Better than the zeiss conquest 8x42

I'm a wildlife viewer. I used to own the vortex diamondback. Good binoculars but wanted more. So I got the viper. Very glad I did. great glasses. A world apart from the diamondbacks. Definitely worth every cent. I've watched birds, mammals, and enjoyed every moment.
But I was just curious what the zeiss conquest had to offer since I've heard good things about the German brand.....well I tried them both side by side for 7 days at dawn, noon, and dusk, in the woods and on the ocean. I really couldn't see a difference that justified the extra 400+ dollars. Maybe a little clearer at dusk ...maybe.

The zeiss conquest(8x42) didn't show any mechanical problems with me like most reviewers mentioned about the eyecups, (a little hard to pull up but they extended all the way) focus wheel too smooth (took me 20 minutes to get the finesse for it ) etc. it's a really good pair that worked great.

Both binoculars gave me the 100% each had to offer.

The reason why I think the viper is better is because it gave me the same visual enjoyment than the conquest did but was almost half the price.

I'm not a zeiss hater. I'm not a vortex "fan boy" but people like me will appreciated my honest opinion. No need to spend your hard earned money on something that can give u same thing than something more affordable.
Maybe the conquest is more durable, but I'm not planning on driving a truck over them to find out or shooting them like I saw on a YT video. But if I do by mistake. Vortex guaranty will replace them for free.

Maybe the vortex razor will be more significantly better than the viper but I'm ok with my vipers. I'll also buy a spotting scope in the future to experience another level of wildlife viewing.

No Shakes - 10x50mm is just fine go for the power if you are NOT a birder.. they surely want a lower power... not me...for this

ok..lets begin...
all as described is solid. A good value that has some thought into the features. And it all works.
I set-up the left/right eye focus.. and attached the straps as intended. The design is good. The front covers are attached properly, the rear are attached as perm on left piece... the right piece a temp grip... good design.
the optical performance is good ( I use Canon 'L' lenses.. I have a bit of an 'eye' here.)
the case can stay on the pair as it hangs from your neck. Another good design... the case can fall-away as an emergent object is spotted.... very clever. What I have not yet figure is how the 3rd party tripod mount connects INTO THE BINOC.. ... PROCEEDING SLOWLY HERE..
BUT I DONT SEE 10x50MM BEING TOO SHAKY - I already LIKE THE ADDED POWER... NO SHAKES HERE FROM A 71 YEAR OLD GUY.
$550 for this is a good value - imo.
so I am happy. Case is unobtrusive as it hangs with binoc... I like this feature.
protected but not in my way...
I bet I wont need the double-price upgrade...

I DO WANT to see how to attach to my monopod.. I got a $7... 3rd party item... but ?how to get the 'cover' off?....the data is not given on that ...here... I will research...but I hardly need it.. no shakes from this old goat.!!!

Totally, totally great binoculars. As a long time bird watcher, I have had several binoculars over the years, including Leitz. These are the very best. Some time ago, I bought my husband a pair of binoculars (on Amazon of course) and although very, very good and cost twice as much, I have to say (as does my husband) mine are better and they're lighter in weight. So very, very pleased with my purchase.

We bought these binoculars to be an intermediate pair between our Eagle Ranger 8x42's (which are very good binocs on their own), and our Swarovski EL 8x42's. These Vipers fit the bill perfectly. Noticeably brighter image than the Rangers, (as they should have, since they're more expensive). Very good field of view. Good news - they're made in JAPAN, not China. They fit well in the hand. The focus knob can be turned one-handed which is important for birders. Good range of eye relief if you wear glasses as I do. Nice rubberized barrels are easy to grip. Locking diopter ring which is great. Lightweight and fairly short-barreled so easy to handle. The neck strap seems to be of good quality although we don't use it. Overall high quality in feel. Of course nothing can match the Swaros for quality, but these Vortex Vipers are a very good pair of binocs for the price, (especially if you don't want to shell out $2500 for the new Swarovskis!)

For the longest time I purchased new binoculars every couple of years. I have now come to the point where I am purchasing the products that will last a long time. This is my second pair of Vortex Viper HD Binos, and I don't think you can get better glass or warranty for the price. On a side note that doesn't have to do with this product but with Vortex, my brother just sent in his range finder because it was not working and within 4 days he had a new range finder, new eye pieces for his talon binos and a t shirt. Could not ask for better costumer service.

As for the glass, these were for my wife as I use the 12x50s. I am a huge fan. It is so nice to not have to pull out the spotting scope because you have binos that will reach out so far. The glass is awesome.
