I am a new gardener and wanted to make sure I started out with healthy soil. It comes with basic instructions that are easy to follow and gives quick results that are easy to read. As I had suspected, my soil is very low in everything (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash). Based on the results, I could identify what needed to be done to my garden before planting in spring. You will need distilled water for the pH testing, only about 3ml. I made my own distilled water on the stove top, but you may want to purchase some and have it ready. One tip, I would test in the fall so you have time to amend your soil (most changes to your soil are recommended to be done in the fall so they have time to work before spring). Also, I added a few photos of the pamphlet that talks about how to perform the tests and what to do with the results.

I was cautious about the test chemicals being somewhat old........but.....much to my satisfaction, they seemed fresh enough to get a prompt reading and seem to be very close to actual numbers received from our local State University. Thanks for a great product that we can rely on to be correct. I do recommend this product and the "two" test seems to be the best way to go to prevent having those dreaded old and stale test chemicals. The one I used worked very well.

I used this to test two different areas of soil and get results on what it needs to properly grow plants. It was very simple to use and appears to be accurate, I did some other tests with household items to get an idea if it was on point or not & also knew that the nitrogen probably wasn't great. It turned out to be super low.

I also watched some videos on youtube of people using this and 1/5 of the videos I watched actually followed the directions correctly. For the PH tube you add the soil directly but for the other 4 tubes you have to create a mixture, let it settle a bit, and then add that water to the capsule in the tube. Seems most people just add the soil directly to every tube which is not what the directions ask you to do. It's also easy to avoid spilling the product, the capsule goes right in and for the water you can use an eyedropper or straw.

After having problems with my lawn this past summer, I decided to use this kit to test my soil.The soil samples indicated which area of my lawn was alkaline and which needed lime. These allowed me to buy what I needed to treat my soil in order to seed for the fall.Now I have grass.

I got this to test my soil that I'll be putting a greenhouse on. The PH test worked fine but the other 3 tests are really hard to read. In the end only one of them actually worked and it took way longer then the instructions specified. The other 2 tests, potash and nitrogen, never produced results.

I had some issues getting it to work for the other tests, but I really just wanted to test the pH and the other issues may have been user error. I followed the directions, but really didn't see any difference in color.
