Godhood of God - Enhanced Version Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

A.W. Pink was an English evangelist of the 19th century. His Puritan and Calvinist background no doubt inspired him to write Godhood of God. These traditions emphasize the absolute power of God. "What is Godhood?" Pink asks. It is "the omnipotency of God, the absolute sovereignty of God. When we speak of the Godhood of God we affirm that God is God," he says. "We affirm that God is something more than an empty title: that God is something more than a mere figure-head: that God is something more than a far-distant spectator, looking helplessly on at the suffering which sin has wrought." Pink believes that Godhood is seen in creation, administration, the giving of scriptures, and salvation, and he writes a brief chapter on each aspect. This book is very short and easily understandable for readers of any level. The piece emphasizes God's dominion over all other powers and things of the world, which is comforting to modern believers. It also encourages Christians to remember not only God's love, but his other nature as the all-powerful ruler of the universe who should be revered.

When A.W.Pink wrote this on one God's attributes it was five decades after Darwin's theory of evolution was starting to become influential in academic circles.Darwin's hypothesis excluded God from the realm of creation.Pink observed that the fruit of this teaching was that -"...God would be banished from the realm of human affairs." This is what was transpiring during A.W.Pink's lifetime and the rotten fruit of Darwin's 'Godless Hypothesis' continues to have an enormous impact on our culture and our academic institutions.

What is the author getting at with the title 'The Godhood Of God'-"...the omnipotency of God,the absolute Sovereignty of God." The evolutionary atheistic mindset not only attempts to strip God of his power but seeks to overthrow his very existence.According to Mr.Pink, that mans reasoning is flawed, who tries to understand himself and the universe in which he exists,if he begins with man and tries to reason back to God.No! He must begin with God-'In the Beginning God'(these are the opening words of God's in-scripturated self revelation)to begin with God must also be-"...the first axiom of all true philosophy." There are many individual verses (of course the Scriptures as a whole do as well)that expose man's folly towards his maker(this folly is seen-in their thoughts, words and the way that they live). The natural man seeks to live independent of God but the following verse clearly reveals how foolish this is-'For of Him,and through Him,and to Him,are all things.'(Romans 11:36).Pink gives a great summary of this verse-"In the beginning -God,in the center-God,at the end-God". Remove God from your philosophy and you may impress your fellow man with your supposed wisdom and eloquence but 'The Sword Of The Spirit' will cut though your words and expose the folly behind them.Remove God from your thinking and life becomes empty and meaningless.

One of the reasons that 'The Godhood Of God'(The Absolute Sovereignty Of God)is such an important doctrine is because-"Nothing is so humbling to the human heart as a true recognition of the absolute Sovereignty Of God." What a great need there is for humility in our generation, which is why the preaching and teaching of this doctrine is so vital for our day.

A.W.Pink's most well known and most influential book is 'The Sovereignty Of God'.He had an in-depth understanding of this doctrine and has given powerful application of it in his writings.

The book succinctly can be closely described in verses Ecclesiastes 5:1-2. Even, You are GOD in heaven, and here am on earth; so let me humble myself, and keep my words few before Thee.

Very short & concise book emphasizing the sovereignty of God. Lays everything out logically & with great care. A small book but full of timeless quotes from Pink that never get old. It shows who God really is, the omnipotent creator, who is still in control.....
