I found this book though a curious route. I am someone who has been interested in awakening or enlightenment (non-symbolic consciousness it is called in the book) since having an "experience" when I was a child. Since then, I have been aware of and have actively searched for answers to questions that I could not fully form.
I remember reading Frank Herberts Sci-Fi novel, "Dune" and becoming really excited about a character who was on a path of awakening. Paul, (the fictional hero) has experiences that he does not fully understand but point him in a direction and give him insights to deeper states of being. The cry "Father, the sleeper has awakened!" struck a deep chord in me.
I sought some of those answers through drugs and alcohol in my teens and twenties. Don't need to tell you how that turned out!
For the last ten years or so, I have explored personal development to better my base self and awakening to develop my higher self (think pyramid: base is personal development and height is enlightened awareness). I have read many, many personal development books and have received great knowledge from them all. Each has added something to my being a better person, if I applied the lessons, that is! I have also explored meditation, yoga and "power of now" type practices to explore my deeper 'self' and make peace with my ego and the world. All have been beneficial but still I search...
I was listening to a podcast from "Buddhist Geeks" (really great Q & A type format discussing awakening and technology) when I heard Dr. Martin explain his theories and discuss two of his books (The Fourth Awakening with Rod Pennington being the other). What he talked about resonated with me. His explanations about why a particular self-help strategy would work or not made sense. I was intrigued by a researcher who was investigating the very thing I was trying to find, and was coming up with surprising answers. I first read The Fourth Awakening (excellent novel, BTW) and then checked out Dr. Martin through his research organization and then finally got around to reading The God Formula.
The continuum of development and the simple way of finding the right technique for where you are on it was illuminating, to say the least! I followed the book. Made a list. I started doing the visualizations and plugging the emotions into them and letting them go into the greater universe. The three things at the top of my list were: working at the perfect job, finding and marrying the woman of my dreams, and moving into the perfect house for the two of us. I used the "outcome" routine for each of these and was very clear in my emotions. The more precise I was in my description, the more accurate the outcome! Example: I had been searching for my career path and had tried many jobs, very unsatisfied with most of them, each for a different reason. So, I "pictured" my perfect job and added the emotions associated with it: outdoors, exploring, helping others, great co-workers, relaxed, confident, laughing, and health care and dental too! Eight months later, I was hired as a wilderness therapy staff at an amazing program in Utah. Before having a friend recommend me to the program, I had never even heard of such a place or career path. I did the same for meeting my wife (was in an unhealthy relationship with my ex-girlfriend then) and then again for our home. I have been continually surprised (pleasantly) at how the manifestations appear and what "flavor" they take. Again and again and again.
I have since found myself practicing the release and surrender more and more. The book pointed to another technique to further explore for releasing but nothing really on the surrender. There is another book due out this year that delves deeper into the last two thirds of the continuum. The book and the author point towards many techniques to explore and try. You MUST put in the work to discover where you are and then do the action. You can further research all of the information yourself. This is the best part of this book and this information. It is all thoroughly researched techniques and shows you when to use each one. Some you need to investigate for yourself (the what) but the continuum shows you the most important WHEN to use each one. Furthermore, the author has been most helpful in providing additional information to me that I requested.
This book is the meta-self-help book that makes the other self-help techniques incredibly valuable. If you have any experience with NLP, The Secret, Focusing, ect..., and wondered why you are still searching, looking at yet again, another book, then READ THIS!
I have not yet achieved full persistent awakened consciousness, yet. However, I believe my heart to have more peace, my life to be better, my thoughts clearer, and my faith stronger because of the information contained within and the actions taken as the result of this book. And, I am more valuable to the world.

I bought this book hoping to get a scientific perspective on the Law of Attraction. I know the importance of a positive attitude. Take my husband, for example. He's a pretty even person. No major lows, but he's quite confident and tends to be "lucky". Interestingly enough, he doesn't buy into the law of attraction. He thinks having a positive attitude and accepting things you cannot change just makes sense in a practical sort of way. If he's not bogged down worried about stuff then he'll be more open to opportunities when they present themselves. Conversely, if a person is negative, they will bring out the worst in other people if they don't send them running first. I agree with him. But, there's the "lucky" factor that doesn't play into that equation. There are countless examples of things happening to him that just leave me shaking my head in disbelief. Like, the time he was joking with me about buying a '59 Cadillac to restore. I explained to him how nuts he was and twenty minutes later we passed a '59 Cadillac on the freeway. This is a bit of a silly example, but there are many more, both big and small.

For the last few years I have been growing increasingly negative. This was largely due to having our second child and being extremely exhausted all the time. Coincidentally, I thought, things started to do a downward spiral for us (specifically financially). After reading Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" I decided to see if there was a bit more to the power of thought. Again, I was looking for some clinical studies when I bought this book. Unfortunately, I didn't find the solid research results I was looking for. Apparently studies were done and books were read and from that the author came up with a formula that seemed to be the most successful at producing results.

