Works Beyond Perfect!!
I am turning my old computer into a DVR (using Windows 7 Media Center), and was unable to use the on board graphics to get Over The Air HD channels in. I purchased this to fix that problem, and it did beyond belief!!!!I installed this in a Dell Dimension 3000, with Intel Pentium 4 (2.8 GHz) with 1.5 GB of RAM, running Windows 7 Professional x86. The Dell Dimension 3000 only has PCI slots, so I was limited to what I can use, most newer cards are PCI-Express, so finding a PCI card, that was any good was tough. I then came to this product. With 512MB of Memory and a PCI connection this was a great choice!I opened up the computer and plugged this card into an available PCI slot (the heat sink on the card is large, so you may need to put it away from other cards), and turned on the computer. Straight from boot the Computer could use this PCI card and had no problem using VGA. Windows detected it and I installed the software (I did not use the CD, instead I downloaded the latest software from NVIDIA's website).I rebooted the computer and was looking at great graphics with super fast performance! I plugged in an HDMI cable going to my TV and it switched over with no problem, so now I have Video and Sound going through the HDMI cable from this card!!!!I have tested the computer by viewing video from my TV Tuner (Over the Air HD programming) and had no problem. All the videos that would not play before (Like Media Center DVR content plays perfectly) and their is no shuttering or video problems! When I run the Windows Experience here are my results:Processor: 3.7Memory: 4.1Graphics: 4.2Gaming Graphics: 4.5 (Amazing improvement!!!)Primary HDD: 4.1The results before the new card were installed (Intel Integrated Graphics):Processor: 3.7Memory: 4.1Graphics: 1.9Gaming Graphics: 1.0Primary HDD: 4.1In the end this is a great video card for any computer not just older computers (although a more powerful one might be needed for gaming). I am extremely happy with this card, from the easy installation and drivers from NVIDIA to the HDMI output to my TV, it is great!!! I highly recommend for anyone looking to speed up an older computer.I am using this computer as a DVR using Windows Media Center for watching TV and recording. Here are the specs of my system to help anyone out:Dell Dimension 3000Original MotherboardIntel Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz1.5 GB of Memory (1024 + 512 MB chips)Windows 7 Professional, 32 BitFor the price and features this card can not be beat!!! I highly recommend it!!!!

Like many other people reviewing this video card, I bought it to upgrade my old Dell 2400 with its original Celeron CPU running at 2.08 GHZ. Installing it was a bit strange because I didn't install the driver first. I just installed the card and booted up, expecting an alert about the driver. The alert never came, possibly because my DSL modem was still on-line. It was a goofball move on my part, but maybe people would like to know that NVidia pretty much covered all the bases in this regard.
So, to answer the most important question; YES THIS NVidia CARD WORKS PERFECTLY WITH MY OLD DELL DIMENSION 2400 with the orig Celeron chip still installed. (Read on about my CPU upgrade.)

#1 Once the NVidia was through installing its driver, then negotiating with my new ASUS ML228H 22-Inch Ultra-Slim Widescreen LED Monitor, I noticed the following;
***Jaw-dropping clarity, resolution and speed. (Speed meaning an improved frame-rate at YouTube, Hulu, and the few videos and movies I had in my download folder.) YouTube came up to about 20fps, Hulu about 25fps with my old CPU still installed. (Not too shabby for my old fossil Dell.)

***Seamless integration with my system and recently added 2GB of new Cosair RAM. (Yes, the Dell 2400 REALLY DOES accept 2GB of ram. (1GB per slot. Buy faster mem chips than you need in case you upgrade your CPU as I decided to do.)
I bought this; Corsair Memory VS2GBKIT400C3 2 GB PC3200 400MHz 184-Pin DDR Desktop Memory Kit

***Seamless integration with my new Pentium 4 CPU running at 3.06 GHz. (I highly recommend this CPU for all Dell 2400 owners as it was one of the only two options originally offered by Dell. (I bought - Intel TRAY PENTIUM 4 3.06GHZ-HT 512K 533FSB S478 (RK80532PE083512 ) It installed very easily and booted up flawlessly right from the start. It's been perfect ever since. (Even though it was listed as "USED works like new.")
This new chip lifted my frame-rates to 24fps for film projects, and a full 30fps for standard Videos at BOTH Hulu and YouTube - Something I thought impossible for my Dell no matter how I upgraded it. (YAY! No more video hiccups and dropped frames!)

#2 After the installation of the new CPU, I only saw a bit of an improvement in frame rates etc., but eventually I had to shut down for one thing or another, and when I booted up again, the first time I got on-line I noticed some activity that worried me a bit. Shortly after, I realized that the Invidia card was still on "Auto Update," and had already installed an updated driver and whatever else it seemed to think I needed. Ordinarily this would have upset me a bit, but when I saw the incredible improvements, I bit my lip and simply enjoyed myself. It was only after that automatic update that I saw the framerates lift to 24 and 30 for film and video (respectively.)

