Product Description

This ultra telephoto zoom lens offers a fast aperture of F2.8 at the 500mm focal length and F5.6 at the 1000mm. It covers widely-used focal lengths from 200mm to 500mm and has a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. This lens can be used to create amazing image expression with various types of photography such as astrophotography, portraits, wildlife, sports. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass and three ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for all type of aberrations. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high image quality from the extremely large aperture. The lens hood, designed exclusively for this lens, blocks out extraneous light. A 72mm filter can be inserted at the rear of the lens, and a circular polarizing filter can be used in situ thanks to the ingenious internal rotation mechanism. The dedicated Li-ion battery BP-21 is used to power the zooming and AF operation. This battery is built in the lens barrel. For the convenience of the photographer, focusing distances and focal lengths can be viewed on the lens' built-in LCD panel.

Good lens with one small caveat.

Good lens with one small caveat.
Good lens with one small caveat due to the limitations imposed by the speed of light. Keep in mind that when fully zoomed in, your pictures will not show the subject in real time. I tried to take a photo of a large mirror some distance away and this was the result.

So, I decided to pull the trigger and grab this lens while half asleep at midnight and I really gotta say it was worth every cent. Well not my cents but the banks cents...

Anyways My first approach at using this lens I decided to look for the galaxy HD1, and it did not disappoint. I really think I saw other living creatures. After that got old, I wanted to check up on my neighbors and make sure they weren't doing anything mischievous, if you know what I mean. So I pointed right through my bedroom window and saw the most important thing that really made this lens speak for itself. I saw my neighbor Jerald buttering his toast with a PLASTIC spoon. I know you may be thinking "okay? who cares" but no no, I watched his buttered up fingers grab a brand new shiny chrome butter knife. Then seconds after watched it slip from his finger tips, while going to catch the knife before it hits the ground he managed to take a big spill and fell to the floor. All while laying on the floor he ended up finding a dusty white plastic butter knife under his cabinet. His eyes then lit up because he's been looking for it for years. I remember looking out the window on a July evening watching him trim his bushes with this butter knife. I really couldn't tell you why cause he had a brand new pair of hedge trimmers sitting in my garage. After he found the plastic knife he was so excited that he forgot to wash it off, he then realized that his toast has been sitting in the toaster this whole time. Before it turned completely black he ran for the toaster and ripped the pieces of toast out. He then continued to slam them on his kitchen counter and fiercely jammed the plastic knife into the butter holster. Slathering all the butter and dust onto his almost black toast.

After watching this gruesome event I decided to return the lens cause it wasn't for me. I then moved off the grid so I'd never have neighbors again.

anyways great lens, also its green which is a plus.

p.s. I noticed that he's been using hair growing treatment cause I saw the chemicals binding to his scalp while he was laying on the floor.

For whatever reason - this is my only lens that tends to hunt a lot while it tries to focus. When the subject IS detected (I predominately shoot macro shots of insect genitals typically from a mile+ distance) the recoil on this guy renders any shot almost completely useless (non crane held mind you).

Couple that with the fact that you MUST leave this lens on your body or you will lose it due to the color scheme of the lens (camo green - really?), and the fact I can only shoot this with earplugs (EXTREMELY LOUD - do not shoot past community noise ordinance or near a window/mirror) there is a lot to be said regarding the R&D of this lens.

Outside those small cons - overall I’ll call it a decent lens.

ONE LAST MENTION:

Do NOT take to any ceremonial event - period. I was hired for a wedding and straight up blew the wig off the priest, made the bride cry, blew out (as is hanging outside the ear canal/dangling on the lower lobe) the ear drums of the couple I crouched next to (did not think to make sure people around me had ear protection), broke my chin, bruised my ribs and bent my monopod in half just for a “kiss shot”.

TRIPOD at the very least. At ALL times.

For only $26,000, obviously this isn't going to be the top of the line lens. You get what you pay for on such a small budget.

I purchased this with the optional man-pad anti-aircraft/tank option for when I shoot in war torn areas for self protection. All in all, really rugged, and I use the m60 turret on my Jeep to mount this bad boy.

I zoom around a fair amount and image stabilization is tough which affects image quality. I have not found a gimbal that will hold this yet although I am in conversations with NASA regarding their stabilizers for their cameras.

I have used the man-pad anti tank once on an approaching vehicle that was engaging my new at about 2000 meters. All I can say is wow. The only thing I found was an axel and a few other scraps. The photo was not impressive as it simply showed the projectile smeared in flight and then an explosion of some sort. Needless to say the shooting stopped.

What I would like to see in future iterations is a rail mounting system to potentially mount a ma-deuce for closer encounters and potentially laser rangefinders. I also would like to see a blue tooth adaptor to control all the features from my iPhone as clicking off the man-pad rounds is a bit scary up close and personal like. Maybe a hydraulic lens shield that snaps down to cover the lens as I find myself having to clean rocket propellant or maybe just buy some throw away Uv filters. Finally, be careful if you do choose the man-pad options as the ITAR rules are important considerations. At over 30k with options, a bargain if you find yourself in Afghanistan during a firefight. The green is also easily adapted to camo colors.
