Imma hardcore Gamer so Well i was looking for a desktop that can handle the latest games on high and ultra settings, and all of them were like expensive with no bundled software, until i got my eyes on this machine, everything was perfect until i saw the graphics card that was equipped (before Buying tho :D), so knowing that the new graphics cards need a 500+watt power supply i had ta get that too, i got the EVGA GeForce GTX 460 2048 MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI-Mini-HDMI SLI Ready, and a thermal Power supply and you know what, i never thought it would be this good, i ran GTA IV on ultra settings and it ran perfectly, knowing that this game had a lot of problems with the pc and ran fine on the consoles, i tried Dirt 3 and i had the same result, any game you would throw to this machine will run better than ever anticipated, its the six core processor with the 8 gigs of ram doing there job as intended, reading other reviews i say one thing, you should read well before buying anything, i did my homework and im very well satisfied with this machine plus your buying a brand name, lots of exclusive stuff given only by hp, you should definitely get this Desktop-Pc, and for those afraid that this machine wont fit the new graphic cards such as atis, it will there is like huge space for the graphic card that it would even fit the largest ones, trust me i was worried since its a mid tower and got the nvidia gfx instead of the atis :D

I purchased HP Pavilion Elite HPE-500f PC (Black) desktop, expecting to get the exact product I wanted. Unfortunately, I got another model of HP Pavilion - HPE-530f PC instead Elite HPE-500f PC, which I was completely disappointed with. Firstly, the model I ordered has SIX core processor whereas the model I got has just FOUR core processor. Secondly, the product I got had certain obvious defects such a broken front panel and damage on the front cover of panel (which is, probably, result of falling or hitting. Since I had no time to play with its returning, I decided to keep that desktop. It seems like some mix-up happened with my order that resulted in delivering not exactly the product I wanted.

A lot of computer in a small package

I like that this model has 6 processor cores and can be upgraded to 16 GB of RAM. These features make it a nice lab for software like Oracle databases and virtual machines.

After running Windows Update (SP1, etc), updating the BIOS and chipset drivers over the course of 6 hours or so, startup and shutdown times improved compared to the out of the box configuration.

Time from power on to login prompt decreased from 58 seconds to 49 seconds.
Time from login to launching IE 9 and getting a URL prompt with Google as a home page decreased from 26 to 15 seconds.
Shutdown time decreased from 26 seconds to 17 seconds.

You can find drivers more recent than what HP offers by searching the web for the following:
AMD South Bridge and AHCI driver
win7 rtl8100e 2011 software utilities
Ralinktech RT309x mPCI 2011 win7 support

I have been trying out an Nvidia 9600GSO video card in the HPE-500f and have observed that the chassis is too small to dissipate heat well. It does fine with the stock Radeon 6450 which is a tiny card. However, a larger gaming card blocks airflow through the center of the case.

For example, the 9600GSO max temperature running Furmark 1.9.1 from within an Antec Solo minitower was 71 Celsius. Idle temp was 55 C. The 9600GSO max temperature running Furmark 1.9.1 from within the HPE-500f teeny tiny tower was 85 Celsius. I reduced the temperature to 83 C by removing slot covers adjacent to the 9600GSO. Idle temp was 66 C. The ambient temperature was 23 C.

I conclude that only low power video cards are tolerable in the HPE-500f. It is what it is.
