From Hero to Zero and Back to Hero

I received the device last week and on day one, I loved it. It exceeded my expectations. Typing on it was a little better than what I do on my Blackberry Storm and the scrolling (while not perfect) was quite good. The back light was a terrific addition as I bought this to use in my theater room where often it is difficult to see much (other than the screen) which is why the back light was great in lighting up the keys.

Right out of the box, I tried using it on my office computer - worked like a champ. When I got home, I tried using it on my laptop which was connected to my home theater projector - again, worked like a champ. Then came the problem... the next day the unit became completely unresponsive. I tried all the trouble shooting that I could think of and read on the manufacturer's website but nothing fixed the issue. I even tried using it in different locations on several different computers and still no fix. What I find odd is that the back light is no longer working either. I know it's not a battery issue as this has been charged fully twice in an effort to troubleshoot and fix the problem. I also tried changing the rf but again, that didn't help.

Something that I found disappointing was the lack of support. If you go to the manufacturer's web site, you will understand precisely what I mean. This is the first thing that I can think of that the support was so lousy - not even a phone number to call!

I am going to try using another - I asked for a replacement because when this unit was working, I loved it (I was even thinking about ordering another one for work/office use). I will report back later as to what I find with the second device.

I received the replacement and wanted to wait a week before posting a follow-up to my review. The replacement keyboard is working like a charm! It works just like it should. I have tried using it in many different settings and on several computers. No matter where it is used, it picks up the signal very quickly and does what it is advertised. For my use, this is a fantastic keyboard. I use it in my theater room where I don't want a cumbersome full sized keyboard. Instead, I just take this out of the coffee table drawer and use.

I am rating this keyboard 5 stars because it does everything that was advertised and better than I expected (i.e. typing is really good on such a small device). I don't believe I should give it less than 5 stars just because I received a defective unit as that can happen with any product. While the support of the company is still not the best, the place that I bought it from was excellent! They shipped me the replacement immediately and even refunded my return shipping costs.

If backlit keys is a must, don't get the old models

First of all this little keyboard is great, however the model I ordered (FE01-GR) is NOT backlit. At one point I was certain these older models were available with backlighting. Unless there's some secret way to turn on backlighting? I'm a little disappointed on that end. I think only the newer models (FE02RF-BL & FE02BT-BL) are backlit now which are designed for FAVI Smart Stick. I'm not using this for a Smart Stick but for a Raspberry Pi. I don't really like the new models for their layout. That is why I chose the older model but I didn't know having lit-up keys was what I was sacrificing. FAVI your charts are all screwy. Label your products better to avoid this type of confusion.

Other than that the touchpad can be a little touchy at times. And also while typing sometimes there is a "stutter" (pesky for those sudo commands so I get something that looks like "uuuuudoooo" instead of "sudo") I think it has something to do with it going on stand by when not in use. As I said I mainly have been using it for the RasPi. I've used it a couple of times on my laptop too and didn't have any problems with the keys not responding (as far as I know, I've only used it with my laptop 2-3 times)

Anyway, overall not bad. Better than carrying a wireless mouse and keyboard with me anytime I go to a friend's house. But watching movies in the dark would be a little more convenient with backlit keys!

Update: Battery life is pretty good, It's lasted a little over a month on the same charge and is just now flashing the battery indicator.

I was looking for a mini BACKLIT keyboard. Of all the results, I settled for the Favi FE02, I didn't want a black one because it would be tough to find in a dim area. I chose the green model.
When it arrived, the keyboard worked just fine, but the backlight would not.
I checked my order & found it was the FE01 & was confused.
Then I found out why.

I brought up the FE02 page & everything was fine,
I clicked on the green option,,,,,,,,
And it changed the model from FE02 TO FE01

I always was a bit confused about the reviews on many items on Amazon,
Some seemed not to apply to the item I was interested in,
And they didn't.

Just beware of the reviews when there are multiple products on the page you are viewing.

Very happy with this keyboard/touchpad combo. It's tiny and of course takes a little longer to get data to your computer, but that's to be expected. I use this with a Raspberry Pi configured for a backyard movie set up. Works like a champ. The touchpad is a little slow on response and lacking in detailed movement, but I wouldn't expect much more from such a tiny active area. Does exactly what is needed to select things on screen when more convenient than just using the arrow keys.

I'm even happier with the support I received directly from FAVI. We lost the USB dongle after just a handful of uses in our backyard. I wrote asking for a way to purchase a replacement part. I was provided with an affordable option, but when they saw how recently I had purchased they went ahead and sent a replacement dongle free of charge. Very happy customer!
