Grace and Mark are a couple who has been together for several years and things are going well, until the subject of babies comes up. Grace is frustrated that Mark wants to have a baby with her, but he doesn't want to get married to her. She doesn't want children or doesn't want them right now. A few fateful things start to happen after that. After a dinner party given by one of her friends she gets to know Tom a bit better and starts to develop a little bit of a crush on the man, especially after receiving some flirty texts from the man afterwards. She's also startled to discover Mark confiding his problems in one of her best girlfriends. She's startled by this and while initially she ends up agreeing with what Mark wants to do, this decision to have a baby causes them to slowly grow apart while her crush on Tom continues to grow. Does she work things out with Mark? Does she decide to have a baby with him truly or does she want a baby at all? And if she does want to have a baby is it just that she doesn't want to have one with Mark?

Head Over Heels was a very entertaining book and I felt like I really understood some of the choices Grace had to make and could sympathize with her at the very least even though I didn't always agree with her decisions. In the end I was very satisfied with how everything turned out for both Grace and Mark in the end.

Head Over Heels was a great read. It is the story of Grace, a woman who, as the story begins, appeared to have a perfect life. The story is written in first person voice and Grace tells us her story with wit, intelligence and emotion. I liked Grace and her friends Alex and Evie. They all had distinct voices and felt like women that would be fun to know. This book had me from the first page. The story moves along at a brisk pace and, for an American, it had a different feel to it because it is written by an English writer and takes place there. Also, when they vacation, they go to places like Positano in Italy - which frankly sounded GREAT to me (Minnesotan after a long winter)! I found Grace's life and her life predicaments to be very believable and I admired how she struggled to work things out and remain true to herself and her values.

I really feel I should give a 'heads up' to readers who are completely turned off by infidelity in a book. While there is no marital infidelity in this story, there is both emotional and physical infidelity within a relationship of long standing. That being said, the circumstances worked for me and I did not find myself condemning any of the characters.

Just couldn't like the characters

The plot idea was interesting, with a different kind of twist that was not expected after reading the first chapter where Grace was in labor. I just could not find the characters likeable enough to root for.

Grace spent 8 loving years with a man who gave her everything, then in the space of an evening he turns borderline abusive and she begins to fall in love with a man who flirts with her at a dinner party for 8? Grace came across as pretty immature--8 years and no discussion of whether they want children?--and spoiled. There was much more of Mark and he came across as much more likeable, IMO, than the boss who flirts, texts, and seduces her. There isn't as much development of Tom's character and so to see her thinking of chucking the nice guy who seemed to give her everything for him made her seem pretty shallow. From him she demanded a wedding after 8 years of commitment but was willing to sell herself for much less to Tom. After 8 years had Mark really changed that much? I was confused.

The 2 main supporting characters were pretty generic "oh so well off mommy types" who didn't add much. The elderly next door neighbor had a much more interesting tale to tell but wasn't really developed--I would have enjoyed more of her and less of Grace. The whole "misunderstanding" over the blonde was pretty shallow. Maybe if Mark had been made more of a villain (an affair of his own? secret wife preventing marriage to Grace?) and Tom had been better developed beyond the seducing boss type I would have had more empathy for Grace, but the way it was written just left her unlikeable, again just my opinion.

This wasn't badly written (your basic comma errors that were easy to overlook) just not that engaging.

I would put this into the "Chick Lit" reading category. It is a fairly typical and mostly predictable story of an English school teacher and her chums, and their lives and loves. The interesting part was deciphering all the English terms and colloquialisms.

The book starts off with the main character in labor, and promptly drops the F-bomb in all caps in the first paragraph. If you can get by that, though, it does settle down, and there is not a lot of that through the rest of the book. However, it may not be suitable for people who don't care for sex scenes, especially outside of marriage.

But those issues aside, for me, the story just slogged along. It was full of great details, beyond the point of necessary information. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't love it either. I would classify it as a book to be read when you just need something light to occupy your day.

I have read this book quite a few times if only because of the sparks between sexy Tom and shoe/shopping obsessed Grace. Although to start off with Grace is with the rather controlling and over bearing Mark it doesn't stop Tom from making a beeline for her as he probably can't help himself. As they both work together at the school with Tom being Grace's boss they are constantly thrown together resulting in a deepening attraction. As Grace's own relationship with Mark is in trouble because he wants to start a family and she doesn't is this enough to tip them into each others arms? You need to read this book to find out!

This is a lovely warming story which you can't stop thinking about even after finishing it with lovely georgeous Tom being the real winner of this book.

I did enjoy the majority of this book, as it is a typical chick-flic type book. The story revolves around grace and her relationship that develops with tom after struggles with her current relationship with mark. The story then continues to have a ending the reader is happy with.

The reason why i couldn't give this book more stars, was that I thought the first half was quite drawn out, with the second half a bit fasted paced. Unfortuntely that didn't make it very gripping to read.

Despite the pacing of the book, the story is light-hearted and an easy read

Loved the story, really quite romantic, although found I was able to second guess a lot that was going to happen, well I got one bit wrong so u know what I mean by a little predictable, but still good story kept me hooked, started in the morning and finished just after midnight but it was a long story compared to some others, definitely worth a read for the money.
