Product Description

The Edsal CBD1836 storage cabinet dolly has a steel frame and four swivel caster wheels, and can be used to turn an Edsal CB721836 modular workspace storage system cabinet (sold separately) from a stationary cabinet into a mobile cabinet. The dolly is made of steel, which is stronger than aluminum and more resistant to fractures than cast iron. The black powder-coated finish resists scratches, chipping, fading, and other wear. The caster wheels swivel for maneuverability and have brakes to keep the dolly from rolling. This dolly has a load capacity of 1,000 lb. and measures 4 x 36 x 18 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)

Dollies are used to transport any of a variety of large, heavy objects, such as cabinets, crates, drum containers, furniture, heavy machinery, large appliances, rolls of carpet, or totes. Dollies are typically comprised of a low platform or deck mounted to caster wheels that may swivel for maneuverability and may include brakes to keep the dolly from rolling. Some dollies have adjustable frames to transport loads of different sizes. Others come with a pull handle to help the user move the dolly. Dollies can be used by professional movers or in warehouses or other industrial environments.

I bought this dolly to put under a cabinet in my small Recording Studio to give more room in the space. While I am somewhat handy I was surprised that the unit did not come with instructions. I came back here to Amazon and noticed there weren't any detailed instructions sooo.

After I ordered a second unit, the instructions came with the unit and I scanned them for you!! They are in the photo below!!

1. Lay the unit on the floor and make sure the wheels holes line up with the holes on the unit. Lots of complaints on this, mine lined up perfectly. There are only two locking wheels .... so decide before you start attaching them where you want those to go. As for the locking wheels, I decided to put them on the front side (or one side) so that when I move the cabinet back I can lock them from the front of the unit.

2. Next, put your wheels onto the bottom of the unit. The screws go through first onto the top of dolly onto the wheels and you put the washer on the OTHER SIDE of the unit. Then, finally you put the bolt onto that and tighten by hand as tightly as you can. Sometimes if a bolt didn't go on the screw easily, I flipped it over and tried it on the other side of the bolt. Don't know why that worked, but it did.

3. Put all the screws, washers and bolts on by hand first. The washers are locking washers so you will need a hex wrench to tighten them on. I found a 11mm hex wrench in my garage and proceeded to tighten the bolts with the hex wrench to lock the washers to the unit so that it doesn't move.. Locking washers are so cool. Once you tighten them, they are on great! Voila! It worked perfectly.

Enjoy. I love this product. Inexpensive and fit perfectly with my cabinet.

I have a stone age steel filing cabinet that must have been made out of Sherman tank barrels. It is HEAVY. Accordingly, it rarely gets moved. The last time I moved it, it literally bent the tongue of the hand truck I was using. Well, after six or seven years it needed to be moved again. I searched Amazon for some sort of caster set for filing cabinets and this bad boy matched the dimensions I needed.

Assembly was a breeze – take it out of the box, attached four bolts and nuts for each set of casters, and you are ready to rock.

I placed the storage base against a wall, man-handled the cabinet slightly forward (don't do this by yourself) and rocked the USS New Jersey onto the platform. This was actually pretty easy.

The great thing is that it rolls smoothly, even over carpet (think living room carpet, not workplace carpet) and moving the filing cabinet – while not a frequent event – won't be dreaded. This is affordable and very functional for home use!

There is nothing wrong with these, I put stuff together like this for a living and these are just fine. The bolts aren't cheap and don't break unless you way over tighten them. And if you do break one somehow in a fit of rage, go to Lowes and spend 12 cents and buy a new one. Better yet buy a grade 8 bolt to replace it so you don't iron man the thing off again. The holes line up with the wheels just fine, no different than any other item of this nature. All the items for assembly are included. They can be mounted on either side, so if you cabinet won't fit in the space between in the flanges, you can flip it over.

My only complaint would be that they could have included flat washers as well as the lock washers.
You won't find a stronger roller for this price. It's all one piece, and not adjustable, but that's a plus nit a negative.

Solid Bottom, easy to put together!

Easy to put together! I did it in less than 30 minutes. I thought a locking ring was missing, but found it in a crease in the box. I tightened the bolts down by hand, and if I see them looser I'll do it with a wrench. I got this as a solution to put 2 plastic 14.5 x 12.3 Sterilte Plastic Drawer cabinets on after their wheels broke. I wanted to get them up off the floor so I could sweep under them, and move them around. This was the best solution I could find as other dollies do not have a solid bottom. The cabinets fit and there is extra room on each side, but that's fine as I put hard drives and laptop cords in the extra area to get them off the floor too. It beat paying for all new storage cabinets.

Edsal Could Have Spent 86 Cents More on Hardware

This is a nice heavy duty dolly that I used with a file cabinet my office with hardwood floors so I could move the cabinet out of a closet that contains the air handler for our HVAC system. My A/C guy is going to appreciate this. Goes to together easily, but, the lock washers included are a little too small and can be partially pulled through the mounting slots when tightening them. To do this job in a workmanlike manner you need to go out and buy some flat washers large enough to prevent the lock washers from partially pulling through the mounting slots. Took me 30 minutes and 86 cents to do this. Somewhat irritating actually. Aside from this issue the dolly was easily assembled and is quite robust.

Come on Edsal, spent 86 cents more on hardware...

Great product. Extremely durable and well built. I was skeptical when I first bought it thinking it wouldn't be rigid or sturdy enough but I was wrong. The metal is thick enough to hold up heavy objects without flexing a ton and the casters are good enough that you can roll it across the floor without an excessive amount of effort once it's loaded up. Would definitely buy again. I might actually buy a few more for the other shelves I have. You can't beat the quality for the cost on this.
