As you advance, you're steadily introduced to more involved puzzles, and while you could simply click through the smaller numbers in each box until you hit the solution, I like to start by filling in the equal sign boxes and then using logic to arrive at most of the rest. If you get stumped, then the smaller numbers offer a way out. Yet, take the hard way and give your brain as good a workout as walking gives your body!

It wouldn't work on my computer. It looks like a cool game, though. I somehow got a samlple of it prior to buying it, and that was a good logic game.

Could not get this to install on Apple OS 10. Maybe it was my error for buying it in the first place. Perhaps PC only? So, I gave it to Goodwill.

As someone who's addicted to KenKen in real life, I was intrigued at the prospect of a computer version of the game that brought more to the table than standard math. Square Logic delivers the goods...almost.

First, the good stuff. Gameplay is RIDICULOUSLY addicting. In fact, I wouldn't start playing this if you have anywhere to be in the next several hours--it's just that addicting. "Just one more puzzle" has kept me up into the wee hours. Be warned--this game will draw you in.

Graphics are minimal, but pretty. It's a number puzzle, so it doesn't need to push a lot of polygons. What I will say is that the choice of colors in each region go brilliantly with the region's theme. So in Canyon, there are a lot of bricks, and tans, and an occasional violet; in Forest, there are a lot of greens and browns. The Sky region is themed on a sunset, and it's a feast of color. The program does not use every color in every puzzle, so every puzzle looks different: your eyes won't get tired of looking at this game.

Nor will you get tired of the puzzle types. You don't need to solve many puzzles to open new areas, which have different challenges (hidden cages, double boards, huge "comparison" cages, double boards with hidden cages...you get the idea.) And once you think you've seen it all in each region, the puzzles get bigger and involve more numbers in the next one.

The hint system is absolutely ingenious. It will usually give you just enough information on one tiny hint to make you say, "Oh! I get it!" and get you solving more squares. The only exception I've run into with this is when you get comparison cages that cover most of the board. Sometimes, the first hint will be, "Look in this cage," and it's the huge comparison cage. Well, duh, that's what I'm doing; next hint? Other than that, though, the hint system will give you just enough of a hint to get moving again.

And the soundtrack. Oh, that soundtrack. Wow. It manages to do the impossible: memorable minimalism. As with the graphics, each track fits the theme of the region. I'm not sure how long the themes are, and I don't care--they just sound so pretty I could keep listening to them for hours on end. Headphones make it sound even better. If I have one complaint about the soundtrack, it's that it can be EXTREMELY hypnotic.

Now, the bad stuff--the part where I have to dock a star even though I think the game really is a must-own, 5-star experience. The game has an achievement system, but parts of it don't seem to be working correctly: I sometimes don't seem to get credit for certain categories of puzzles, even though I know I've solved them. I've even gotten gold stars, showing completed locations, and not gotten the achievement for completing all puzzles in a location.

Also, you're given ranks for unlocking new areas, but you'll only know it once: the game doesn't list your current rank, even in your Achievements screen, despite some screen shots suggesting otherwise.

And finally, there are some hidden-cage boards where more than one multiplication cage could own the same "1" square. You don't need to get the cages correct to pass the puzzle, but I think this may be why the game says I haven't solved that many hidden cage puzzles. I'm not sure about that, however.

Those are all minor annoyances, though: I rarely look at my Achievements page, and I personally don't care if this "1" ended up in the wrong multiplication cage. The game is still monstrously addicting, and keeps me solving puzzles for hours on end. But I can't give a 5-star review to a game that doesn't quite seem to be as polished as it should be.

Whole-heartedly recommended, just as long as you don't get hung up on the Achievement page.

This game is fantastic. I have this game on my computer and my nieces and nephews 6 and up love playing this. It is a fun way to get young and old interested in math and logical thinking. My nephew loved the game so much I bought it for his birthday.

Picked this up because my son at 8 has recently discovered mathdoku puzzles. SquareLogic is a great way to develop logical reasoning skills, while reinforcing basic math skills.

The game is beautiful and relaxing, with excellent sound and visuals. Really easy to jump in and play.
