Product Description

The perfect compromise between blizzard in the forecast and first chill of fall, this multi-functional softshell works hard and plays even harder. It's made from rich, supple softshell with all the comfort of a heavy sweatshirt and the weather-fighting prowess of a hardshell jacket. The ascender's windproof omni-shield fabric breathes and wicks moisture while creating a water-repellent force field between you and precipitation. Tighten the hem to keep out cold drafts with the adjustable drawcord and warm your digits in the zip-closed hand pockets. A supple tricot lining delivers an added dose of cozy comfort.

Great Outdoor All-Weather Jacket! Beware of the collar before purchase.

Great Outdoor All-Weather Jacket! Beware of the collar before purchase.
Definitely the BEST jacket I own. As a college student who has to walk across campus everyday, I use this during winter or just during rainy days. It's very versatile that way! The outer layer is water resistant AND wind resistant. So when it's freezing outside I literally tighten the adjustable sleeves and bottom of the jacket to keep myself warm. It's also pretty fashionable. My only gripe about the jacket is the little part of fabric sticking out around the collar of the jacket. You can't see it in the pictures that they give you, but that's the first thing I noticed when the jacket was shipped to me. It sticks out and looks a little odd. The jacket could have definitely done without it. But for the price, this jacket is a steal!

I had bought this jacket recently to replace an older softshell.

I found this jacket to be very warm and accommodating. The fit is perfect. I am 5'11", 180lb, with broad shoulders and a size 32 waist. I bought it in a medium. This jacket fits like a dream. My arms have excellent range of motion, even when fully zipped up.

The jacket seems thin at first. Inside, it is lined with a fleece like material, and the outside is a very smooth and soft water repelling shell. The pockets are very useful, and I like that they are zipped. I wore it on a 4 mile hike this past weekend. The weather was approximately 48-50f. Through out the hike, I kept the jacket at 3/4 zip, and it was very comfortable. I wore a blended t-shirt underneath. I stayed dry and comfortable the entire time.

The price point on this jacket was very reasonable. Prior to buying this one, I looked at the NF Apex Bionic. However, the Apex Bionic is close to three times the price, while offering, what I feel, are the same features.

Overall, this was a great buy and I would buy a second one in a heartbeat (in gray). I would definitely recommend it.

I got this jacket as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend and he loved it. I got the collegiate navy color in size LARGE (he is 5ft 11in and weighs 180 lbs) and the large fit him great! The first thing I would note is the feel of the jacket, it feels soft and comfortable and it is a good wind breaker jacket. I was originally looking into getting a North Face jacket but I would say this is comparable in quality to the Apex Bionic for a better price. We live in Northern Maryland and the winters vary here but it usually does not get extremely cold except for a few weeks here and there every winter. This is a great jacket for mild winter days (40 degrees and up). One review here said that they wore it in Alaska weather and it kept them warm. I would say you can't go wrong with this, either if you're buying it for yourself or for someone else.

One thing I would note is that it did not come with any of the tags. I don't know if this was just my jacket or all of the Columbia one from this Columbia Amazon seller don't have the tags. My boyfriend didn't care but if you're buying it for a relative they may feel more comfortable seeing the tags.

The cold temperatures is where this Columbia soft shell is most useful. Its warm inner fabric and wind/water resistance outer shell helps to keep me toasty warm! I should point out that I also have a heavier Columbia outer shell similar to this soft shell that I used in unison with an older Columbia soft shell jacket that I somehow misplaced (bummer). Needless to say I HAD to get another one because the quality of the great layer piece was soo good.

    Size:XXL
    Height: 6' 0"
    Weight: 245lbs
    Build: Athletic

Pros: (1) a wind and water resistant outer surface, (2) A high collar that zips to one's chin, (3) a strong and reliable zipper system, (4) draw strings at the waist, (5) generous sleeves with adjustable Velcro pull back closers, (5) inside fleece like material that feels great against the skin (6) well built and sturdy construction, (7) PRICE!!!

Cons: (1) Waist is a bit loose fitting (good thing for the drawstrings) but it still could have been cut a little slimmer, (2) The fleece like material used inside of the arms is a bit "grabby" (It doesn't bother me though -just thought that you should know), (3) runs a bit smaller than the last Columbia Soft Shell that I owned.

I use this great layer piece throughout the cooler Fall, and colder Winter months. Put on a mock/turtle neck with this soft shell and you will be in great shape for those cooler/colder days. I use it while driving as most winter coats are too bulky to drive in comfortably. There are so many good things to say about this jacket that I think that you get the picture. I hope that what I shared will help you make an informed decision.

I recommend this great soft shell!

most of my wardrobe is function over form with a somewhat baggy fit on my slender frame. so awhile back i got to thinking i would try and add something that was a little more compatible with my slight build for casual wear around town, but that would also be able to pull its weight in keeping me warm and dry. i originally ordered this model in medium, and although it fit my 6'1", 165 lb frame fairly well, it did not quite achieve the fitted look i was hoping for, so i anxiously returned it in exchange for a small (i was afraid that might over do it). fortunately the small ended up being very close to what i wanted.

it is a little tight in the shoulders, but with a t-shirt on it fits great and is surprisingly warm on its own for a spring or fall chill down into the 50s. in a pinch i could put a light fleece layer on underneath for added warmth but it would definitely be snug. whats more is this sucker is water proof. i held the sleeve under a moderately running faucet and the water just beaded off like a duck's back. it by itself obviously wont keep my face or legs dry but im confident if im ever caught in anything less than a torrential rain it will at least keep my torso dry.
