- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2010I've used these in my wife's Nikon Coolpix for over 3 years now. I know we've charged them more than a dozen times. Assuming a pack of 4 AA disposable batteries runs about $5 average, that's over $60.
Based on this usage pattern, it looks like we got a little over 3 years out of the first set of 4. Although not quite up to the 5 years you'd expect out of a car or UPS battery (which are lead acid and a different technology) these Eneloop batteries definitely have a slower self-discharge rate than any of the NiCd or NiMh batteries we tried at first.
From the start 3 years ago, I have been using the Powerex WizardOne aa/aaa NiMH Battery Charger-Analyzer which I use to monitor the capacity of these batteries. Brand new, they typically report between 1800-1900mAh and when they start falling below 1600mAh, I'll put them through a conditioning cycle on the Powerex MH-C9000 WizardOne Charger-Analyzer. That always brings them back up to the 1800-1900mAh range except recently (after having the 1st set for over 3 years) where it stayed around 1500mAh after conditioning.
I'm sure I could have kept using the decreased capacity batteries longer but getting 3+ years out of the 1st set was well worth the price to just by this new set. Since the Nikon Coolpix only uses 2x AA batteries, my wife keeps the 2nd set of 2x AA Eneloop batteries in the camera case as a backup. As a testament to the slow self-discharge rate of the Eneloop, those backup batteries may sit in the camera case for over 2 months since being charged, but when she needs them and puts them in the camera, they still show full charge and she can take pictures for at least a month. When we used NiMh batteries in the same manner, the backup set would already be 1/2 dead in 2 months.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2009i have many NiMh batteries that have a little greater amp hour rating than the eneloop .. but i find you can rarely use that extra capacity .. reason, the standard batteries self discharge quickly and in a week or so you cant depend on them .. you have to charge them just before you use them and thats inconvenient.. now comes the eneloop .. i love them .. you can charge them and not use them for months .. then you can depend on them to be at nearly full capacity when they are needed .. so you actually realize more usefull capacity than the others .. you dont have to charge them as often so the life time goes up .. they also can be recharged many more times than standard NiMh batteries again increasing useful life .. wouldnt it be great to have batteries like the eneloop in your cordless drill some day .. how many times has your drill been dead just when you need it (always in my case) .. with the eneloop you need only charge them once a year or so .. and its always ready when you are .. i cant wait until these batteries are available in such equipment.. the eneloop is working so well for me that i am replacing all my AA and AAA NiCd and NiMh and even some primary lithiums (photography) .. my flashlights are now eneloop and i dont worry about using them a lot or just storing them for an emergency .. its nice to have them always ready and dependable .. i guess you can say "i am a very happy customer" ..
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016I purchased these in March of 2011 to run my Logitech remote that eats two AA's in less than two weeks. I can't even begin to figure out how much money I have saved over this time period not to mention all the batteries I have kept out of the land fill. I have 12 of these all together. I cycle thru 8 of these for my remote and 4 for my digital camera which I only use a few times a year.
I keep waiting for them to die so I can buy the newer generation but I have not seen any loss of power with these, after five+ years they still last the same amount of time before my remote tells me they need recharging, about 12 days.
If your not using rechargeable batteries these days you should be.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2009The Sanyo eneloops are the only batteries I can get that will last more than a few pictures in my Canon digital cameras (A570is and A1000is). It seems like all the Canon's that take only 2 AA cells have a notoriously high voltage cutoff for determining a low battery condition. The Sanyo eneloops keep a high enough voltage for most of their charge life to stay above the Canon cutoff voltage. I have not found any other rechargeable batteries that will work. Additionally, the eneloops will hold their charge far longer than standard NiMH batteries and can withstand more charge cycles.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2023Use them like crazy for electric candles. Work great!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2018These batteries purport to have a longer life between charges. They don’t. And, according to my batter tester, they don’t have nearly the power at full charge as regular batts. If you have to depend on them- emergency flashlight, etc. find another solution.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2012I have a digital camera that is a total vampire. It drains the battery twice as fast when it's off as it does when it's in use. I tried every kind of regular and rechargeable battery and was still constantly changing batteries. These eneloops I can actually leave in my camera and expect the camera to work next time I turn it on. They're awesome.

MpoloReviewed in France on December 26, 20125.0 out of 5 stars Formidables
KJReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 26, 20095.0 out of 5 stars The best yet
Having bought and tried this I am completely sold. I have bought good quality rechargeable batteries before and they work fine but lose their charge when not in use. I just had to recharge them all over again before use making keeping a stock of charged batteries pretty impossible. These keep their charge and that makes all the difference. The blurb claims that 85 per cent of the charge is retained after a year of non-use. Whether this is accurate or not I don't know but clearly it keeps far longer that other famous brands. This is the way for batteries to go and I reckon all rechargeable batteries will soon be using this technology. If you want rechargeables, this is the one to buy.

J-P AzémaReviewed in France on June 26, 20134.0 out of 5 stars Un très bon produit.
