Whovian Monopoly

This is an awesome game. I bought it for my daughter's Christmas present but it was really a present for the whole family. We all played it on New Years eve and had an awesome time. It's the same as regular Monoply except it is Dr Who themed. The properties are Episodes. The Railroads are now Tardises. The tokens you use to play with are cool but I wish there was a dalek or cyberman in there. I guess maybe because it's the 50th anniversary edition they wanted to include things from older Drs like the umbrella and celery. We played for a really long time and my kids never got bored. That's a lot to say when your kids are used to Xbox and PlayStation fast moving games. It was nice to sit and play a game we could all enjoy! My only criticism is that the pieces were very small and it was hard to tell which pieces were which on the board. I kept grabbing the celery instead of the sonic. This was my daughter's favorite Christmas present (or one of them) and a great past time for my family. This product was a personal purchase for myself at the normal retail price. I am reviewing it because I want to share my experience with other potential customers.

Each landing spot represents an Episode of Doctor Who, a location from the show, or a TARDIS design (1st, 5th, 10th, 11th). It's a lot of fun seeing those classic episodes. The cards have scenarios from both new and classic Who episodes. It's fun trying to figure out when each card corresponds too. I thought I was a huge fan and some of them still make me scratch my head.

My one gripe is the gaming pieces. Three of them are flat, so their hard to see on the board. It's easy to forget where you are. The three standing pieces (Sonic, Celery and Umbrella) are a little wobbly and cheaply built. You may want to use pieces from the old board or make your own.

I purchased this for my niece's 9th birthday present. She is presently obsessed with Doctor Who (namely the 10th & 11th Doctors). She was very excited to receive this, as it combined two of her favorite things: Doctor Who and Monopoly.
The game pieces held up well with normal play...we played for a total of about 3 hours. I feel as if they will hold up for more play, as long as we don't slam them down.
Each "property" in this version is an episode of Doctor Who. The only thing we had trouble with was seeing how much the properties cost, as it is typed in a gray box which was just hard to read. After all the properties were purchased this was no longer a problem, of course.
I'd say this is a great gift for a Doctor Who fan. I've watched some Doctor Who, so it was fairly interesting to me but my brother isn't into Doctor Who and still enjoyed it. If you enjoy Monopoly, you will generally enjoy this version if you don't mind that the property names are changed and the Chance and Community Chest are different.

My niece was almost banished from the game from the crazy sound effects she made and the one too many, "EXTERMINATES!" she yelled when we landed on her properties, but really that has nothing to do with the actual game itself and rather with my crazy but lovely niece! Enjoy!

We are happy to find the monopoly with a Doctor Who edition. It was a fun game to play and nice to read all the new names on the properties. We did find one of the player pieces broken and it is hard to move around the flat pieces. We were not happy about how the money in the bank was set up. The money did not stay in the tray the game came with. Thank you AskAboutAvon.com

I got this as a gift for one of my friends because they love Doctor Who. They were very happy with the game because they were able to recognize everything and they loved all the spaces on the board and all the cards and how everything was set up. I, personally, don't like how there are still some spaces that they didn't convert into Doctor Who theme (like Go and Jail, etc.). Other than that it's not a bad set. The pieces in mine were metal (I noticed some peoples' were plastic?) so that was nice. Though some of the pieces were just flat while others had stands. It would've been nice for them all to have stands. Nice game overall, I just wished they paid more attention to the finer details; they were so close.

I was an avid fan of Dr. Who during the late 70's early 80's. I was surprised to find that my granddaughter whose 17 is an avid fan of the most recent series. I was so excited then to find Monopoly (which I have loved playing now for over 50 years) in the Dr. Who version, that I ordered it for her birthday, along with a Tardis hat (she also loves goofy hats). Now that I have had an opportunity to read the customer reviews, my only hope is that I have not disappointed her and you have not disappointed as well. I, like many others did expect a Tardis game piece and maybe even a Dr. Who game piece, if that was not asking for too much. Bottom line, my happiness will be found in her happiness. She will be receiving it in a few days and I won't disappoint her by discussing the reviews nor ruin the surprise. I will however, upon finding out whether or not she is pleased, offer her something else if this is not satisfactory. Would I have purchased it had I read the reviews prior, YES!

This Monopoly set is pretty much brilliant. Standard game set up with that awesome Doctor Who twist.

Pros:
Its Doctor Who [enough said]
Each side features multiple episodes grouping villains/ enemies together (ie the yellow is all Cybermen episodes)
The UNIT and Gallifreyan cards are clever and make you laugh even when you have to pay for something.

Cons:
I just think it would have been awesome if one of the pieces was a K-9 but the pieces given are great
When playing overall its a little more difficult to find your piece as it tends to blend into the board
Some of the classic Monopoly designs made it into the game board and it throws it off a bit those being the jail, Go, Go to jail and free parking.
