Perfect for the keychain.

I've always carried around a USB flash drive on my key chain since there are files that would like to have with me at all times. I really like the Supertalent Pico-C devices because of their very small size and tremendous durability. However, I also have microSDHC cards in my phone and Android tablet, and I would like to have the ability to access those memory devices at a regular computer.
Rather than carry around a separate card reader, I've been looking for quite a while for a USB microSDHC card reader that is small, durable, and capable of being attached to a key chain. The final requirement is that the microSDHC chip must stay reliably seated in the device when being carried around.
This device fits those requirements completely. It is very small and light, and you don't even notice it on your key chain. The cap stays securely attached even when jostling around in your pocket, and the microSDHC chip stays firmly seated as well. Note that this device will also allow you to read the larger microSDXC 64GB chips as well, so the storage capability is absolutely tremendous for the size.
One thing that I would point out that is a very minor negative is that the device comes with one of those goofy string-like key chain connectors, but it was easy to remove that and just attach the split ring directly to the device and throw away the string.

I can't believe these things aren't flying off the shelves!! Much better than any USB stick. When a USB stick fails it's either the memory chip or the controller, so you end up throwing the whole thing away. With this type of setup if the controller fails you can just remove the memory stick and use another controller or a micro-SD to standard SD adapter to gain access to your data again. Cuts your chances in half of losing files. Just read the other reviews, they all say everything I would say about this little gizmo. Someone mentioned that the blue light doesn't blink when data is written or read to/from the device, this is only partially correct - it actually flashes rapidly. With a class 6 memory stick it flashes VERY rapidly, hard to notice, but it does. I would prefer the light stay off unless it's being accessed. Someone else mentioned the memory stick was hard to get in and out - Well, yeah at first I wasn't sure which way to insert the card, so be careful. Be sure to insert it into the thinner slot face up with the yellow button face up. And push the yellow button to "eject" the card when you need to.

Faster than my USB 2.0 adapter; but speed is also limited by the microSD card's capabilities. The microSD cards fit very snug (perfect). The mini USB OTG adapter fits very snug as well (perfect) and works well with my Samsung Note4. I ordered two: one for my 64GB exFAT and one for my 32GB FAT32 (for OS installs/live USB). Had a SD card case (pictured) that holds the parts perfect.

Yes, as others have surely stated, it's not going to last forever (does anything really?), but if you're looking for one that's built well, is super-compact and minimizes keychain clutter, then this is the one you're looking for. I've tried 4 or 5 different keychain adapters like this from different manufacturers (Dane-Elec, SanDisk, and 2 or 3 Chinese varieties from eBay), and none of them stand up as well as this one. The SanDisk adapter comes in close second, but the Kingston is smaller and more compact, which, despite its smaller size, still allows the micro SD to sit fully flush with the adapter, meaning the card doesn't protrude from the slot (check the photo I took).
Buy two or three of them if you're THAT concerned with durability. At $4 a pop and a two-year warranty, it's not really worth debating over.
The shape of the adapter means that it is possible to insert it into a USB port upside-down, but in a worst-case scenario, that's not going to harm anything. Just unplug it, and re-insert it right-side-up. Money..

I have been using several USB 2.0 card readers in the past, including the [[ASIN:B0011EAYO6 Transcend M5 Multi-Card Reader]] and [[ASIN:B002PX99D4 Sandisk Mobilemate SD Plus Memory Card Reader]]. With memory cards getting faster over the years, I started to get the feeling that my old card readers are limiting the Read/Write speed of my newer memory cards. That's why I purchased this [[ASIN:B009D79VH4 Transcend Information USB 3.0 Card Reader (TS-RDF5K)]] just to try it out, even through all my computers only have USB 2.0 ports.
Upon arrival of the RDF5, I benchmarked over one dozen of my SDHC and microSDHC memory cards, with speed rating from class-4 to class-10 and UHS-1. The program I used is called "CrystalDiskMark v3.01 x64". It reports, among other things, sequential READ and WRITE speed of memory cards. To my surprise, several of my fastest cards showed about 50% improvement in Read/Write speed compared to when using the old M5 card reader.
As an example: for the [[ASIN:B007X7U224 HP CG790A-AZ 32 GB Flash Memory Card Class 10 SDHC]] I was previously getting 19.6MB/s in Write and 20.1MB/s in Read. But when used with the RDF5, its throughput jumped 50% to 29.7 and 34.8MB/s, respectively. The [[ASIN:B008CVHLT2 Transcend 32 GB Class 10 UHS Flash Memory Card TS32GSDHC10U1E]] also shows nearly identical improvement.
The above proves that using old card reader was the bottleneck for my fastest cards. On the other hand, improvements for my slower cards were less noticeable, typically around 5% or less. That include [[ASIN:B004TS1IG4 Kingston class-4 SD10G2/16GB]], [[ASIN:B001ECQVTM Transcend Class 6 TS16GSDHC6E]], etc. See the summary of benchmark results I uploaded to 'Customer Images' section for details.
The only negative about this RDF5 card reader is that: it does not allow simultaneous usage of both SDHC and microSDHC slots. That is, you can only insert one card at a time, but never both.
Conclusion:
I am very happy with the dramatic improvement I can achieve with this card reader, even when it is connected to an USB 2.0 port. Once I upgrade to a new computer with USB 3.0 ports, I expect the benchmark results to be even better - at least for my fastest cards. In the mean time, I consider this card reader the cheapest computer upgrade I can recommend.
[Update on Dec 26, 2013]
I finally have a computer with USB 3.0 port, so I re-tested ~10 memory cards to see the difference.
- For any card marketed as 'UHS-1', I observed huge improvements in both Read and Write speeds.
- For any card marketed as 'class 10' but not UHS, I may see some increase in Read, but very little difference in Wrire.
Bottom Line: If you have an UHS-1 card, make sure to use the RDF5 card reader in conjunction with USB 3.0 port, in order to get the full benefit.

