This is a bus-powered extension cable that can be used to increase the length of a device without any signal loss or potential performance problems. It contains active electronics, which boost the USB signal for maximum reliability and performance over extended distances. The cable operates as self-powered extender, for use with USB cameras‚ printers‚ webcams‚ keyboard/mouse, etc.

It is a true plug-and-play device. No additional drivers are required. It supports Win98/2000/XP/Vista/7, Mac OS V9.0 or higher, and Linux. It can also be used with many types of USB devices, including the Xbox Kinect* and the Eye of the PS3 Move!

Important notes for Kinect users:
1. You can use this cable to connect the USB version of the Kinect only. It is not compatible with the proprietary Kinect connector. If you have a Kinect connector, please use PID 8487.

2. The Kinect requires more power than traditional USB ports are capable of providing. In order to prevent damage to equipment, Microsoft has designed the Kinect with a proprietary connector. If your Kinect did not come with a USB/Power adapter, you must purchase one from Microsoft before you can use this extension cable.

Review of MonoPrice MP-CA3020U USB 2.0 Extension Cable - 10 meter

Solved the problem. Previously I had 30+ feet of passive USB cables connecting a Brother multifunction laser to a desktop PC. The printer function always worked reliably but the scanner function was sensitive to which PC USB port was used (Asus P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard). When I replaced that PC, none of the USB ports on the new desktop PC allowed the scanner function to work (Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard). This active USB extension cable solved the problem.

Just plugged it in and it worked. No hassle. XP 32-bit.

This is the second extension cable from 2 different sellers, brands I have bought on Amazon. My Microsoft webcam worked perfect in windows 7 and 8 solo and with the cable.
In the past using a HP computer 8.1, the cables did not work. Video shows how it looked in the past before this problem was fixed. I tried everything and still did not work until recently.

Now in Jan, 2015 I bought a different brand of computer with newest 8.1, did a few uninstall, reinstall; Now the cable works and the video is perfect! I can use the webcam, cable with HD highest resolution... and is nice and clear, fast.

It also works very well for audio using a old mic I bought at the thrift store or any mic.

Also; trying different ports to plug in the cable helped and it seems Microsoft updated the cord software, driver.

So; if you get the problem I show in the video; try a few different setups, upgrades... There is something new out there that fixed this problem. Or I 'aint too computer savvy' and missed something in the past.

Extended my router range

Bought this cable in order to place my USB net adapter in a better location. My computer is in a different building from my Verizon Actiontech router at the house, about 150 feet away. Even through timber-frame walls & a garage door, this arrangement has worked well for me. Without it, my connection was terrible, unusable, but now it's stable & works fine because I can move it to any location, right out the building if I wanted to. And there's no noticeable loss because of cable length as it's an active extension. A nifty solution if you're having router connection-distance issues.

Successful Kinect Extension!

There has been some recent debate regarding the ability to use this with the Kinect for an extension, rather than paying $50 for a slightly longer cable. Let me settle it by saying **this extension works flawlessly**. I bought the Kinect sensor by itself, rather with the X-Box 360 slim as a kit. When you buy the Kinect by itself, you will have a cord that has an AC-adapter, kinect plug-in (female), and a USB-plug in (male).

How to make it work:
1. Plug this USB cable extension into your X-Box 360 (I used the front port, but any should work).
2. Plug the AC adapter from the Kinect-conversion cable into the wall
3. Connect the USB extension to the Kinect-conversion cable.
4. Plug the male end of the Kinect cable into the conversion-cable.
5. Power on your X-Box and you should see a message indicating that it has been detected.

After all of my trials, I cannot see a latency issue between using the USB 2.0 extension cable and plugging the Kinect directly into the X-Box 360. Although there is bound to be a few differences in speed, it is CERTAINLY not an issue for any games you'll be playing. There will be a little bit of a lag issue, but that is due to the insane amount of processing that must be done to determine where you are standing relative to the game. This works perfectly!

Excellent cable; heavy duty, quality construction.

I'm impressed by the heavy gauge construction and durability of this cable. A 32ft usb cable is not a good item to skimp on wire size or sheathing and even with the long length, this cable seems to have excellent connectibility so far.

The specification stamped on the cable is 28AWGX1P+20AWGX2C, which means it utilizes 28AWG wire for the two signal wires (green and white), which is adequate; then they use heavier 20AWG wire for the power wires (red and black), which reduces voltage drop.

Even with the 32ft length, the manufacturer states it is USB 2.0 compliant with a 480mps transfer rate and built in amplifier chipset (at the female end). I haven't tried streaming video with it, but it works perfectly for my applications and for the money it's a great value.

The best option to tethering from your camera to laptop

I was looking to buy a cable to shoot tethering with my Canon 5D MII and I looked at different options, Male A to min Male B, etc.

So, I thought why not buy an USB extension, that can server multiple purposes.

I ordered, received fast and without any problem/damage (kudos Amazon) , then I try it using the camera, Macbook Pro (Lion), Adobe and Canon Utility. So I insert the orignal cable into my camera then the other USB male into the female part of the new cable. After that is was just to plug it into the computer and all the software detected the camera. It worked like a charmed.

I will recommend this to anyone.

Don't be fooled with the picture, it looks like a huge, heavy cable, it is not. It came in one of those plastic wrapping (easy to open without any tool) the size like you expect from a cell phone.

The cable can be tucked away really easy.

Works better than advertised.

I have two of these connected and run under the house. The two cables will connect our office PC to misc. devices (IR receiver, bluetooth adapter, xbox360 controller receiver, etc) in our media closet via a powered USB hub. To test without the hub I plugged my iphone into the end in the closet and an old laptop into the other end. While it wouldn't charge the iphone (a message popped up saying it could not), it was able to transfer data at normal rates across the 2 USB extension cables.

Using a powered USB hub on the other end ensures that there are 0 problems over 1, 2, or 3 of these cables.

These are a great find for people who want to put webcams on their TV, place older printers farther away from computers, etc. Just remember that a powered hub on one end may be required for power hungry devices and extra long runs.
