UNBELIEVABLE! Of all the micro USB cables I've purchased from OEM to eBay, my five AmazonBasics cables are the ONLY ones that still work! They've been through 2.5 years of abuse! Now I just wish these came in longer lengths so I could buy more of them.
When you hear "you get what you pay for" - it's true. I've wasted more than enough money on $1 cables to justify the purchase of these ones even at the current price.
------------
I bought 5 of these micro USB cables on pre-order back in October 2010, since I was sick of flimsy ebay cables, and even my OEM HTC Evo cable had failed. These have held up against daily use at home, work, and even being stepped on in the car (for my car charger). I keep extras in by bags so I always have one.
The squishy Amazon Basics label seemed cheesy, but it's durable and makes it very easy to identify which side goes up (compared to the usual usb symbol).
The spring-loaded retention hooks are holding up well too. My other cables all stopped holding on to my device after a month.
Only things I would change are:
Make the micro-end of the cable a little more sleek. Huge box looks cheap (but maybe that's why this is more durable than the other cables I've used - don't sacrifice that).
Don't waste a box on every single cable. Seriously... I ended up receiving an enormous Amazon box with 5 of these smaller (but still way too big) boxes in it. The usual plastic bag would have been just fine. If you want to make it frustration free, ship it in a ziploc bag. But even that would be a waste of money/resources, IMO.
The current price of $5.48: Ouch. Despite how good this cable is, I wouldn't pay more than half that (and I didn't when I pre-ordered).
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2011Update:
After several months 2 of the 3 cables I was using went bad and stopped charging my phone. My daughters phone also uses micro-USB and also did not work for charging except for the 1 cable that was still working. So, I was able to confirm it is not just a problem with my phone charging port. The one that kept on working is still working over a year later.
So I'm reducing my review to 1 star. Reliability is above everything else in a basic utility type of product like this. I paid more to ensure I had a quality product. It's unfortunate that was wrong, and on the Amazon name as well.

Original Review:
I bought several of these cables, primarily for charging, but also for data transfer via USB to computers. I've been using them daily for charging at home, in my car, and on the go (I pack one with my laptop so I can charge in a pinch). I mostly pair them with general wall or cigarette lighter plug-in USB chargers, though obviously they can be used with normal USB ports as well. The new USB-3 ports that are 'always on' regardless of whether the computer is on or awake are especially useful.
My family uses these cables on multiple phones in our house that have the Micro B USB connectors. I can't comment on the data transfer capability with my wife's or daughter's phones, but it works fine with my LG Optima Android phone, so it has the additional wires required for this function (not just the power wires).
While it's a bit more expensive then some of the other wires out there, it was worth paying a little premium to guarantee good build quality and a product that will work out of the box every time. The quality of the cable and connectors is easy to see and feel, while not being so bulky it gets difficult to bend into the positions you want for laying your phone down while it charges.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2013I bought this 6 foot cable specifically to power my Revision B Raspberry Pi, along with an "Amazon Basics Wall Charger with USB Outlet (2.1 Amp Output)" supply. But the voltage measured on the GertBoard extension board I have (same as the voltage across TP1 and TP2 on the Pi) reads only 4.55V using this cable. Even though this is a nice cable using gold plated contacts, it has stamped right on it "<28 AWG/1P AND 28AWG/2C>. This indicates that ALL the wires within the cable, both for power and data, are 28AWG wires.
Some USB cables, including the 3 foot cable that ships with the CanaKit version of the Pi, which sells here on Amazon, have the following marking : "28AWG/1P + 24AWG/2C". These cables use 24AWG wires to carry the power in the cable. This heavier gauge wire is one reason why the Pi will get the full 5V through such a cable, as there is less 'line loss' than when a smaller gauge wire is used.
I wanted a 6 foot cable because of the distance from where I use the Pi to where I want to keep the outlet strip supplying its power. Since I wanted to allow my Pi to have as close to 5V as possible using a standard 5V wall charger such as the one I mentioned above, I had to hack one of my USB A to micro B cables and replace 6 feet of its core cable with 18 AWG red/black "zip cord", using only about 3" of existing cable on the connector for each end. The hacked cable was a cheap Chinese one, which has wire at the most 28 AWG and it might even be finer than that (it is unmarked). But I am still able to maintain 4.88 - 4.92V on the Pi using this hacked cable.
So if you are looking to power a Raspberry Pi with this 6 foot Amazon Basics cable, as some other reviewers have mentioned doing, be aware that you may see a loss of half a volt on the Pi end. The Pi's input power specs are 4.75-5.25V, so losing half a volt puts it below specs and 'could' possibly be the cause of unstable operation. I have experienced this, which is what started my quest for a better cable. I was seeing a lot of "waiting for hardware interrupt" errors on boot up, and it would never finish the boot process. Getting the voltage back within specs seems to have solved the problem for me.

juan carlosReviewed in Spain on November 4, 20145.0 out of 5 stars Buen cable
okiReviewed in Japan on January 14, 20145.0 out of 5 stars Nice cable
Works for what I need it for to charge my hp slate. the gold plating is a plus and the long length lets me sit on the sofa charging and reading my tablet. Only had it a few days so we will see how it does with constant use and over time.

Jan ZabadalReviewed in Germany on June 14, 20235.0 out of 5 stars Zuverlässige Verbindung
Mark McKayReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 27, 20155.0 out of 5 stars Great cable
One of the things you may find with modern USB-charged devices is that you need decent cables to get the full charge flowing through the device. For example, my Samsung Tab 2 and Tab 4 won't actually take a charge if it's through a generic cable that came with something like a rechargeable mouse, even though the connection is the same. The cables that come with them also tend to be too short for any practical use so having them plugged in to the wall and sitting on a sofa is generally not possible unless you have a socket directly beside the sofa.
I bought the USB cable along with the USB extension cable and was pleasantly surprised to see that both combined immediately allowed for the full charge to reach the Samsung tablets, so the Tab 2 could actually BE charged (it couldn't get a charge at all before unless I used a dedicated Samsung cable and wall adapter) and the Tab 4 charged in 50% of the time it took with the generic cables. Because it's also a decent enough cable to allow the trickle-charge, I'm also able to get an additional couple of hours from each charging cycle.
So far, I've used both cables combined to charge:
Samsung Tab 2
Samsung Tab 3
Samsung S5
KitSound Manhattan headphones
PlayStation 4 controller
BlackBerry Classic
All of which have charged perfectly, and have provided better battery performance than they did with generic non-branded cables.

fAZernERoReviewed in Italy on March 20, 20145.0 out of 5 stars OTTIMO CAVO USB
CONSIGLIATISSIMO