TL;DR: Rocketek makes great USB 3.0 card readers!
Rocketek produces several card readers that look alike, but don't necessarily behave alike. The models I will be covering are the RT-CR2, RT-CR3A, RT-CR5 and RT-CR6 USB 3.0 memory card readers. If you read the Q & A sections for these card readers you will find that more than one person has asked if they can use 2 cards at once, and the answers were, yes, no, yes, no, yes, no ...??? So here is the info on these models that will clear up the confusion.
The RT-CR2, CR3A and CR6 all look nearly identical. They all have a rotating USB plug cover and a door at the end that covers a MicroSD and full size SD slot pair. The CR2 has an additional pair of slots on the side (4 slots total on the CR2). All three of these models are a little bulky and will likely block adjacent USB ports if they are close together.
[[ASIN:B00GVRHON2 Rocketek RT-CR2]]:
With the RT-CR2 you can use 2 cards at once if you put one in a side slot and the other in a rear slot (under the door). It will appear to your computer as 2 card readers, and Windows will assign each card its own drive letter. In spite of it having 4 slots in total, you cannot use more than 2 cards at once. Think of each SD+MicroSD slot pair as a single slot that will accept either a full size or micro size SD card. The CR2 is the most versatile, because you can use any combination of 2 cards without any additional adapters (SD+SD, SD+Micro, Micro+Micro).
[[ASIN:B00IX9ZDKC Rocketek RT-CR3A]]:
The RT-CR3A looks like a CR2 with rounded shoulders, and without the additional side slots. It has the SD+MicroSD slot pair under the door, but you can only use 1 card (slot) at a time. Like the CR2, both slots are wired in parallel, so they are really just a single slot that can accept either size card. Your computer will only see a single card reader, and will only assign a single drive letter.
[[ASIN:B00SQRIXYO Rocketek RT-CR6]]:
The RT-CR6 looks exactly like the CR3A, but the slots are not wired in parallel, so you can use both at once. Your computer will see 2 card readers, and Windows will assign each card its own drive letter. It's not as versatile as the CR2 because it can only pair a full size SD and a MicroSD card, or 2 MicroSD cards with one card in a full size SD adapter. The CR2 can also do 2 full size SD cards, and doesn't require an adapter for a second MicroSD card. The advantage of the CR6 over the CR2 is that it's a little thinner (10mm/0.4" vs 15mm/0.6") and a little less expensive (the price difference was only 30 cents at the time of this review).
[[ASIN:B00PBOHAR6 Rocketek RT-CR5]]:
The RT-CR5 is a smaller card reader which functions like the CR3A. It has one full size SD card slot on the side, and one MicroSD card slot at the rear under the door. Like the CR3A, you can only use a single card at a time, but the CR5 is much slimmer than the others so it will fit into closely spaced USB ports without blocking access to adjacent ports. Do note that you can only fit a MicroSD card under the cover. A full size SD card will stick out one side, so when using a full size card, it might interfere with another USB port on that side (of course if you put the CR5 into that port it won't be a problem).
I personally own the RT-CR2 and the RT-CR5, and they are both amazing card readers. They have very fast read/write speeds that seem to only be limited by the SD card itself. Of course you will need a fast SD card to see fast speeds (no card reader can miraculously make a slow card fast).
When I used CrystalDiskMark to test a Samsung Pro MicroSD card in the Rocketek, I got read speeds of nearly 90MB/second and write speeds of nearly 80MB/second. That's what the manufacturer rates the card at, so I have yet to find an SD card fast enough to see the limit of the Rocketek. In fact, the scores with the Samsung Pro card in the Rocketek USB 3.0 reader were slightly higher than the same card in my computer's built-in SD card slot!
Even when used on USB 2.0 ports these card readers perform well, they are faster than any USB 2.0 card reader I have tested.
Other than the somewhat bulky size of the RT-CR2 (necessary for its versatility), my only other gripe is that the rotating USB plug cover is too loose and doesn't offer much protection. The rotating cover on the smaller RT-CR5 is much firmer and has stronger detents, so it actually does offer some protection.
When I purchased the RT-CR2 a few years back I was dealing mostly with full size SD cards, and only occasionally with MicroSD cards. The RT-CR2 was the best choice for its versatility. Now I find myself in the opposite situation. I'm dealing almost exclusively with MicroSD cards, and rarely with full size SD cards. So I purchased the slimmer RT-CR5 and I’m loving the smaller form factor. It fits into closely spaced USB ports, even when the other ports are populated with USB cables, wireless dongles and whatnot. I still use the CR2 when I need to copy data from one card to another, but the Rocketek RT-CR5 is my new go-to card reader of choice!

One final note on compatibility. I have used these card readers on multiple Intel x86/x86-64 Windows and Linux machines in both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, and on the USB 2.0 ports of the ARM based Raspberry Pi running Raspbian Linux, and even on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android phone using a small OTG adapter (Rocketek even sells the [[ASIN:B01L77YG7W RT-CR5A]] for a dollar more, which is a CR5 with an OTG adapter included).
They just seem to work with everything.
