After being idle for a day, it sometimes stops allowing write access to the drive. I have had this problem with similar (diff brand) USB drive docks in the past. The problem occurs on different computers, all running OSX.

If I power off the using and power it back on, I can write to the drive again. A workaround is to run a script to touch a file about once per minute so the drive is never idle for a long time. I can live with the issue, but it's a pain.

I purchased this dock for a 4TB sata drive (the Voyager S3 is supposed to be compatible with drives up to 4TB) and it only recognizes 465GB of my 4TB drive. If I insert a 1.0TB sata drive it recognizes it properly. I searched the manufacturers web site but was unable to find anything to explain how to remedy the situation. After hours of searching the manufacturers web site I gave up.

I have a stack of about 15 SATA drives laying about, and this makes it easy to use them. I had the older model of this drive (with the quad interface) that was USB 2.0 / Firewire 400 or 800 / eSata. This is similar but a lot faster. I run it on a Mac Mini 2012.

Just drop in a bare drive, turn it on, and it works. No drivers required.

Who would have thought we could have 4 TB floppy drives? That's what you get with this and a 4 TB bare drive.

My computer crashed with a mega-load of unbacked up data. Hoping that the problem was the motherboard and not the hard drive, I purchased the Voyager SATA Drive Docking Solution and was able to read the drive and retrieve all of my data. Have sence reformated the hard drive from the crashed computer and now use the docking station with that SATA Drive as a "back-up" unit which backs up my new computer every night. I am very pleased with the preformance, speed of transfer and ease of use.

1, Reason why I chose :
Since my old Voyager from years ago didn't support 4TB drive, I needed the dock which supports larger drive. I contact OWC support and made sure this dock supported for large capacity drive.

2, like & dislike :
It works just fine as it should be.

3, Recommend this product to :
If you're looking for a quality, and durability, this could be the one.

4, Price :
Compare to other alternatives, and it's a simple USB connector model, price of this dock could be cheaper than it is. I would say around $25 is fair.

Wanted badly to see this work as it's a great accessory for handling multiple hard drives. The particular unit I received failed to read or write to multiple hard drives of multiple sizes, and, it was tried with USB 3.0 connections on multiple computers! Bummer! I really wanted to put this to work! Alas, Amazon's great return policy was used and it is no more. I'll keep looking for a USB 3.0 drive reader/writer.

This is the USB 3 / UDSB 2 version of the Voyager. I have the nicer version of this at work (which also supports Firewire 400 & 800 plus eSata) and which costs $50 more. If I'd had the cash available I would have gone with the nicer version. In addition to the expanded connection support, that one has the power button on the top.

While I have a pair of RAIDs at work (one being for hourly backup) I use the Voyager for an additional set of backups - alternating archival backups of my creative services workstation, swapping between a pair of bare 4 TB drive backups every week, with one being stored in a bank vault. The system works well and the Voyager has held up very well.

When not running, I store the drives in a pair of padded hard drive cases from Oric, which do a good job and are reasonably priced. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008JA2HNG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2)

Perfect...fits both large hard drives and smaller laptop and SSD's. it's a great solution for people with lots of these drives and no cases because it's a quick release and works well for me on the go. solid construction, and even has a power button on the back so if a drive is left in it, it doesn't have to spin up automatically.
