Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is a new, action stealth First Person Shooter set in the rich, futuristic, sci-fi world of the Riddick film saga. The game features a rich storyline, intriguing, developed characters, and the voice acting of Vin Diesel. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena follows up the story from the original game title as Riddick must now flee the Dark Athena, following his harrowing escape from the notorious Butcher Bay prison. During the adventure, Richard B. Riddick must escape the predatory Merc-ship Dark Athena using stealth and action to overcome its merciless crew and challenge the nefarious Captain Revas.

The Chronicles of Riddick series of games takes the player deeper into the universe of Universal Pictures' films The Chronicles of Riddick and cult classic Pitch Black, which first introduced Vin Diesel as enigmatic anti-hero Riddick.

    Error activating key. Tages issue
I have tried every suggestion over and over, the problem I think is that there is no more Tages server to communicate with. Every time I try to activate I get this error. @Ctiv is a tages DRM error. For all of those looking to download the Tages download that is no longer available as clicking that link you get the 404 page. Also, when you download the game from amazon, it comes with the Tages download for both 64 and 86. Neither work. I will try and see if Amazon issues a refund
    Thank you for your feedback

I'm not going to advocate that anyone do anything illegal. What I AM going to say is that for legitimate customers who have purchased this game (I'm referring here to the actual disk, and not the downloadable Steam version) that there is and has been a "crack" available for the 1.01 patched version of this game since about the middle of last year on various sites (like The Pirate Bay).
The crack, when installed after the game has been installed and then the 1.01 patch installed afterward, will disable the DRM completely--no more disk checks, no more limited installations, and no more having the game crap out on you while you're playing because the cruddy DRM malfunctions and decides you didn't really purchase the game after all (as described in the reviews here and elsewhere).
If you ask me, Atari should admit that it was a mistake to treat their paying customers like criminals by implementing the DRM in the first place and just release the crack as an added patch for their customers to download. Because, let's face it, PC sales of this game were pathetic, and that's because of the DRM.

I am all about supporting game developers who create great games and treat their paying customers with a modicum of respect. I would have preferred to buy this game when it came out, in which case I would have paid full price and Atari would have seen more profit from my purchase. But instead I was forced to wait years because I see no point in purchasing a game that I wouldn't be able to play without being subjected to draconian and flawed anti-pirating measures that penalize paying customers like myself and not the pirates. And I'm sure there are many thousands of people just like me who either waited a long time to buy it, or else didn't buy it at all.

I also believe that such DRM schemes violate customers' rights, and they should be outlawed. If I buy music, for example, I can listen to it as many times as I want. I can convert & copy it to my music player as many times as I want. It's my copy, I bought it, and short of distributing it to other people, I'm allowed pretty much to personally use it any way I want to. But for some reason game publishers have been getting a free pass when it comes to their DRM schemes infringing on customers' rights, and it really has to stop. And why is it that the PC gets picked on? Discs for other platforms are even easier to pirate--one has only to look around the Internet to see copies of games for other platforms available for download that can then be burned to disc. It's ridiculous that PC gamers get singled out. And besides, the actual numbers regarding sales lost to piracy have been massively overblown. And so far there hasn't been a single game that pirates haven't been able to crack, no matter how convoluted the DRM scheme, so why even bother? It's much ado about nothing. Anything beyond a simple disc-check when starting the game is overkill, unnecessary, and counter-productive. Atari should take a cue from itself and at least re-release the game like it did with The Witcher, the enhanced edition of which was released with absolutely NO DRM attached to it, unlike the original.

So, anyway, rant aside, the game is good, but like almost everyone else here has stated, not worth the angst of dealing with its defective DRM scheme (unless the crack is used).

I love Riddick and this game. Butcher's Bay is far superior in originality, story and gameplay. Athena was not nearly as fun, but was a decent attempt to continue to franchise and give players who loved Butcher's Bay a little more. I have played Butcher's Bay several times, it's that great. But Athena will sit on the shelf for a long while before I pick it up again. It's good, just not great. Biggest issue is lack of what made the 1st one amazing. A mix of stealth, FPS, hand to hand, melee, and shooting unrivaled ever before. Athena is far too much about getting a drone gun. And the big gun that shows up later in the game is a drag in my opinion. Too tough to wield effectively. So simply not as natural and fun as BB.
I've noticed a lot of people saying it doesn't work on Windows 7. I have Windows 7. Installed the game. Received a warniing edit that it wouldn't run. Compatability issue with driver. Windows 7 asked permission to look for solution. I click yes. It says it's a TAGES issue. And the solution is an updated TAGES driver. I click on it, I am taken right to the TAGES website. Download new TAGES driver. Play game with no issue. Windows 7 completely guided me through the fix.
I realize there can be more to this for some. Just offering the solution I found with Window 7 prompting me right to it. It was so simple to resolve.
TAGES is a copy protection so the disk can't be copied. I understand the controversy and intrusiveness of some of this DRM stuff. I'm not debating it. Just saying the TAGES driver compatability issue can be resolved.
As far as lagging, I don't know. It runs flawlessly on mine. Sorry some are having trouble. I have not had one problem.
Bottom line: if you haven't played Butcher's Bay, this is a must own. If you have and loved it, Athena is worth a run through. Besides, I now have both games for my new Windows 7 PC as opposed to just the Butcher's Bay for XP on my old one.

If you are a fan of Vin Diesel, the Chronicles/Pitch Black movies and/or the 1st game, tehn it would definfitely be worth your time to get and play this game. I admit I couldn't even get my copy to work despite it being "new" it crashed upon startup and nothing i did could get it to work. Thus the 3 star only rating. Finally I had to locate a "crack" to get my brand new legal copy of the game to run. When it was finally up and running it was a decent game. Good story - bad acting that we all love and a decent FPS there is more melee combat than normal FPS i must say by necesity. It seems you either have to shoot at close up or melee opponents as i emptied a whole 30- round clip from long-distance in an enemy before he finally died. It was a machine-gun that needed to be at shotgun length. weird? Due to all the troube I had to get the game to work i cannot give it more than a 3 star otherwise a solid 4 star for fans for non-fans, still a 3 at best maybe a 2. The graphics are superb and the cutscenes are aplenty. I love the narration by Vin Diesel, so maybe I think I liked this game more than most
