About the Author

When Dawn left school with a Grade A English Language 'O' level, little did she imagine that many years later she would use that literary creativity and become and author.

Her writing career began in 2010 with Forgotten Wings, a guide to personal and spiritual awakening that was accepted and published by O-Books, a subsidiary of John Hunt Publishing Ltd. Dawn's passion for writing had been rekindled.

Dawn has a long-held deep fascination for ancient mysteries, coupled with a strong conviction that there is much more to the long-ago history of the world than we allow ourselves to believe. She is powerfully drawn to the mystery and atmosphere of ancient sites and unexplained monuments and artefacts. So when she was introduced to the world of the crystal skulls in Summer 2011, it led rapidly to the inspiration for The Skull Chronicles series. Book I, Lost Legacy, was published in April 2012 and Book II, the Red Skull of Aldebaran, just over a year later.

Dawn lives in the beautiful county of Wiltshire, surrounded by its mysterious ancient landscape and stone monuments, which are an important source of inspiration for her writing. She has a grounded, earthy spirituality which is based as much in the appreciation and enjoyment of our physical existence as in the unseen world around and within us.

DKH has 2 alter egos. The first, Dawn K. Henderson, is the author of 'Heel Lead', a feel good short novel of love, friendship and second chances in a provincial ballroom dance class.

The second, Dawn Henderson, wears her non-fiction hat as the author of 'Forgotten Wings: a guidebook to spiritual growth and personal transformation' and 'Starspeak' and Starspeak 2' two short volumes of channelled messages from our star brothers and sisters and the crystal skulls.

A different approach to telling a fantasy story

Normally, I do not read fantasy. After all once you have read all of J. R. Tolkien, what could ever measure up to his standard? However, when I received a request to review this book, I was intrigued.

The fantasy part of the story is straight forward. Thirteen skulls brought to Earth by aliens to be used by us to gain the knowledge they have acquired. The skulls were brought years ago and as mankind becomes aware of the power they hold, there are some who try to steal them for their own purposes. Eventually the skulls are scattered and hidden in various parts of the Earth as the story reaches modern day.

Here is where the approach is different, at least in my experience. As Henderson tells the history of the skulls, she mixes in the modern day story of Gemma Mason who begins having dreams about the skulls. Gemma eventually decides to write a book about her dreams. This switching from the fantasy story to what is happening with Gemma kept me reading.

The writing is above average, and the philosophy that Henderson imparts is not only worth reading, but worth a pause for reflection. The novel suffers from more telling than showing but moves at a good pace.

This was a hard book to rate for me. I give it three stars as a fantasy novel, but the writing style deserves four. But since this is for fantasy fans, three it is.

I read this book not only because I am drawn to stories about crystal skulls but also for literary reasons because I have written a novel about a crystal skull. I am familiar with the Atlantean and Lemurian legends so I can appreciate the impressive research and creativity this author has achieved. I found the book to be wonderfully reminiscent of old-fashioned story-telling. Snuggle up! The protagonist, Gemma, is a sweetheart, an endearing character who carries the modern-day plot on her adventure of self-discovery, self-help, and personal growth. Lost Legacy revolves around two crystal skulls, their secrets, powers, and destiny. The dark pursuers who want to misuse the skulls vs. the enlightened ones who want to protect the skulls. If I were an avid fantasy reader, I would probably love this story; I am more a mystery/ghost story reader and writer. No doubt, crystal skull aficionados and visionary fiction readers will find this a compelling read. And if you are a quartz crystal fan, practice energy healing, or part of the free-flowing spiritual movement in the new age, you won't want to miss this mythic adventure.

I love the mythology behind the crystal skulls and this is a fresh take on that legend. As a protagonist, Gemma is a strong character that was easy to identify with. More so, the plot itself was very engaging and full of adventure and intrigue. Overall, definitely recommend for any speculative or sci-fi fan!

I read this book in one weekend.
That is a miracle for me! It was so profound for me.
I was deeply touched on so many levels because of my own personal life experience.
It was no accident I was to find this book.
I have a deeper appreciation for our ancestors, and the guardians of the skulls.

I did not understand the skulls deeper meaning until I read the book.
I have enjoyed skulls my entire life, and 'now' I know why.
It is a fantastic read! I cannot wait for the sequel!
I am so grateful Dawn took the amazing leap to write it.
She is an amazing writer.

