Overall running this with Windows XP Pro (can be run with Vista, Win7, etc) has seen a huge jump in the signal strength.

Currently in our town there's a free Wifi which I can barely get with the USB wireless thumb drive at 20% signal strength. With the large 9dB antenna attached that number jumped to 80%. Unfortunately the connection on the Wifi itself is weak so it's not the antenna I'm finding out. The 1 watt booster is pretty amazing to say the leas.

The unit's design is simple but with the 9dB antenna it sits on the bottom portion of the antenna due to the weight making the base unit completely off balance. Nothing that a simple zip tie or even a tape that can't fix of course. That's the only issue but it may not be a big factor for most.

It did recognize few additional Wifi in the area even though we are somewhat in a remote side of town. All signal strength is 78%+.

If you're networking within a house and need signal across/above/below the house this will surely boost the signal. With 'clear' line of sight I'm sure this can pickup outside Wifi quite far. My house is only 500ft line of sight away from the office but the actual terrain and two buildings seems to block every signal. I'll have to play around with the router to see if I can pick up even a faint signal and go from there.

I've done extensive research on Wifi boosting including receiving/transmitting products and this is probably by far the best bang for the buck! Other sites I've seen charge as much as $50~$60 easily. The antenna that's on this is the same type that connects external antennas on many of the routers on the market.

What really makes difference is the power generated; a simple antenna won't help you to gain or improve your signal so another reason why this product is very superior for the price.

Software is simple to install, I had everything plugged in including the USB cord, installed and restarted per the software instruction. If there are routers you can connect to especially non-secured Wifi the software will connect to that network automatically. Otherwise the connection is simply done by double clicking on the network and entering the password.

We have a good friend moving next door so I know we'll probably hook them up with free Wifi from our house with this product again!

See on attempt toward using the alpha wifi booster because my c.crane super wifi booster 3 could NOT work with windows 10 and had much weekend signal then this alpha. When using my windows 8 laptop the c.crane dropped signal off and on if it was close not acutally...I would have to be so close that my laptop picked up 1 bar of signal by the time the c.crane could grab a show able 3 bar working connection. This alpha...with the panel antanna is a BEAST same laptops, same wifi connection. Literally tested 5 times stronger, more reliable wifi with no signal drops. My last alpha broke to pieces under the weight of the 9bd antanna, antanna broke I taped it, then one day I tilted the old alpha on the window and the piece the antanna attaches to complete snapped off the unit. The new one I got with the panel antanna is amazing, lighter, and pulls data much faster. and WOEKS with windows 10 and 8 smooth and flawlessly. I love the panel antanna if it's pointing toward the wifi source it's easily the strongest out there.

Problems in Windows 8.1

I don't know if this review should be for Windows or Alfa Network Adapter; anyway, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I've had a lot of trouble with the adapter dropping the internet connection at random. I've tried a LOT of possible solutions. From "waking the adapter" (not letting the computer shut off the antenna), netsh int ip reset, heuristics, auto tuning, changing the drivers (using the previous manufacturer working drivers), checking the ip, checking the dns, changing the routers channels (checking for signal interference), uninstalling antivirus software (sometimes that is the problem), allowing metered connections, and so on and so forth, and still... the antenna keeps dropping the internet connection. It is not a hardware problem either, the antenna works perfectly on Windows XP, Windows 7 and even on Windows 8, but not 8.1. I think the manufacturer should take a more active stance supporting their products on the newest os iterations. As for Windows... they keep beating around the bush, and not really addressing this persistent problem. On the microsoft site is not even clear (last time I checked) if this antenna is Windows 8.1 or not compatible. So as of now I would skip this adapter for Windows 8.1, and you may even risk it not working on Windows 8 properly either. That's your call. To be honest one last and obvious resort would be to do a clean install of the operating system to see if that solves the problem; I haven't though since I downloaded Windows 8 as an update for W7 and then updated to W8.1 (terrible mistake on my part) and I'm figuring out that part (I may have to buy the full installation software).
All that said, when this antenna is working it is truly amazing, and this is actually the second one I've bought (the first one it's been working great on another system for quite some time now; yes I tried that antenna too, and no it doesn't work on Windows 8.1 either).
Please Alfa Network give us more support with your products!!
Microsoft... shame on you!! You untested product rusher money eating monster!!
