Sprouts are a powerhouse food. They aid the body in digestion, increase fiber content and protein availability, and they’re excellent for skin and hair. Their essential fatty acid content aids in fat-burning and their minerals improve body chemistry balance. Sprouts nourish us with a myriad of vitamins and nutrients and some sprout varieties even produce a cancer-fighting compound called isothiocyanate when consumed, and research by the American Chemical Society suggests that these compounds are the most potent when untreated. What better way to ensure their strength than by growing them in your very own kitchen?

Works well
Easier to use then my old sprouting 2 tier tower. The holes were too wide and I kept losing a lot of the small seeds before they had sprouted. I have not had that problem with this one.I just bought a second one since I have been mainly using the first for soaking cashews, it is much easier to drain the water out of the jar with this lid than using the jar's lid and band.

Works great. Took two one pint wide mouth mason jars with the sprouting lids on a recent 3 week trip to Chile and sprouted greens and beans in my rental accommodations. Nice to have fresh sprouts every day even when thousands of miles away from home. The pint (or 24 oz. jars) serve as nice additional sprouting mediums when I want to add or try out new spouts. Normally I use the Sproutmaster and Easy Sprouter (for beans) but the lids and mason jars add flexibility, and as mentioned, are nice for traveling. I have multiple sprouters so that when I start running a little low I start a new batch so I don't run out.

I bought this after searching for a similar, if not identical lid I had years ago. They are a comparatively inexpensive solution but do require almost as much cleaning as cheesecloth. They are also better for some seeds than others. if you are growing larger sprouts like lentil or mung bean; no problem. It will work fine and will not cause you much trouble or extra effort. If you are growing smaller seeds like clover or alfalfa they will fall through before they swell and get stuck in the holes (requiring extra rinsing) after. That said, if you are growing a variety of seeds no one size will be perfect.
My biggest issue with this is the cost. really it should (and usually does) cost $1-2. I guess shipping is built in, but that said, if you buy a lot of small things you will be paying a lot more than if you bought it at a store. if you are growing a small amount of sprouts and don't mind spending the time clearing swollen seeds and hulls out of the holes, this is a decent solution. if you are just trying it out and do not know whether or not you are really going to want to do this routinely the same applies. It is a relatively inexpensive way to try growing sprouts (but then, so is cheesecloth and a rubber band).

After growing my first batch with this lid I revised my opinion. It is easier than cheesecloth (with no mold or rot), BUT I had a hard time finding a jar it would fit6 on well. It also is not as good or flexible as the old lid I had (which has a sliding/ adjustable opening. I do think they cost a bit more than they should, but that said, are not very expensive and is likely the best way to go for people who are not sure if they will be sprouting on a regular basis. Among the other advantages in that regard is that it does not take up too much storage space.
In sum, it bests cheesecloth by a little bit, is less costly than dedicated sprouters, but is not as good as another lid I have owned (and costs more than it ought)

I've been sprouting for years. Usually I just stretch a double layer of nylon netting over a jar lid and fasten it with a rubber band. Nylon netting is cheap. I'm still using the yard I bought many years ago for 89 cents. When I needed another $2.00 to get free shipping on another item, I treated myself to this strainer lid. Why not treat myself to something useful rather than shell out another $6.00 for shipping.

It works fine. It's easy to clean and toss in my utility drawer. I've never understood fancy sprouting set ups. I'm happy with a jar and this lid.

Had one of these that I'd had for a number of years that cracked. This one fits my wide mouth canning quart jar though it does screw on tough like it isn't quite threaded perfectly. I worry that I may crack this one if I force it too hard. It works better than cheese cloth and drains water well. Have tried a couple different jars to see if for some reason the jar is a dud. May look into the stainless steel model though more expensive.

This sprout strainer lid is the best. I have tried all sorts of sprouting systems, yet I always end up returning to the original way I learned in the 70s, with a mason jar. These sprouter lids make it a no-brainer -- you rinse and drain in the morning, and again in the evening, and VOILA! you get sprouts!

The lid fits a wide-mouth Mason jar perfectly (unlike other similar products I have tried). The only other viable option I have ever found is a metal screen with a standard mason jar metal ring. I like the plastic lid better, because it cleans up more easily, and it is not likely to corrode.

I currently have two of these lids in constant production. Sometimes I think I need more, as I could grow smaller quantities of sprouts and grow more different kinds, if I had more of these lids.

Long story short, if you are sprouting in mason jars, these lids will be worth their weight in gold.

Lids came well packaged and in great condition. First time using them and I can already tell these will not work well. Water does not drain out of the sprouting jars very easy. The mesh-like lid does not allow easy drainage of water or, for that matter, even adding water to rinse the seeds. The water 'stands' on top of the lid without passing through the lid, so I removed the lid, added water, rinsed the seeds, but then the water does not drain out easily so I end up shaking the jar quite a bit. I do not recommend. I will end up poking the holes bigger and/or ordering different type of lid.

Works a treat. I've been using this when growing alfalfa sprouts and it works as described. I think I'd prefer the metal mesh that goes inside the canning jar lid, but at the time of purchase I was just experimenting with growing sprouts and wanted to go cheep and this does the job so no need to get something else. NOTE: be sure you get the right size for your jar - I don't do any canning, but have several jars of things friends have given me so I just used one of the jars I had and noticed that some jars have smaller mouths than others. This lid fits the larger mouthed jar.