Rather than write the book off as a total loss I decided to follow the formula for 2 weeks. I "canceled" any negative thoughts that arose (and there were many). I didn't worry about how something would "manifest". I would just visualize having it, believe that I'd get it (hard to do) and release (harder to do). The first visualization was that I'd log into my bank account and see that the balance had doubled. Usually the opposite would happen. I couldn't fathom how this would happen, but I pushed that thought out of my head and released it. A few days later I logged into our bank account to do our regular banking. The account balance had doubled. We had gotten a rebate we were due. It was a large one. We had been due this money for a year but we were unsure how to go about claiming it; we were waiting to hear back from our accountant. Somehow our accountant did it without getting us involved. Also, my husband started a new job; we were expecting his first check the following month, but they pay 2 weeks in advance. All of this happened within a couple of days of my completing the formula.

My husband's response was, well, this stuff was all going to happen anyway. Again, he's right, but it's not like if this manifestation stuff works money is just going to start falling out of the sky. There has to be a logical way for it to come about. While I didn't run around screaming, "It works! It works!", I couldn't say it didn't work.

Within a couple of days our washing machine broke and we also needed to buy a new refrigerator. I found the ones I wanted and ordered them. I was told it would be 1-2 weeks for the washer to be delivered and a month for the refrigerator. It took a day or two before it occurred to me to try to manifest their early arrival. I kind of didn't want to even try because it would be an easy way to be proven wrong. I decided to be a big girl. I ordered the appliances on a Wednesday, I did the "formula" on that Friday. On Monday, I got a message from the delivery guy asking if he could deliver the washer and fridge later that day. They were delivered in 3 business instead of 1-2 weeks and a month!

I told my husband. He said, "I don't believe it, but don't stop doing it."

So, I didn't. I lost my cell phone at the airport. I tracked it using my husband's phone--we watched it leaving the airport. I was bummed that someone had stolen it. I was also bummed because it would be expensive to replace since I had had it less than 2 years. I decided to turn my attitude around. I did the formula and decided that I would be better off for having lost my phone. The next day I got a new/better phone. My contract had been for a year rather than 2 so I was able to get the new phone at a discount. The cell phone provider had introduced a new calling plan that would save me $20 a month. I was $12 better off per month. Not a big deal, but far better than what I initially expected. Then, when I got home.. I had an email (don't ask me how) from a man who said his grandson had picked up my phone at the airport. He asked for my address and mailed my old phone. So, I was slightly financially better off and my faith in humanity was restored! ;)

I read another book that suggested picking a bill that you need to pay and try to manifest the money to pay it. Since we had the extra cash come in earlier in the month I had been hoarding away money into our savings account. When I do this I tend to leave us with not enough money in our checking account to cover our expenses. Our savings account is at a different bank so it's a bit of a hassle to transfer the money back. So, I quickly did the formula for $500. I thought that would be enough to get us through the month. I honestly didn't think I did the formula effectively enough.. Two days later we went to a party for the Melbourne Cup (horse races). Long story short, they had multiple betting games and a raffle. My husband and I ended up winning 3 out of 5 of the games totaling $533.

I cannot state emphatically enough how up until I logged into the bank account and saw the doubled balance--all things financial felt like a kick in the gut (for the last several years). Always negative, never positive. It's been 2 months since that happened. With all that, I have to say I'm still skeptical--I was raised to be logical and clearly that stuck! But, I will continue to follow the "formula" as authentically as I can to see where it takes me. Maybe I'll convince my husband to give it a go as well. I've joked with him that he should use his "powers" for good, not an evil Cadillac.

Anyway, that's what happened to me! Would love to know if anyone has had anything similar happen.

This in an excellent book, the best I have read on the subject of manifesting ones reality. It is not a mushy New Age book, it's based on facts and experiments. But it is not a book for a lazy mind and it requires sincere effort to bring these truths to light in a persons life, but the information is such that you won't be wasting your time or effort, which is not the case with many other books on this topic.

The author's honesty, humility and awareness about how every person is different and that there is no one method that will work for everyone...is refreshing and he gives different methods that basically covers the spectrum of all personalities and that each of us must work out for ourselves, through experimentation, what best fits each individual.

As I was reading chapter eight I became a little confused as I was trying to hold all this information in my mind and I thought, "He needs to put some kind of flow chart with this book to clarify things bit." When I got to the end of the chapter...there it was...the flow chart..."Did I manifest that?" Heehee!

I recommend this book! If as said, "Life is but a dream" then it's far better to have a good one then a nightmare!