It is so well written, it gripped me for two straight days reading, and it was so much fun!
Lots of laugh out loud moments.
And now I enjoy the permanent imprint of special knowledge that lasts the rest of my life from having read it.
I also enjoyed her other books, Starspeak and Forgotten Wings.

A year ago, I had a friend drop a rock in my hand from when she had been deep inside a cave.
It was the most obscure and strange gift, and only made sense after reading Skull Chronicles.
Very special INDEED.

I also went out to buy my own crystal skull after reading the book.
When I got home with my prize possession, I realized there was a rainbow heart shape inside the skull.
A magical experience to say the least.

This is book one of a really great series - I found I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this story about crystal skulls and the wisdom they bring to the earth. But the coming of the light is not always welcome and unenlightened humanity looking for power and personal gain want the skulls for themselves! This is a fast paced story that somehow taps into the numinous realms and you know that there are great truths behind what is a fictional account. This is a great way of learning the wisdom of the ancients. The whole series is highly recommended and I have just heard that book 5 is underway.

I found this book absolutely BRILLIANT and just couldn't put it down for days (it only took me days because I MADE myself read it slowly to take in and savour all the detail rather than rushing it). The story alternates between "Gemma", the "heroine" in present time and then - through her dreams channelled by the crystal skulls - her relating the story of the various skulls in ancient times before they were carefully hidden in secret locations to wait until humankind was ready to use (rather than abuse)their powers for the good of humankind. At the beginning, during the first few pages, I was a bit slow to get "into" it and wasn't sure I liked Gemma that much - I thought she was a bit 'wet' and dull, but I soon realised that she was meant to be and that is part of the book - how she changes her life dramatically with the input of the Crystal Skulls and becomes a completely different person by "freeing herself" of all her self-imposed ideas of who she should be and who she isn't (but wants to be). I especially LOVED the parts which were in ancient times when humans were given the crystal skulls by visiting extra-terrestrials, their effect on the people and eventually how the time came when they had to be hidden for centuries until we were ready to use their knowledge wisely again. It all tied into a gripping (and I believe credible) story based on the ancient Legends of the Crystal Skulls, which has always fascinated me. My only increasing reservation as the book progressed was that I was running out of pages and surely, SURELY the author wasn't simply going to "tail off" with a crammed, summarised, poor ending - there was still SO MUCH to be revealed and that would be SOoooooo disappointing!! My feeling of unease increased as the pages flashed by and I started to slow down, not wanting it to end and most of all not wanting to be disappointed... Then I got to the last page and with disbelief, found that it simply DIDN'T end at all - it just cut off part way through the story!!! I was frantic to find out if there was a sequel as I HAD to know what happened after that and surely the author didn't just 'get bored' and decide to stop writing after all that effort to create such a detailed and incredible story...? This happened to me very recently reading another BRILLIANT novel by Graham Hancock, "Entangled" (his first fictional book) which although a completely different story and topic, I would say falls into the same genre: his novel also has a current day young woman "accidentally" connecting with beings and evil powers from 25,000 years ago and also the spiritual realm). As I gobbled up "Entangled", I realised he was 'running out of space' to finish the incredible story - and sure enough, on the last page it just "STOPPED" dead, mid story - I was devastated! I had to contact Graham Hancock to find out if there is to be a sequel (there is, but not to be released until 2014). Now the same had happened again with this equally BRILLIANT novel by D K Henderson and I was chewing my fingers off to find out if there was to be a sequel and if so WHEN??? Fortunately, I have found out that it is part of a trilogy and the next book (The Red Skull of Aldebaran) is due to be published in the next couple of months and will soon be available on Amazon. It was fortunate that I bought "Lost Legacy" quite a long time ago and then (incredibly) forgot I had it in my huge pile of new books, so I am quite pleased that as a result, I now don't have so long to wait before reading the next part of the story. I CAN'T WAIT!! Until then, I highly recommend "Lost Legacy" as in my top `fave' list of novels I've ever read.

Lost Legacy is the first book in the Skull Chronicles. I decided to read this first book following a chance encounter with a like minded soul - though there are no coincidences!
The introduction resonated deeply with me, the writing is beautiful, clear and thought provoking.
The story is compelling and takes the reader on a journey through different cultures and ages.
The general history of the crystal skulls demands an open mind, however D.K. Henderson treats the subject matter with great sensitivity and integrity. The books are plausible and leave the reader questioning the real Truth behind this wonderful legacy left for humankind - which I suspect is the point.
I cannot recommend this series highly enough, you are in for an amazing journey!
