I have used more bluetooth headsets than I can count from a range of manufacturers. Jawbone typically proved the most frustrating: excellent technology, good controls, and brilliant packaging marred by heavy weight, large size, use of proprietary chargers, poor fit, and weak sound. Over time, as the already incredible noise-canceling technology improved, the size and weight decreased, and output volume increased, leading to the small, featherweight Icon. The Icon also saw the first use by Jawbone of the micro-USB standard for mobile device charging. Sadly, the Icon still suffered from an unstable fit and tinny sound.

Enter the Era, and at last, Jawbone has reached perfection (almost). Most on-line reviews will gush over Jawbone's ability to pack a larger, fuller-spectrum speaker into the same-size housing, and it's true: it is louder, and voices sound more natural, now that they have the "warmth" lacking from the Icon. What they don't tell you is that the eartips are much improved. First, there are four of them now, not just three; what was the Icon's largest one, is now the second-largest packed in the Era's box. Interestingly, the second-largest eartip for the Era is also slightly larger than the Icon's largest, leading to - at last! - a stable, secure fit. One that also remains fairly comfortable for extended periods of time.

One will also read much about the built-in accelerometer. While it seems a bit gimicky, I have to admit, the "tap-tap" to answer and end calls is actually pretty slick. I can't wait to see what other control-ability Jawbone will devise for the Era in time.

I am a UPS driver and need the best bluetooth technology available. I have tried 5 other bluetooth models over the last 2 years, most recent being the Jawbone ICON, and my search has culminated to this new piece here, the ERA. The problem with the icon was its subpar volume when playing media, since I stream pandora from my cell phone for many hours a day. The new ERA is substantially louder and of much better quality. I cant put it on its loudest level because its too much, and I never thought I would have this much welcomed problem.

I know the phone touts all this tap tap shake shake stuff, which is neat, but I just use it the regular old fashioned way.

As for call quality, its outstanding. The phone is light and fits snug and comfortably with the jabra ear gel inserts I bought for the ICON but also fit perfect on the ERA. I do not like any of the custom earpieces it comes with.

The reason I wrote the review is because of the conditions I put this thing through. I drive the UPS truck, with an obnoxiously loud diesel engine roaring under my nose, and both doors are open so you can imagine the wind noise, and the ERA handles it like a champ. Its loud and clear on my end, and everyone I call says its sounds good on their end. Its a grand slam!!

Despite being represented as a new item, both in the description and on the packaging the unit arrived in, this was obviously used and/or refurbished. When I configured the headset using the Jawbone MyTalk website it showed that the unit had previously been used with another phone. It also doesn't include all of the earbuds and such included in the retail packaging; this was, to be fair, included in the item description, though I didn't find it until after ordering.

I was completely outraged when I received my new Jawbone Era. First & foremost THIS WAS A USED PRODUCT, NOT NEW AS I ORDERED !!!!!
The single ear gel that came with it had EAR WAX on it, utterly discussing !!!
There was no charger, the bag to carry the ear piece was torn on 1 side, the battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than 30 minutes, it's advertised as coming with 8 ear gels, they were not in the package.
The product arrived in a wrinkled plastic bad with a wrinkled barely readable manual.
This is an outrage !!!!!!
I'll never buy anything else from this seller !!!

First off let me say that the build quality of the ERA is fantastic for how lightweight it is. I bought this unit as well as he blueant q2 with the intention of returning the loser. The ERA is a great piece of hardware but Jawbone really needs to step it up with their mytalk software to give users more control to unlock the potential for this headset.

JAWBONE ERA

First the bad:

1. Accelerometer; For now its just a gimmick. I mean really, why are there 3 ways to answer the phone, shake shake, tap tap, button on the back of the ERA. that is just a waste and with proper software users would be able to specify their preference for answering which leaves other options open for more functions. also tap tap is ONLY for answering and hanging up which is a waste of a feature when not receiving or on a call, for example when listening to music or podcasts taptap does nothing when it should pause/play. with a simple update the uses of taptap could be expanded. shake shake is useless because unless you want to give yourself a headache and look very weird you will not be shaking this thing while on its your head, Its cool for pairing but thats it.

2. NO MUTE; neither the blueant or the jawbone has a mute button which I find unacceptable when working from home. being able to mute while; talking to your kids, bathroom, dogs start barking, etc jawbone should let you customize the button functions (I personally would use the button to answer hangup and taptap to mute/unmute when on a call.

3. My Talk; being able to change the voice in your ear is a great feature however I found that was the only good thing about mytalk. there are apps available but you can only run one app at a time and it requires you to give up voice dialing.
