Not one of Sandler's best films, but it isn't horrible by any means. This is mainly drama, but it does have it's side jokes. Having never seen the original film, I can only judge it based on the movie alone and it is good, but not great. Everyone in the movie is really good, but the story wants to drag in scenes. But, there are some moments I thought were really funny. If you are a fan of Adam Sandler, give this a try, but if you are a fan of the original film...there is a good chance that this won't live up to it. Very few remakes ever do.

If you like Adam Sandler then this is more of the same type of funny. The movie could have done without the "queens" that part took funny and just made it gross. Also the inmate that admitted to doing things with other inmates again had no place in the over all movie.

This version is a lot funnier, and a great tribute to the classic 1974 film. I loved that they brought Burt Reynolds back to play former football player Nate Scarborough. Adam Sandler plays Paul Crewe, a disgraced former football who shaved points in a big game. After stealing his girlfriend's car, he is sent to Allenville Penitentiary in Texas. Warden Hazen wants him to put together a football team. Crewe, Caretaker, and Scarborough train some inmates in a game against the crooked guards. I highly recommend THE LONGEST YARD!!!

Hello out there & welcome to this. Now this is a review that's part of my 20 years ago 2005 in film review series this time I'm taking a look at 1 of the better remakes The Longest Yard which I've never seen The Burt Reynolds version from the 70's I can say this a fun film that's good if you need a few laughs & something to make you smile. The movie was hit it was made for $82 million & made $58 million it's opening weekend it then made $158 million in The US with it's full run with money made overseas it made a total of $190 million. The movie was directed by Peter Segal he directed the classic comedy Tommy Boy which reviewed back in March. As well he directed Nutty Professor II, Anger Management, 50 First Dates & Grudge Match which I haven't seen but I have heard it was really awful. The movie stars Adam Sandler as Paul Crewe, Chris Rock as James "Caretaker" Farrell, James Cromwell as Warden Rudolph Hazen, William Fichtner as Captain Brian Knauer, Steve Austin as Officer Dunham, Kevin Nash as Sergeant Engleheart, Burt Reynolds as Nate Scarborough, Bill Goldberg as Joey Battaglio, The Great Khali as Turley, Bob Sapp as Switowski, Joey Diaz as Anthony "Big Tony" Cobianco & Nicholas Turturro as Brucie. The story is a Former NFL star named Paul Crewe there's this party going on & he doesn't want to attend he has real controlling Girlfriend he locks her in the closet & leaves with her Bentley. He's pulled over by The Cops he gives 1 of them a hard time over his big ears he gives the other Cop a beer he was drinking. He then backs the car into a The Cop Car leads them on chase. His Girlfriend is out of the closet she calls Paul he ends up causing all The Cop Cars to crash into his Girlfriends Car.Read more ›

Its definitely not a *5* star movie, but it does deserve four stars because this
movie will never become a cult classic. Adam Sandler does a great job of acting
in this movie as he gathers together the inmates to play football against
the Warden's Guards. While I won't go into specifics as I am sure others have
done, needless to say I *highly* recommend this movie to be seen.

This is a much appreciated addition to inventory of things that make my life as easy as one would like to have it. As a person who depends a lot on external sources for my professional fulfillment, I am very satisfied.

I bought this DVD for my younger brother and considering the fact it was used, it still looks new. My brother could care less about whether it's old or new, all that matters is that the movie can play smoothly. He is joyful now that he has it. I am currently preparing for a night of laughs :)

"The Longest Yard" (2005 Version) is a remake to the original "The Longest Yard" released in 1974 that starred Burt Reynolds. This time around, comedian Adam Sandler replaces Reynolds in this good remake. "The Longest Yard" also stars Chris Rock, Nelly, James Cromwell, William Foryster, & Burt Reynolds making a return & having a significant role in the movie as well. The movie also has a great deal of former NFL players & WWE wrestlers to portray certain roles in the film such as Michael Irvin, Bob Sapp, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, & Bill Goldberg among others.

The movie starts out with Paul Crewe (Sandler), a former NFL MVP pro quarterback star suspended indefinitely due to shaving points off a football game, goes on a huge wrecking spree as he (while intoxicated) crashes his girlfriend's car while on a big police chase from the cops. This little wrecking spree would indeed send Crewe to Allenville Prison.

While in prison, Warden Hazan (James Cromwell) asks Crewe to be the quarterback for his semi-pro guards football team to win back the championship. Crewe rejects the offer at first & would be given a hard time from the warden until Crewe agrees to do anything that the warden wants. After spending a week in the hot box, the warden gives Crewe another chance to be the quarterback for the guards, however, Crewe comes up with an idea for the guards to have a warm-up game against the inmates before the season starts with Crewe being the quarterback for the inmates. Crewe then gets Caretaker (Rock) & Nate Scarborough (Reynolds) to help him recruit the meanest, ruthless, & biggest inmates for his team.
