I was on the fence on whether to upgrade my existing 180 SSD to this. I figure I'd give it a try.

Thumbs up on Crucial / Amazon sending me a unit that already had the latest firmware that was only released 7 days ago. This saved me a critical step that might not of gone so well in my setup. I apparently had challenges getting my usb dvd drive to "boot". Long story short, There really wasn't any documentation that came with the drive. Based on other reviewers I went to crucial's website fully planning to have to upgrade the firmware first.

I saw they posted a video on how to use the included transfer software. I was hoping to be able to use the software with a usb 3 cable adapter, but the software looks for the included usb 2 adapter. My system would not recognize the transfer software as a bootable media, not sure if it was the disk or the drive. I tried changing the bios boot priorities without success.
Crucial's video recommended you boot from the DVD not run it thru windows 7.

Well I took a chance after multiple failed attempts at using the cd as a boot media and ran the software via my windows 7 session. Worked like a charm, no issues, took about 45 minutes once the process was started. I had about 45 GB free space out of 180 GB.

I'm use to having to re-activate software licenses even after a cloning process. So far I haven't had to re-activate a single license. This includes: MS Office 2013, Lightroom 4, Viso 2013, Project 2013, Proshow Producer Pro 5, Snagit 11, Camtasia 8, Omnipage 18 Pro, PDF Converter 8 and a whole bunch more.

Only time will tell how reliable this drive is, but the install process once started was a breeze. Wish it had a USB 3 transfer cable, but even with a USB 2, took less than 1 hour. Some said there's a USB 3 kit, but this one didn't have that as an option. Note I was transfering from an existing SSD to another SSD. Just needed a larger SSD.

Works like a charm

I used this on my Toshiba laptop. Popped the cd in first and it immediately looked for an external drive. Wasn't found because I hadn't plugged the SSD in yet :) Once I connected it via usb, I tried again and it was extremely easy. It asked me to verify the destination drive (SSD) and to verify the source (disk drive currently installed). It does warn the the destination drive will be erased but mine was brand new so it didnt' matter. I clicked "start" and it took about 30 minutes because the only thing that I had on the laptop was a fresh install of windows 7 and SWTOR. I did a factory restore on my laptop prior just to get rid of all of the junk that I have accumilated over the years. Yes I will have to reinstall Office and do updates for everything, but it was less to transfer over. The transfer was flawless. My boot up time significantly decreased. It boots up in maybe 7 or 8 seconds. My laptop never took long anyway because it was always in sleep mode, but from being totally off and booting up, it is fast! My windows experience index for the read/ write disk changed from 5.9 to 7.6. Good enough for me. It is only day 1 but at this point, I would def. recommend!

Stable, Silent, Zippy

Although the drive that I received came with an out of date firmware, this is easily correctable on modern OSs (and a tad bit more work if you are using Windows XP like I am). Aside from that the drive has been stable, perfectly silent (as expected since there are no longer any moving parts there), and has given a 5-year-old laptop a new lease on life. Whereas I was previously looking to buy a new laptop, this has reinvigorated the system and given it more time in service. And I now have more drive space as the previous drive was dinky. Battery life has been improved thanks to the Crucial drive running cool and not having moving parts; so the system as a whole runs cooler than it has ever before. The fan used to constantly wail and was annoying, now it rarely comes on. Swapping out the old hard disk drive for this SSD has improved things in ways I would not have suspected.

Excellent Investment; greatly improved my disk access time

Bought this ssd drive last week with the cloning software. Software cloned hard drive without mishap including the recovery partition. Did not need to boot from CD, was able to clone the HD right from the desktop. Installed drive without problems on Lenovo T420s; excellent videos showing how to on Utube. New drive is super fast, able to access programs much faster than old HD even though it was 7200 rpm. Boot time is also faster. Found no compatibility issues, all programs opened without a hitch. Totally happy with the entire process. Updated firmware without issue.

Lightening fast... but bigger would be better

Other reviews hit on the technical aspects of this product. It truly is as good as others have said. Easiest install of a new mass storage drive I've experienced. My HDD was cloned to this SSD easily in about 6 hours and posted up on the first try.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest getting the 512 Gig version as the 256 fills up quickly. I took a lot of archival data off and stored it on our portable HDD, so we have some life left for additional software or a second OS.

Data transfer kit is a MUST

if you are not a computer mucho savvy person, use the DTK with this SSD. plug the cable in, follow the relatively easy instructions and it's done. Unplug your old HD, insert the SSD and off you go. It is very importing when using the DTK that you boot straight from the HD or it won't work. To do so you need to enter the Bios with F11 or F2 not sure which but the right one will appear when you start the computer. Change to the HD as the boot drive and it will work. The instructions do not explain how to do ths.
