The flashlight's weight is a concern, with customers noting it's heavy to hold for extended periods, and its lifespan varies, with some units lasting 4 years while others fail within a year.

This was a good light for about one and one half years

This was a good light for about one and one half years
This was a good light for about one and one half years. One day all that would happen when the trigger was pulled, was that the lamp flashed once and went out. I plugged in the wall charger and the lamp operated normally. I opened the case and removed the battery for testing. It registered voltage, but I had no way to test amperage. The local Batteries Plus store checked it on their equipment and said that it was done. I spent a part of two days hunting the internet for a battery to fit in the case. (Batteries Plus was unable to get this battery) Nothing close was found and the case cannot be modified to accept a battery with larger dimensions. I hate that we are a 'throw away' society! If a company is going to sell a product, there should be support for the product after the sale. Okay, I was just going to hit "SEND", when I realized that I had not given COLEMAN a chance to remedy this. I called their customer service and spoke to a very nice rep who informed that this light is a older model and batteries are no longer available and only sold by third parties. I have ordered anothe light with good reviews and replacable alkaline batteries that should be available for a while. Very disappointed in this outcome as the light was handled gently. I read a number of other reviews that also have battery issues and there are numerous queries as to where to find this battery, but at some point the time is not worth the effort.

Read and follow the instructions to the letter. I received mine in good shape. First AC charging cycle was 18 hours-timed (as per instructions,) and it netted 4 HOURS AND 15 MINUTES of continuous lighting; timed, monitored, and recorded. Second charging cycle was 18 hours (as per instructions,) resulting in 4 HOURS AND 19 MINUTES of constant lighting. Final charging cycle was 18 hours (as per instructions.) Apparently the battery must be "exercised and conditioned." I'm looking forward to many, many, hours of service. Yes, a bit heavy and bulky, but you're going to get hours of cord-less service, if properly cared-for. Maybe not "as-bright" as the 3-4 ga-zillion candle-power spots, (I dunno, lumens and CP are not the same,) but this thing is cord-LESS, and out-of-the-box it lights for HOURS! I thought it would never shut-off! But, finally, "click" - off it went. I released the locking-trigger immediately (as per instructions.) I've not yet tried the car-adapter for lighting or charging.

This spotlight is incredible! A tree at 100-yards-measured (that's 300 feet-a football field) was amply illuminated for whatever you have in mind. Animals, people, vehicles, "targets," intruders, are going to be "lit-up" like daylight. Well, maybe not DAYLIGHT, but you get the idea... This is one BRIGHT SPOTLIGHT. At 100-yards, its "spot" is about 30-feet, with spill-over of 50-60-feet. Cordless, AC, or car adapter operable, this is one great spot. With the Coleman brand, I expect years of service. Numerous applications: hunting, walking/hiking, camping, home safety/surveillance, boating, auto-emergencies, power outages; got daylight? You will, with this spotlight... remember, it's CORD-LESS!

Thank-You Coleman, and Amazon. Great product! Great Service! Definitely RECOMMENDED!

UPDATE: After more careful "measuring," the spillover light (non-spot) area on a 100 yard "target" is about 100 yards wide. That gives plenty of "ambient" (non-spot) light to the left and right of the spot to see a whole lot of activity. Helpful when searching/monitoring wide areas in addition to the spot itself. Hope this helps in your decision. I'd buy again! :)

UPDATE: 12/30/15... After 3-1/2 years of use, through 11 (eleven) charging cycles, the spotlight is STILL working just fine, THANK YOU COLEMAN! Intermittent use, various uses and times, battery is holding well, when I think it's getting close to expiring, I run it down all the way, then re-charge it back up for 18 hours. When I need dependable BRIGHT LIGHT, I GRAB MY COLEMAN!

UPDATE! 1/14/2017 ...... 13th charging cycle, still going strong. Outstanding service... Sad-to-see it is now "unavailable."

UPDATE! 3/27/2021: Recharged through 19 charging cycles as per instructions, and still going strong!

This was a five star review. That's below. That was then. This is now.

Actually, my five star review plummeted to a one star about a year after I purchased the spotlight. I'm only now revising my review because I can't deal with the stupid spotlight any more and I'm shopping around for a replacement and figured I should update this as well.

I did state below that it held a charge for quite a while. Yeah. It did. That feature is now gone. I can leave this plugged in to charge for days on end and it will work for maybe five minutes. There is an equation to determine how long it will hold a charge - the further I am from my house (as stated below, I live in the mountainous wilds bordering a US National Forest), the shorter the battery life; exponentially so if the power is out and there are wild animal sounds. It was a waste of money and I regret buying it. Hopefully the next one won't let me down.

I was wowed and amazed by it and sang its praises but I was duped. Now it's just an ugly plug-in lamp without a base.

    *********************************************

First of all, I've never owned any other spotlight or anything beefier than a giant Maglite so I can't compare the performance to any other spotlights.

This spotlight is exactly what I needed and I am incredibly happy with it's quality and performance. It holds a charge for quite some time (I haven't kept track of how long but I haven't noticed it being anything other than "a while") and charges quickly. I haven't had reason to use the car charger feature yet so I can't comment on that. If you happen to get it dirty, or completely filthy like my husband did, you'll find out that it's very easy to clean with a damp paper towel.

The brightness is great! I live in a very back-of-beyond place - many acres bordering a US National Forest - that is heavily wooded and the only light is the light I provide. There is no ambient light from any cities and streetlights are many, many miles away. When I have to go out at night, this spotlight is the ONLY light I have to guide my way and it works beautifully. The area that it lights up is quite large while still keeping the center brightest. There is no dead spot in the center like conventional flashlights.

Make sure you note the size and the weight of this spotlight as it is not small and it is not light. Because of where I live and my lack of desire to be eaten by a large carnivorous animal, when I walk about at night I have to carry the spotlight as well as a rifle. Though I haven't had cause to find out for certain, there's no way I could hold the spotlight and fire a bolt-action, large caliber rifle so I had to come up with some way to carry it hands-free (it also gets really tiring after a while carrying it). I fashioned a sling for it out of an old belt and a carabineer and I'm able to carry it in a cross-body sling fashion. The wide swath of the beam combined with the swinging caused by my natural gait provides me with a sweeping beam of light so none of the lions, tigers, or bears (oh my) can sneak up on me from the side.

Bottom line - I'm so very happy with this purchase and have no regrets whatsoever.

This type of light (led, portable, rechargable, no cord required, very bright, not too heavy, long lasting beam) sure is convenient. It is solid and is rated better than similar lights sold on Amazon. Very pleased.

Even though it turns on bright right out of the box, be sure to charge it for at least 10 hours before you have a serious use for it.

UPDATE June 2013: I took away 2 stars. Have you tried replacing the battery in this thing? Sealed lead acid batteries typically don't last longer than 3 or 4 years. So unless you consider this a disposable item after that time, you will have to contend with the expensive and difficult chore of replacing the battery. I accidentally overcharged the battery by using the wrong charger. I need a new battery and found only one source: $33 with shipping, 2/3 the price of the unit. It is difficult to take the unit apart to access and replace the battery. I imagine it is even more difficult to put it back together. The instructions say the battery is user replaceable but they make it difficult to do so. Coleman does not offer replacement batteries. Finding one is like looking for hen's teeth.
