Ibanez GSRM black bass is a perfect entry level bass for the price
Ibanez is synonymous with quality products and this bass is high on quality at a bargain price. This is my first bass and at an entry level I wanted a short fret board and one my smaller hands could easily and comfortably navigate. The gloss black finish is beautiful and the silver hardware compliments the black finish perfectly. I can sit on my couch with no strap attached and the bass sits comfortably on my thigh and is perfectly balanced as I play. The body has a good solid feel to it........yet it is only about seven pounds. The pickup configuration has warm lows and a nice hi midrange that makes for a nice clean tone. I already own an Ibanez GR120-EX electric guitar and the GSRM bass is a great addition to my collection. I highly recommend this bass for any entry level player and I recommend all Ibanez products for all players or collectors. For the price, this bass is an instrument that will last a lifetime if treated well. Music is life......live well.

I ve been looking at a number of inexpensive short scale basses as of late and i am so glad i went with this one even having not tried it in person before hand. I ve played bass for 35 years and have owned well over 40 basses. I currently play on two series I alembics( fretted and fretless) but needed a bass i could take around most anywhere without worrying about losing a costly and amazing instument. I had tried out a few other short scaled basses(the fender bronco and jaguar, and others) but i just didnt like the feel and limited tone possibilities i found on these instrument. I have had both fender and ibanez basses in the past and was pleased them all, but these short scaled basses just didnt offer what i was looking for. So i took a leap of faith and bought the mikro unseen/unplayed. I love it!! The tiny neck has a very smooth feel to it and plays quite fast. As far as tone goes..well, i wasnt expecting too much. I played back the first recordings i did with it and was blown away by the versitility it displayed!! Ranging from deep reggae tones to bright snappy tones great for rock or jazz both plucking and slapping!
The only issue i have with the bass after 5 days of playing with it is that a couple of the pick-up height adjustment screws are either misaligned or just contrary, but i imagine that it is something easily addressed and overcome.
All in all, i am very impressed with this little bass and all it brings to the mix! Its tonal versitility far surpasses that of the other basses i encountered in this scale length/price range. Its playability is wonderful and the feel of the neck is great! And the light weight is a godsend(i bet its no more than 1/3 the weight of my alembics!)
I would heartily recomend this instrument for either the beginner or the more advanced player looking for a small new bass to play with, or just for something a "little" different!

I am relatively new to bass. I recently bought a 34" scale Ibanez and liked it, but had a hard time reaching frets. bought this and... ohhh wow. what I struggled with suddenly became incredibly easy. For those of you who worry that a short scale bass is somehow inferior to a full scale bass. never believe it. The sound of this is just as good, if not better than comparable full scale basses. and this fretboard is as easy to use as a classic guitar's. The setup was good right from the box although it was out of tune. the action was a bit high compared to what I was used to, but I was surprised at how well it played. it was clean and rich. I decided to leave it high for a while then play around with optimizing it later.
Being an amateur luthier, my full scale bass will soon become a short scale mash project. I'm sure I will need to make major mods but that's what makes it fun. I will never buy full scale again. I plan to design and build custom short scale basses as a result of trying this. Right after finishing the from scratch violin I am building, that is.
By the way... install flat wound, short scale strings, especially for a beginner. they really do make a difference. But I advise against full scale flats, stay with the short scale ones. They are harder to find, but worth the effort.

Sonically, this is a decent bass. The P/J pickup configuration gives you a useful array of tonal options. The overall tone is a quite coarse and growly, which won't be to everyone's liking, but it makes this bass good for a lot of hard rock styles. Like most short-scale basses, this Mikro offers a big, booming low end, lacking the clarity and refinement you'd typically get from a standard 34" scale.

But the ergonomic gains are massive. This bass offers extremely easy reach because of the thin, short-scale neck, and the the body contouring is perfectly executed: everything is smooth and rounded so nothing digs into your torso (or thigh when playing seated.) It's lightweight and perfectly balanced, with no dive in either direction. Many far more expensive basses fail here.

No problems with fit or finish, though the wiring is problematic: mine started to give off a static crackle when touching the control knobs after a while.

Certainly a fine bass for the price, good for beginners or more experienced bassists who want a short scale in their arsenal.

This was a gift, so I unwrapped and inspected, and tuned it myself, before gifting it. ALL that was needed was to relax the neck a quarter turn as it was straight as an arrow, with no relief. Aside from that, once tuned, it's as perfect as I could have wanted. The finish, hardware and tones are all great. Have seen some reviews questioning if the Vol/Tone knobs are metal or metal-look plastic. They look, feel and operate fine, so what does it really matter... Anyway this was for a 5'0" young woman who was trying to learn on a 34" scale P bass, can you see the problem? Well thanks to the fact that this one is perfect, albeit 3 days later than estimated, she hasn't been able to put it down except for short breaks. That's all that matters. Now, let the journey begin !
