Meditations and Discourses on the Glory of Christ - Enhanced Version Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 35 ratings

Meditations and Discourses on the Glory of Christ is a collection of discourses in which John Owen proclaims the glory of the Lord as it is revealed in Scripture. Owen states that because we are human, Christ's glory is, in a sense, incomprehensible to us--we can never fully grasp it. Fortunately, the Bible provides us with ample information to help us appreciate the glory of Christ and to guide us in our worship. Owen uses these discourses to expound upon the different types of glory that Christ exhibits: the glory of His love, the glory of His mystery, His glory as mediator, His glory in the church, and the glory of His eternal being. It is through Christ that our lowly nature is sanctified and our relationship with God is ultimately secured. Owen teaches Christians that nothing they do has any meaning outside of that which Christ anoints with His glory.

This book is absolutely fantastic. I would not suggest it for a 'speed reader' - however, for one who wants an 'in depth' study on the Glory of Christ - this is the answer!

Excellently done and worth reading a second time. Once again the early christian writers show their knowledge and reverence for God's founding principles.

If I could give this work 10 stars, I would. The ultimate meditation on the nature of the Redeemer from the consummate Puritan theologian. Wonderful!

If you're tired of a superficial walk with Christ, and feel there must be more to a relationship with God
than what you've experienced in the past, then "beholding the Glory of Christ" is medicine for the soul.
Hebrews 12:2 tells us to "look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith" lest we grow weary and faint.
In this book John Owen explains that meditating on the glory of Christ as revealed in both the Old and New
Testament should be the main mental focus of a believers life. It is through the beholding the glory of Christ that His grace is poured into our hearts and minds. Even though Owen was brilliant, he writes as a pastor and not an "ivory tower theologian". If you are growing weary, lukewarm, and need to restore "the joy of your salvation", then set down with this book and your bible in hand and allow His glory to fill you with "joy unspeakable and full of glory".

This copy appears to be Print on Demand. No chapter headings; no page numbers, there are paragraphs, but little else in terms of formatting. Very difficult to read.

Owen is Owen; so the information is there, but unpleasant to read such a poorly made reprint.

Try a different publisher; i'm returning this copy to try again.
