SanDisk SDSDH-2048-901 2 GB Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card (Retail Package)) and it doesn't recognize it. The same card works fine with a USB reader on the same computer.

Doesn't work for me

The card itself is recognized OK by both my 17" MacBook Pro as well as my Lenovo laptop. BUT, I've tried several different sizes and brands of MMC and SD cards with no luck whatsoever. None of them are seen by Win XP or Mac OS 10.4.8. Belkin's website is completely mum about any support or suggestions. Bleh. Since some of them seem to work for other commenters, I can only guess that mine is DOA. Maybe a quality-control issue?
