- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2009I have tried a lot of ear buds/head phones. I can be honest and say that the people buying Bose ear buds are fooling themselves that ANY ear buds/headphones are worth $99+. Don't get me wrong, the Bose do sound nice, there is no way you can convince me that they are any better than these for three times the price. I bet if you had these blind tested the Bose buyers could not tell the difference (I could not and I just tried a Bose set today) I have pretty decent hearing.
As far as fitment I think you need to be honest with yourself, if you don't want something in your ear, then look for a different set up. I personally find the tips to be very comfortable. (better than the Ipods) With 3 different sets of tips it should fit most people's ear canals. Again complaining that I have seen in these reviews of people with tiny ear canals or huge ones makes me wonder what people are thinking. If you have very unusual ear size, surgery that could cause pain or a deformity that would conflict with a device put in your ear canal, then why are you even considering EAR BUDS? you will see when you get your ear buds, the three supplied tips go from tiny to huge. Anyone that can not fit these tips CAN NOT FIT ANY EAR BUDS period. The people complaining that these do not stay snug in their ear canal must have a short canal or one the size of a quarter or the size of a pencil. either way they will not find ear buds to fit and complaining about these is misleading to the vast majority that these will fit.
I have seen other complaints of lack of bass, please be realistic here, the Bass is reasonable, but I have never seen any buds (Including Bose) that produce the same bass as a full sized headset. These are very good (Much better than my Ipod ear buds)
For all of you Ipod owners looking for something better I judge these to be 50% to 75% BETTER than the supplied Ipod ear buds. I actually think the ipod ear buds as decent, I thought they where 100% better than the cheap Sandisk ear buds. After 3 months though I started to get a buzzing in one of my Ipod buds so I looked to a replacement. I am very happy with these so far.
The short review, these perform as well as $99 Bose ear buds for 1/3 of the price. It comes with a decent case and a cord extension and three different sized tips that should fit 99% of users. The tips are soft and comfortable and seal out much of the outside noise.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2009My biggest complaint is SONY EARBUDS SUCK!!! When they work they are awesome for the money. The problem is they are so unreliable that I've absolutely had it with them....
I started out three years ago with the Fontopia earbuds which sounded great but lasted less than a year after the low quality cord frayed and broke from normal everyday use.
I then purchased the MDR-EX71s which were great. The cords were way more durable and the sound seemed to be even deeper and clearer than the fontopias. After almost 2 years unfotunately the right earbud cut out one day and died so I had a great left ear system but no sound on the right which is probably the most irritating thing ever known to man! I have read this problem is very common from other reviews.
I this point I was going to give up on Sony but I though I'd give them another try since despite all that happend in the past I was happy with the sound quality and the price. As soon as the EX71s died I immediately ordered the EX-75s. After reading the excellent reviews that they got from other customers I was SO excited to get them and finally have sound in both ears.
I couldn't have been more dissapointed when I got them to find out that right out of the brand new box I encountered the same dreaded problem with these brand new earbuds.... The right side did not work yet again. What is the deal with Sony? After I exchange these from Sony (they are covered under warranty) I am done with Sony earbuds and caution you as well.... Think twice before giving your money to Sony!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2008In my search for a good pair of ear bud headphones, these are my second attempt in two months at finding the perfect set for me. The first set that I tried was a pair of Skull Candy Smokin' Buds in this same price tier. This pair does have slightly better sound quality (which isn't saying much) and a considerably better case (the Smokin' Buds only come with a drawstring pouch...which makes them very prone to being tangled constantly).
There are a few issues I have with it. First, as for sound quality, they are OK at best. There is a fair amount of static at even moderate volumes(regardless of the source...I've tried multiple sources and bitrates of files including lossless codecs). I think I need something with just a little bit more bass as well, without being overbearing. Also, they aren't as comfortable as the Skull Candy pair, and while I appreciate the hard plastic case because it keeps the wires untangled, it's going to be a bit too large to carry around easily come warm weather. Right now, I don't have an issue with it, because I can put it in my jacket pocket, but once the need to wear a jacket subsides, I'll have nowhere to put the case. It's definitely too big to put in the pocket of any of my jeans. I'm not sure if any set of headphones has a good solution for this problem, but I guess I'll have to keep looking and possibly expand my search to a higher pricing tier.
