This item does NOT work with the newest iPhone headsets or other modern headsets designed to work with the iPhone 4. I assume it would work with other brands but I have yet to try it, and probably won't waste my time with this anymore.

I bought this in order to use my Beats by Dr. Dre with my desktop PC. It doesn't work at all for this. A while back, Apple moved from the one-button scheme on the headphones which would play/pause or answer a call to the current one which has the play/pause button plus the volume controls. Apple had to pull some black magic over the mic line to get all three of these controls to work, and the result of it all is that the Apple headphones with volume won't work with any other devices (Droids, etc) as well as this adapter.

In short: If you have an iPhone 4 and want to use this with your headset for it - Don't buy. It won't work.

I came to Afghanistan expecting to use my personal laptop for skyping. When that didn't happen, I needed a headset with separate plugs for input and output and all I had were a set of headphones that came with my Google Nexus One. After looking at several expensive headsets I saw this splitter that would allow me to use my current gear with the computer equipment available to me for a fraction of the price. The adapter works great with crisp, clear sound both on the in and out, though I suspect this will vary based on what hardware you use along with it. It shipped and arrived promptly, so I am overall quite happy with the purchase.

I plugged a SteelSeries Siberia V2 (for apple version) into this to get it to work on a PC.

I get sound out of both cups, but the mic isn't working. That could be because I have it plugged into the front port on my PC or it could be because of the Headset Buddy or it could be because of a driver setting. I'll do some more fiddling and testing to see since another person said he got his to work ok. Until then I'll give it an OK rating since it did at least give me sound.

If I get the mic to work then I'll give it 4 or 5 stars.

Nope, does not work. The headphone part works but the mic does not. I connected it to a frogz headphone/mic combo I use regularly with my android phone. And you'll have to pay for return shipping if it doesn't work, so think twice before you buy. (With 51 five-star reviews and 11 four-star reviews, I thought I'd be safe. Shoulda considered the other 34 mediocre to bad reviews... *sigh*)

Love it. Use it on my Bose 15 quiet headphones and it works fabulous. We went to the business communications softphone at work and the softphone headset worked fine, but was not a quiet headphone and allowed tons of surrounding noise. This simple little device allows me to use my Bose headphones in place of the work headset, but still work with the softphone. It has saved my sanity and probably the lives of people working around me!!!!!!!