#3 If you have a slow old Dell like mine, I INSIST that you sell your sister, your car and maybe even your toilet to get a few bucks together and make the improvements I did. The RAM, and CPU are NOT that expensive, and even the LED Flatscreen I bought was only $140 here at Amazon (What an incredible monitor.) Those three additions together, pulled me away from even considering a whole new machine. I'm going to be happy for 3 to 5 years at least! (Although I must admit that I am NOT a game-player, so playing the latest games at full speed isn't important to me.)

I apologize for the lengthy review, but it took me quite a while to discover all this stuff, and I figure that anybody interested in this NVidia card has got an old machine with PCI slots and not the newer PCI-Express slots. For me, NVidea aimed this product straight at the older machine "target market," and in my opinion, they hit the bulls-eye. I could not possibly be any happier with this product. And with all the other changes, there isn't anything my system does that doesn't happen in a blink of the eye! Boot up is faster, my desktop icons flash across the screen in an instant, and even my hard-drive activity has increased in speed.
For those who are interested, in all my searching, I discovered that the single most important change I made was the P4 CPU chip. In several forums, I found the the L2 Cache it featured, (512 KB,) was much more powerful than what the Celeron chip had. This cache deals with core instruction sets and since it does this work right on the chip, the large size of the cache has a huge and immediate effect on the overall performance of the machine. I proved this out for myself, which was why I let myself buy a USED CPU chip. (My thinking was, that a used CPU, might possibly have fewer hours on it than my old Celeron chip.) Besides, these P4s are becoming more and more rare each day. (Get yours now!)

I would recommend the Sparkle GeForce 8400GS to anybody with an older machine with standard PCI slots. If it added a burden to my puny Power-Supply, I don't seem to notice it so far. (Registered Temperatures are still well within acceptable specs.) The provided driver and included software seems to deal with all the expected problems one might expect with such a powerful upgrade. (A damned miracle IMO.)
I highly suggest the other upgrades too, but make sure you do your homework. Verify what I have discovered, and follow any and all tips when it comes to installation. (Like fresh new thermal-paste if you upgrade your CPU.)
Happy Holidays!

I bought this as a second video drive for a two-monitor setup (thus the fact that this card installs into a PCI slot was good for me because the other card is the AVI slot). The card seemed to have good reviews, a modest price, enough onboard memory, and, especially attractive, it avoids need for another humming little fan by using lots of big heat sinks.

Installation was simple. Follow their instructions. It's basically: Install the drivers. Insert the card in the slot. restart the computer.

The downside of the "silent" feature of the card is that the heatsink sticks out a lot. The card is so fat that it basically covers two PCI slots. It's not an issue in my particular setup because I don't currently need that slot. There may be enough space to cram it in the end slot where the heat sink might actually be touching the computer case.

The video output seems just fine for internet, office applications, and email. I'm not a gamer, however.

I bought this to upgrade an older computer that had no graphics slot, so that I could use a wide-screen monitor that the integrated graphics could not support. It works well for that to some extent; the options are good, the image is great. However, it is very slow, I think actually this is a limitation of the PCI slot. However, the thing that is the most aggravating is that it frequently blanks out entirely, leaving you with a black screen. It will usually return after a few seconds, but most web pages will not return completely, until you mouse-over all the elements. The easiest way to get the screen back is to switch windows, and then switch back. This becomes very irritating after a few times, and you are left sitting waiting for it to decide to refresh. I don't know whether there is any way to satisfactorily upgrade your graphics if all you have is a PCI slot, but biting the bullet and getting a new PC is preferable to this.

I plugged in this card to my PCI slot on my old nforce 630i motherboard and all I have been able to do was 640x480 video via HDMI. Connecting VGA did not work and I did not have DVI cable to test the DVI output.

Problems: The drivers - I did the usual plugging card in + disable onboard video + install drivers = did not work for me. Device manager shows that there isn't enough resources to use this device and it does not detect this card as a graphics card but a PCI - PCI card.

I've tried every possible solution I could find online - Removed all my other PCI card / Removed all video card driver / Restart in safe mode and install driver = resulted in the same error as before but this time after installing my other PCI card - they had the same error and would not work.

There are some registry hack you can find online and those were unsuccessful as well. Another user reported his windows rating was around 2.6 after installing this card - my rating for video is 3.3 with onboard graphic so maybe windows did not want to use this card since it would have been lower? Or I could have had a defective card (since VGA D sub would not work).

The only thing I did not try was clean install of windows 7. I strongly believe that would have resulted in more problems.

I ordered the Galaxy GT420 overnighted it - installed the next day - and it worked flawlessly! The other PCI cards that were not working after installing this card - was now working perfectly.

I would not recommend this card to anyone. Also keep in mind this card takes two slots because of the huge heat sink. If you do buy this card - get it from Amazon so you can return it after you loose your battle with your computer.
