I have a TIVO HD XL (with an external 1GB HD) and I almost bought this remote when I first got the TIVO but I decided it wasn't worth the extra expense. Then last weekend I couldn't find my TIVO remote and after a huge search before I found it I decided I wanted a backup remote and ponied up. That was my sole reason for the purchase; little did I know this $60 device would change my TIVO relationship!

One of the things I HATED about my TIVO was the sluggish response to remote commands. I just assumed that the HD picture quality was stressing out the unit's CPU and making things slow. But when I got this new remote and plugged it in (easy) I discovered the REAL reason you need to buy this remote: SPEED SPEED SPEED! The keyboard is just a bonus!

WHY THIS REMOTE IS WELL WORTH THE $60
1) This remote easily doubled the responsiveness of my TIVO. I would have paid twice as much for the speed difference alone! TIVO obviously has issues with it's IR functionality and not with its CPU power.
2) This remote is bluetooth (radio) rather than InfraRed (light) so I no longer have to point the remote at the TV; I don't even have to be in the same room as the TIVO to control it.
3) I didn't really care about the keyboard until I got this remote, but now that I can easily use the search function I find myself using it MUCH more than I used to. Search is now easy and painless instead of painfully slow and seriously frustrating.
4) This remote is more compact and the keys are much easier to thumb one-handed and the remote is better balanced in your hand as a result.

POSSIBLE NEGATIVES
1) Being smaller this remote will be even easier to lose.
2) It feels surprisingly heavy; it is easily the heaviest of my sizable remote control collection.
3) Being bluetooth, in theory it will probably go through batteries faster than the stock remote (this is a guess based on experience with other radio remotes and isn't proven yet).

Did I mention SPEED SPEED SPEED!?!?

UPDATE: Only a few days shy of a month the remote quit working while I was using it. No water, no drops, just quit. Between that, the honeymoon period being over, and the backlight being worthless I am downgrading to 4 stars.
I ordered a new remote and returned the broken one but I dropped the rating because for something to get five stars from me it has to be nearly perfect.

Update#2: It took me three remotes to get one that worked and kept working. The last one has held up quite well and I still say this remote makes such a speed difference it is worth it for that alone. I bumped my review back to 5 stars.

I got my first TiVo many years ago, and in fact still have that original one - a Sony TiVo Series 1. Since then, I've upgraded twice, owning two  Tivo Series 2 TCD540040 DVR Recorders  and now upgrading to two  TiVo TCD746320 Premiere DVRs (Black) .

No matter which TiVo model I've used, one of my favorite features has always been the Wishlists. However, it's also been one of the most tedious features, as it used to require clicking through the on-screen keyboard until you spelled out the keywords you wished to set up.

When I got my TiVo Premieres, one of the main things I was looking forward to was the ability to use the TiVoSlide remote, which offers a full keyboard on the remote and greatly speeds the entry of alphabetical characters.

I didn't want to use the TiVoSlide as my main remote, as I prefer using my  Logitech Harmony One Universal Remote with Color Touchscreen  and  Logitech Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote Control  remotes with their advanced features such as Activities. I planned to buy one TiVoSlide remote to use for both of my TiVo Premiere DVRs, only using it when I needed to enter text too cumbersome to use the onscreen keyboard for.

Unfortunately, TiVo found a way to foil that plan. The TiVoSlide requires a Bluetooth adapter be connected to the TiVo and the slide-out keyboard only works with the Bluetooth adapter that remote is paired with. Ah well, best-laid plans go astray, as they say.

Still, I found the TiVoSlide to be so convenient I finally broke down and bought a second one for the other TiVo Premiere. Entering strings of text is truly a breeze with the slide-out keyboard and the rest of the remote works very well also. If you are already used to a standard TiVo remote, you will have no trouble switching to the TiVoSlide as it is laid out almost exactly like the original TiVo remote, albeit in a condensed size.

Programming my televisions in the TiVoSlide remote was very easy, just as with the original TiVo remote.

After using the TiVoSlide for just six months, I honestly don't know how I ever did without it. I really think that TiVo needs to start packaging these as a standard item with all TiVos. The only reason I did not rate it with five stars is that it can't be easily switched back and forth between TiVos without also moving the Bluetooth adapter.
